Warm Temperatures in January Lower Snowpack; Near Normal Runoff Expected
gov.ca - Today, the Water Security Agenc y (WSA) re leased the February forecast for spring runoff. A near normal spring runoff is expected across most of the southern half of Saskatchewan with below normal runoff for areas north of Cold Lake, La Ronge, and
Creighton. “Most of the province was
saturated going into winter freeze up but warm temperatures in the month of January have helped lower t h e s n o w p a c k ,” M i n i s t e r Responsible for the Water Security Agency Scott Moe said. “The Water Security Agency will be monitoring precipitation levels and conducting snow surveys to get a clearer picture of what the runoff outlook will be as we move closer to spring.”

potential to change in the weeks and months ahead. Below normal snowfall and a slower melt rate would result in below normal runoff. Conversely, above normal precipitation going forward and a rapid melt could still result in high runoff and potential flooding.
Extreme rainfall events are very unpredictable as the province experienced in the summer of 2014. As always, excess rainfall in the spring could significantly alter the runoff outlook and create excess moisture in some areas.

A guy goes to a girl’s house for the first time, and she shows him into
the living room. She excuses herself to go to the kitchen to make them a
few drinks, and as he’s standing there alone, he notices a cute little vase
on the mantel. He picks it up, and as he’s looking at
it, she walks back in. He says “What’s this?”
She says, “Oh, my father’s ashes are in there.”
He goes, “Geez...oooh....I...”She says, “Yeah, he’s too lazy to go to
the kitchen to get an ashtray.”

On this day in Literary History - Feb 10, 1957:Laura Ingalls Wilder, chronicler of American frontier life, dies on this day in 1957, Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the best-selling “Little House” series of children’s novels based on her childhood on the American frontier, dies at age 90 in Mansfield, Missouri. Laura Elizabeth Ingalls was born in a log cabin near Pepin, Wisconsin, on February 7, 1867, the second of Charles and Caroline Quiner Ingalls’ four daughters. As a child, she lived with her family in Indian Territory in Kansas, as well as in farming communities in Minnesota and Iowa. In the late 1870s, the Ingalls moved to Dakota Territory, settling in present-day De Smet, South Dakota. Laura Ingalls worked as a school teacher in the area, starting in her teens, and in 1885, married Almanzo Wilder, a local homesteader 10 years her senior. In 1886, the couple had a daughter; their only other child, a son, died shortly after his birth in 1889. In 1894, after several years of drought in South Dakota, the Wilders traveled by covered wagon to Mansfield, Missouri, in the ozarks, where they established a farm. Years later, Laura Ingalls Wilder began contribut-ing essays to local newspapers. In 1932, Wilder, then in her 60s, published her first novel, “Little House in the Big Woods,” an autobiographical account of pioneer life in Wisconsin. The book became a success, and she went on to publish seven more novels based on her experiences growing up on the American frontier in the 1870s and 1880s. These books, includ-ing “Little House on the Prairie” (1935), “on the Banks of Plum Creek” (1937) and “The Long Winter” (1940), chronicled the joys and hardships (including illnesses, crop failures, blizzards, fires and grasshopper plagues) that Wilder and her family experienced. A ninth novel, “The First Four Years,” (1971) was published posthumously, as were several other books based on Wilder’s journals and letters. Wilder’s daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, an author and journalist, is believed to have helped edit her mother’s books, although the exact extent of her collaboration is unknown. The “Little House” books have been translated into dozens of languag-es and continue to be read by legions of fans. The books also inspired a hit TV series, “Little House on the Prairie,” which originally aired from 1974 to 1982 and starred Melissa Gilbert as the plucky Laura and Michael Landon as her father Charles. After Laura Ingalls Wilder died in 1957, her longtime Missouri home, Rocky Ridge Farm, became a museum.

The teacher was warning the class about the dangers of going to in cold weather insuffi-ciently clad. “There was one a boy,” he said, “who was so eager to go out and play with
his sled that he didn’t put a coat or scarf on; he caught a chill, the chill led to pneumonia
and he died!”The teacher paused to allow the moral of
this story to sink in, when a small voice said, “What happened to the sled ….?”
The baThTub TesT For insaniTy During a visit to the local mental institute, John asked the Director during a tour how to determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized. “It’s simple actually,” said the Director. “We fill up a bathtub, then we offer a Teaspoon, a Teacup and a Bucket to the patient. We ask him or her to empty the bathtub.” “ohhhh, I understand. “obvious-ly a normal person would choose the bucket because it’s bigger than the spoon or the teacup.” “No. A normal person would pull the plug and let it drain. Do you want a bed near the window?”
