BBBSCP plants big seed

New program to be tested

HIGH POINT, NC – The Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont chapter

(BBBSCP) will be taking a big step in the near future that could result in a significant and

positive change. In an effort to advocate education as well as cultivate long-lasting, positive

relationships in the children’s lives; BBBSCP is going to work more closely with Colleges. New

programs and events are going to be launched; and there will be multiple programs that involve

faculty, the general student body and even organizations such as greek chapters and athletic

teams.

“Getting faculty on board is huge, it’s one thing when the students participate, but when the

faculty are there supporting and reinforcing what we’re trying to do goes a long way,” said

Teresa Jackson, Campus Coordinator for BBBSCP. The programs will be test at High Point

University first and if successful, considerations for spreading them to other Colleges in their

jurisdiction will be made. Expect to hear more details around back-to-school time.

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that

inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor

and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful,

monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”). Providing a

system of ongoing evaluation and support, Big Brothers Big Sisters is prove to help families by

improving the odds that Littles will perform better in school and avoid violence and illegal

activities, and have stronger relationships with their parents and others.
