The Handmaid’s Tale takes place in anappalling future that Margaret Atwood first envisioned in her 1985 novel of the same name. Sparked by a global plague of infertility, an extremist group called the Sons of Jacob overthrow the U.S. government and sent progressive American society back in time into totalitarianism, based on Old Testament principles. In addition to enforcing incredibly strict gender roles, Gilead has introduced an entirely new vocabulary for its citizens to internalize.

PRAISE BE,
The “Sons of Jacob” aka The Commanders took over the US Government to try and “fix” the infertility problem. Their solution is going back to “simpler times” and rid all people of modern day sins.
The Ceremony:Based off the bible verse Genesis 30: 1-3“Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob, ”Give me children, or else I die.”

2020 School of Art & DesignBFA ExhibitionThe West Virginia University School of Art & Design presents its 2020 BFA Exhibition featuring student work in ceramics, photography and intermedia, sculpture, graphic design, painting and drawing.
The abundance of graduating artists is reflective of the strength of enrollment in the School’s programs. “I think it’s a good sign that there are so many art and design majors graduating this year, it shows that more students are taking their practice seriously,” says senior painting major Danielle Rudash. “I feel like I’m finally learning the importance of art made by our generation. We are the ones who have been raised in this contemporary culture and each of us are trying to understand where our purpose lies by developing a visual language. This is reflected in the high degree of diversity in the exhibition.”
Included works are a culmination of coursework and explorations at WVU by graduating BFA majors in studio art from the School of Art & Design. Participation in this exhibition is part of the requirement for their senior studio capstone. Scholarly emphasis in these courses is placed on advanced visual and design research development, peer and professional collaboration and critical thinking.
