Zeta State recognizes two for achievement in the organization! fromTeriEdwards

Atthe2015ZetaStateConvention,theAwardsCommitteepresentedtwodeservingindividualswiththeZetaStateAchievementAward.Ms.ToniCookisaretiredspecialeducationteacherfromGulfportandamemberofAlphaUpsilon.ShehasbeenamemberofDKGfor27years.Notonlyhasshebeenactiveinherownchapter,buthasmadesignificantcontributionsinmakingZetaStatewhatitistoday.Toniisoneofthosefaithfulchaptermemberswillingtoserveinanycapacityneeded.Shehasservedherchapteraspresidentfortwoterms,aswellasservedasFirstVicePresident,SecondVicePresident,RecordingSecretary,andParliamentarian.ShewasalsorecognizedbyherchapterasaWomanofDistinctionin2005.Atdistrictmeetingsandstateconventions,ToniCookandBetsySullivanyouwillfindToniparticipatingandleadingworkshopscenteredonareasofinterest.Atthestatelevel,shehasservedonvirtuallyeverycommitteeknownandhasheldtheofficesofRecordingSecretary,SecondVicePresident,FirstVicePresidentandWebmaster.ToniCookisoneofthosemembersyoucanalwayscountontostepuptotheplatewhenneededanddosowithasmileonherface.

OursecondZetaStateAchievementAwardwaspresenttoDr.BetsySullivan.SheisamemberofPiChapterandhasbeenamemberofDKGfor25years.Atthechapterlevel,shehasservedonallcommitteesinmultiplecapacities,aswellsas,PresidentandFirstVicePresident.ShewasalsorecognizedbyherchapterasaWomanofDistinction.Beyondthechapterlevel,BetsyhasservedasAssistantDistrictDirectorandonmanycommittees,includingScholarship,Communications,andHistoryofZetaState.ShealsohasreceivedscholarshipsfromPiChapter,ZetaState,andDeltaKappaGammaSocietyInternationalforthepurposeofcontinuedgraduatework.InadditiontohermanycontributionstoDKG,shehasalsoservedinmanyrolesandbeenrecognizedforheraccomplishmentswithinherfield,suchasPresidentofMississippiScienceTeachersAssociation,OutstandingBiologyTeachingAwardfromtheNationalAssociationofBiologyTeachers,andaHighSchoolTeachingAwardgivenbyMSTA,justtonameafew.Shecaneasilybedescribedasagogetterwhohasmadesignificant

contributionsnotonlytoDKGbutalsotothefieldofeducation.Sheistheepitomeofthesevenpurposesofoursociety.Dr.BetsySullivancurrentlyteachesatMadisonCentralHighSchool

DKG: Opportunity, Wisdom, Leadership NancyJay,PresidentTimeflies(especiallyifyoureaDKG:OWL)!ThesepasttwoyearshavebeenawonderfulexperienceformeservingasZetaStatePresident.IhavelearnedmuchaboutourSocietyand,whiletravellingallaroundthestate,IhaveenjoyedthefellowshipandwisdomofLeadingWomenEducatorsImpactingEducationWorldwide.IveheardmanymemberssayourZetaStateConventionwasthebestever!!!Iagree!HootstoourConventionChair,KarenRhodes,andherdevotedconventioncommitteemembers,JanetBergandSylviaGambill.AndwhatablessingitwasthatBeckySadowskiwassenttousastheInternationalRepresentative!Sheblendedwithourmembershipandweabsolutelylovedhavingher,notasaguest,butoneofus!ThereisnotenoughtimeandspaceintheZetaDatatoallowmetosayeverythingIwanttosayandthankeveryonewhopreparedgreateventsforthisconventionandthroughoutthebiennium.

ThereisnowayIcouldhaveaccomplishedanythingandeverythingwithoutthehelp,guidance,andsupportofstateofficers,relatedpersonnel,committeechairmen,chapterpresidentsandmembers.Youknow,Ithink,thereasonforZetaStatessuccessisthatwe,all,workasoneeveryonedoingherjobanddoingitowlsome.ThankyouforgivingmetheopportunitytoserveasZetaStatePresidentforthe20132015biennium.IthasbeenaprivilegerepresentingMississippianditsDKGmembers.Now,aswewelcomeanewpresidentandleadershipteam,Iamhappytostandasideandenjoythevitalityofanew,butverystrong,leadershipteamforthe20152017biennium.ZetaStateis

homelessshelters,libraries,daycaresandHeadstartcenters,aswellasmedicalfacilitiesandclinics.Also,schoolsuppliesandinstructionalresourcesweregiventoearlycareereducatorstoassistthemduringtheirfirstyearofteaching.ItwasevidentthattimewasspentinmanychapterssupportingourSecondInternationalProjectSupportingearlyCareerEducators(SEE)throughoneononementoringvisitstoencourageandsupportthesenewteachers.Theseactivitiesareonlyafewexamplesofthekindsofserviceprojectsthatchapterswereinvolvedwithtoservechildrenandadultstoemphasizethevalueofaneducationandthebenefitsofbecomingproductivecitizensintheircommunities.ManyofthechapterserviceprojectswerehighlightedattheconventiononadisplayboardoutsidetheGrandBallroom.ServiceProjectideascanbefoundontheZetaStatewebsiteathttp://www.zetastatedkg.org.SpecialthanksandappreciationtoourchapterpresidentsandtheirPersonalGrowthandServicesrepresentativefortheirtimeandeffortsmadetoinspire,encourageandinvolvemembersinChapterServiceProjectsduringthisbiennium.
