Dear supporter,
2011 was an incredible year for
our Council, thanks to you!
We invested in our International
Visitors Program and saw great
dividends– not only were we able
bring more than $400,000 into the
state as a result of the program,
but more importantly, we hosted
30% more visitors in the state in
2011 than 2010, fostering cultural
connections that will last a life-
time and expanding our state’s
global competency.
We also offered new opportunities
for local students and teachers,
including the presentation of a
statewide Model UN Conference
that provided a forum for stu-
dents to address global concerns
in a real-world context.
And, despite the challenging eco-
nomic times, we were also able to
grow our income by 75% in 2011.
We received several new grants
that helped us begin creating a
three-year strategic plan for the
Council and spark discussion
around the most pressing global
issues of our time with our Head-
line Speaker Series. We hope you
enjoy reading more about the
year’s highlights inside our An-
nual Report.
Thank you for your continued
support and we look forward to
bringing the world to you again
this year!
With appreciation,
Anna H. Berry,
Executive Director
WACNH is a non-profit organization
with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
Executive Director Anna Berry with Ann
Stock, Assistant Secretary of State for Edu-
cational and Cultural Affairs, at the Na-
tional Council for International Visitors
Conference in February 2011.
About the World Affairs
Council of New Hampshire
Our mission: “To promote the widest pos-
sible understanding of world affairs among
the citizens of New Hampshire”
The World Affairs Council of New Hamp-
shire is the state’s only non-profit, non-
partisan organization fostering learning,
discussion and citizen involvement in
world affairs by providing programs for the
public, hosting international visitors and
enriching global education in our schools.
Founded in 1954, the Council is also the
only Granite State member of the World
Affairs Councils of America and the Na-
tional Council for International Visitors.
The Council is an independent, non-profit,
educational organization located on the
campus of Southern New Hampshire Uni-
versity, our mission partner. This publica-
tion is funded, in part, by the Bureau of
Education and Cultural Affairs of the U.S.
Department of State under the authority of
the Fulbright-Hays act of 1961, as
amended.
A letter from the Director
Hundreds of people around the state deepened
their understanding of world affairs and discussed
pressing global issues at 25 public programs

tional issues at weekly world affairs seminars and
the spring 2011 Plymouth Model UN conference
2 teachers traveled to Turkey and then developed
curriculum and public programs on the country and
region’s culture and history
2 special events sparked discussion on the future of
power with Joseph Nye and global business with
Myron Kandel
230 people from across NH supported the Council’s
work in global education as members
