Brenda J. Allen (Ph.D., Howard University) is an inspirational andempowering leader in the field of intersectionalities. She is Vice Chancellorfor Diversity and Inclusion and a Professor of Communication at theUniversity of Colorado Denver|Anschutz Medical Campus. Her scholarshipfocuses on organizational communication, diversity, and power dynamics.Among her numerous publications is a groundbreaking book entitledDifference Matters: Communicating Social Identity (2011, Waveland Press),which explores relationships between communication and gender, race,sexuality, age, ability, and social class. She conducts presentations andworkshops on topics such as unconscious bias, inclusive workplaces,empowHERment, and culturally responsive teaching. She has receivedmany awards and accolades, including the Elizabeth D. Gee Award from theUniversity of Colorado System for efforts to advance women in academia,interdisciplinary scholarly contributions and distinguished teaching, andthe Francine Merritt Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Lives ofWomen in Communication from the National Communication Association.
