Grand Knights Message:
October was Right to Life Month and on October 5 & 6 the Knights distributed
prayer cards at all Masses to end abortion. On Sunday the 6th Right to Life Chairman Dr.
Nick Gargiulo, Warden Bill Bullwinkel, and DD Jim Albert were on Route 110 with many
other Brother Knights to support Right to Life.
On Sunday October 13th the 4th Degree was held at the Melville Marriott.
Congratulations to Brother Nick Gargiulo for receiving the 4th Degree. The St. Pius X
Council along with Barry Council hosted the Hospitality Room. Thanks to Brothers Ralph
Plaisance, Gene Robinson, Artie Venezia, Anthony Corrente, and Ray Ludwig who worked
so hard to set up and clean up the Hospitality Room.
The weekend of October 26 & 27 we had our Recruitment Blitz at all the masses.
Thank-You to all Brothers who distributed Brochures and helped out on this weekend.
Special Thanks to our DD Jim Albert for designing and printing our brochures.
The C&B Raffle Books must be turned in by November 20th. The response was
overwhelming this year, we sold over 350 books. This feat could not have been
accomplished without the support of all Brothers, Widows, and Friends. Your hard work
made this event one of our most successful Fundraisers of the year. THANK-YOU!
We are taking orders to produce Council Jackets, Shirts and Hats for Knights of
Columbus Members. The Jackets are $49.50 but we need to place an order for 12 or more
jackets to receive that price. Shirts will cost 30.00 and Hats 17.00 and they will be printed
like the previous order. These items are great to wear at Meetings, Knights functions,
Church or just shopping around town. This is the first order we have placed in almost 4
years, please call me at 516-280-0033 or email me at [email protected] if you would like
to place an order.
Upcoming events November 3 at the 8:30AM Mass is for deceased members of
our Council. We ask all Brothers to attend and wear your Council Jackets that day. Please
sit with your fellow brothers on the right hand side of the church near the organist. There
will be a repast after mass in Madonna Hall. Next Month December 8th, the “James J.
Maune Memorial Gourmet Pancake Breakfast with Santa” will take place. Tell your
friends and bring the entire family! Also, we are taking reservations for the best
Christmas party in the K of C. It is scheduled for Dec. 14th RSVP your dinner choice
Our Pastor Father Valentine is being installed on November 10th at the 12:30PM
Mass. We ask all Brothers to attend this mass and show support for our Pastor and
Parish. Please wear your Council jackets at this Mass
Fran and I would like to wish all Members and their Families a Happy Thanksgiving.
Fraternally, Grand Knight Neil DeRosa

Father Michael J. McGivney’s story as told in the “Parish Priest”by Douglas Brinkley and Julie M. Fenster. (Condensed with
contributions by the Editor) Part -28 in a series .Last in a Series Fr. McGivney succumbs to Illness and dies!
In 1889 Father Michael McGivney turned 37 years old and his strength began to wane. That peculiar malady, thatcertain strain of exhaustion that caught up to every priest in the nineteenth century, finally had the better of MichaelMcGivney. It left him vulnerable to any illness circulating among the people he served in Thomaston. That year he wasoften sick with a cold, but he kept to his duties at St. Thomas’s and the church in Terryville, even overseeing one hispopular church fairs in the last week in November. In December Father McGivney contracted Influenza. In January 1890it resulted in pneumonia. While McGivney was confined to his bed, the flu epidemic was spreading throughout thecountry. He eventually recovered from his bout with the flu but he was left with a weakness he could not overcome.Father McGivney had permanent damage to his system. In July of 1890 he was confined to bed. He was concerned forhis Parish Family and inquired daily about the Church. Father McGivney died on the Morning of August 14th 1890. It wastwo days after his 38th Birthday. At the time of his death the K of C had 6,000 members. Today the Knight of Columbus
number 1-million, eight hundred thousand strong. Fraternally D.D. Jim Albert

Brothers All,Our Worthy GK sustained an injury (Broken Ankle) and still
spoke at all the Masses the last week in October. He hobbled up tothe podium for each Mass with a cast on his left ankle and deliveredsome well-chosen words to reach out the good Catholic gentlemen ofSt. Pius X Church. The State Council is asking each Council to bringinto the order one new member every month from each Council. Neilis a real Trooper!
It was also my pleasure and honor to assist the NassauChapter in presenting our GK Neil DeRosa with a certificate for“Grand Knight of the Month”. Nassau Chapter President StephenDriscoll will be honoring Grand Knights from each District throughoutthe year!

What sets the Knights of Columbus apart from other organizations?
Not only is it the largest Catholic fraternal service organization in the
world, we’re dedicated to providing charitable services, promoting
Catholic education and actively defending Catholicism. It is also
a mutual insurance company.
What is a mutual insurance company? The company is
owned by its policyholders rather than stockholders who own a stock
company.
Who are the policyholders? You and your family members
who purchase an insurance policy from the Knights to protect against
risks (such as death, disability, illness, future income). Company
profits are paid to policyholders in the form of “dividends”. Surplus
amounts are paid out to policyholders as a return of premium or dividend. Although not
guaranteed, the Knights of Columbus has issued dividends each and
every year since dividends began just prior to World War II.
For 130 years the K of C has provided for the financial security of its members and their families.
No insurance company in North America is more highly rated than the Knights of Columbus. It has
held an A++ rating by A.M. Best Co. for 36 consecutive years and is listed among the Fortune
1000.
