INSIDE THIS ISSUE
Nina Jain Hello everyone,
Exam season is here, and I am sure that you all are busy studying for your exams. Exams are just as important
for the teachers and school, as it is for the students. I certainly hope all of you did well. Wish you all the very
best for the exams, and then for the result.
The academic year is coming to an end, and only has one month left. We are now planning our activities for
the upcoming session. Although we have finalized most of the information and details, some still need to be
completed. We shall be all ready when the school session begins in April, and shall also publish all the dates,
competitions, information etc in next month’s edition of World Informo.
We have pleased that the Specially-Abled Children’s National Science Painting Competition has now
concluded. The results were released to the schools on February 15, 2020, and are also on pages 6-15. It
was absolutely amazing to see the various paintings from the students. The creativity was truly exceptional!
We are in the process of getting the certificates and medals ready, and shall send them to the schools in the
coming days. I do want to wish all the students the very best for participating, and the winners a big
congratulations.
March has a very important day coming up, Women’s Day on March 8th. It is important to take a moment and
recognise women’s achievements on this day. And, we need to recognise the achievement of every woman—
be it our mother, sister, friend, teacher, principal, neighbour or anyone else. We have a great deal to be
proud of as women, so let’s collectively celebrate this day!
And we have an important festival that is coming up this month—Holi. This beautiful festival of colours is on
March 10th. Here’s wishing to all those who celebrate, a colourful and vibrant holi!!!
Regards,
Nina Jain

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on the 8th of March every year. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights. After the Socialist Party of America organized a Women's Day in New York City on February 28, 1909, German revolutionary, Clara Zetkin, proposed at the 1910 International Socialist Woman's Conference that 8 March be honored as a day annually in memory of working women. The day has been celebrated as International Women's Day or International Working Women's Day ever since.
In 1914 International Women's Day was held on March 8 in Germany, possibly because that day was a Sunday. However, it is now always held on March 8 in all countries. The 1914 observance of the Day in Germany was dedicated to women's right to vote, which German women did not win until 1918.
The theme for International Women’s Day (8 March) 2020 is, I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights. The theme is aligned with UN Women’s new multigenerational campaign, Generation Equality, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Adopted in 1995 at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, the Beijing Platform for Action is recognized as the most progressive roadmap for the empowerment of women and girls, everywhere.

WORLD WATER DAY
International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.
Why a World Water Day?
World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, to be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. Each year, UN-Water — the entity that coordinates the UN’s work on water and sanitation — sets a theme for World Water Day corresponding to a current or future challenge.

Forests cover one third of the Earth's land mass, performing vital functions around the world. Around 1.6 billion people - including more than 2,000 indigenous cultures - depend on forests for their livelihoods, medicines, fuel, food and shelter.
Forests are the most biologically-diverse ecosystems on land, home to more than 80% of the terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects. Yet, despite all of these priceless ecological, economic, social and health benefits, global deforestation continues at an alarming rate - 13 million hectares of forest are destroyed annually. Deforestation accounts for 12 to 20 percent of the global greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.
The International Day of Forests is held annually on 21 March to raise awareness of the importance of forests to people and their vital role in poverty eradication, environmental sustainability and food security. Sustainable management of all types of forests are at the heart of unlocking challenges of conflict-affected, developing and developed countries, for the benefit of current and future generations.
International Day of Forests Resolution
The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/67/200 on 21 December 2012, which declared that 21 March of each year is to be observed as the International Day of Forests. The resolution encourages all Member States to organize activities relating to all types of forests. Activities expected to take place on the International Day include tree-planting and other community-level events, and national celebrations including art, photo and film as well as social media outreach. The resolution requests the Secretariat of the United Nations Forum on Forests, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, to facilitate the implementation of the International Day of Forests, in collaboration with Governments, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and international, regional and sub-regional organizations and processes as well as relevant major groups.

United Schools Organisation of India (USO), is one of the oldest non-governmental organisations in India. We have, since 1951, been involved in enhancing basic educational standard among schools in India, through the empowerment of students and educators. It is our mandate to advance the social, cultural, and moral standards of school teachers and students across India to global standards. Since teachers build the foundation of every student during their formative years at school, we believe that it is just as important to increase awareness in teachers as it is in students. Keeping this is mind, we organise various activities for students and teachers that enable them to extend themselves beyond the prescribed curricula. This helps them differentiate themselves as progressive all-rounders in this globally competitive environment.
USO conducts extra-curricular tests for students nationally such as UN Information Test, General
Knowledge Test, InfoTech Quiz; holds extra-curricular seminars for teachers to develop their
existing knowledge; and organizes Principal’s Meet. We liaise with government institutions such as Department of Atomic Energy (seminar on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy), NISCAIR (celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development) to name a few. Our flagship event, General Conference & All India Schools Festival, held every two years, helps promote National Integration by bringing students and teachers all-over India for a 4-day Conference and Festival. Additionally, USO organizes several campaigns throughout the year such as the Yoga Campaign, Summer Reading Campaign, to bring schools nationally together thus forming a community of schools nationally.
