ABSTRACT
The present study is an attempt to have a look across the different segment of people’s
perception of development in the society such as street children, garment workers, rickshaw
pullers, CNG auto rickshaw drivers, domestic workers, day laborer, and students. The study also
explores the reason behind the different views and understandings of development. For the
purpose of the study, slum and two universities were selected.
This study has been organized under three main themes. The first part contains a discussion on
the background of the concept of development followed by a discussion from my findings
regarding how different socio-economic group perceive and describe development using both
qualitative and quantitative data collected from the field. The second part contains data
analysis. In the third and final section, summary and conclusions of the findings will be
discussed.
The key findings of the study are lack of work opportunity, insecurity, uncertainty, unlawful
activity, and insanitation.
