This Hydraulic Fracturing Code of Conduct is a set of commitments being made by companies participating in the Working Energy Commitment, describing how this sector of our industry operates as key players in the responsible and sustainable development of Canada’s oil and natural gas resources.

Participatingcompaniesstrivetodeliverthebestvaluetoourstakeholders,includingtheresourceowner,directcustomers,ourshareholdersandemployees,andtheresidentsandlocalcommunitiesinwhichwework.Ourcollectivegoalistoensureoperationalexcellence,focusingonreducingourenvironmentalimpactandmaximizingthedevelopmentofCanada’svastresources,whiledeliveringlong-termsocialbenefitsinamannerthatsupportstheinterestsofallstakeholders.

As endorsers to this Code of Conduct, we will focus our efforts in five key areas.

WATER AND THE ENVIRONMENTWe will…• Developtechnologiesforreducedwaterconsumptioninouroperationsthatmakeusablealternativestofreshwater,withacontinuedfocusonreducing,

recyclingandtherecoveryofwater.• MaximizetheprotectionofallwatersourcesbysupportingourcustomersintheircommitmenttotheCanadianAssociationofPetroleumProducer’s(CAPP)

HydraulicFracturingGuidingPrinciplesandOperatingPractices,includingthoserelatedtowatersourcing,haulinganddisposal,aswellaswellboreintegrityfortheprotectionofgroundwater.

• Continuetodevelopacultureofenvironmentalstewardshipamongstourworkers.

FRACTURING FLUID DISCLOSUREWe will…• Provideourcustomerswithalistofadditivesusedinfracturingfluidsthatmeetsallindustryrequirements,andencouragetheuseofpublicdisclosure

mechanismssuchasFracFocus,intheinterestoftransparency.• Provideourcustomerswithalternativeenvironmentallyfriendlyfluidadditiveoptions,understandingthatthescaleofworkandformationtypeareimportant

determinantstoensuringthesafeandefficientfracturingofawell.

HEALTH, SAFETY & TRAININGWe will…• Continuetomakesafetyforourworkersandthepublicacornerstoneofallouroperations,andstrivetoachieveazero-incidentsperformancerecordthrough

proactiveandstructuredapproaches.• Meetorexceedsafetyrequirements,andmaintaincredentialsthroughregularandvigorousinternalandthird-partyauditsofoursafetypractices.• Committocontinuousimprovementanddevelopmentofbestpracticesinhealthandsafety• Provideongoingandspecializedtrainingtoourworkforceinbothoperationsandhealthandsafety.• Continuetoenhanceoursafetymanagementpracticesonanorganization-widebasis,whichsupportsasafetyculturethatpermeatesourentireorganization

top-downandbottom-up.• ImplementEmergencyResponseProcedures(ERPs)thatsupporteveryaspectofhydraulicfracturing,frommobilizationtoexecution,includingchemical

storage,transportation,facilitiesandourworksites.• Conductsafetymeetingsattheoutsetofoperationalactivitiesandonanongoingbasistoensurethatallinternalpolicyandproceduresareunderstood

andfollowed.• Reportallincidents,workerinjuryorspillsinanimmediatewaytoourcustomersandtotheregulator,asrequiredbyregulationsandbestpractices.• Holdoursubcontractorstothesameoperatingstandardsasweholdourselves.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTWe will…• Engagewithlocalcommunitiestounderstandandrespondtospecificlocalconcerns,andcommunicateopenlyaboutouroperationswhereweworkandlive.• Workthroughourindustryassociationtodeveloptoolsthatwillfacilitateongoingandmeaningfuldialogue,andmakesourcesoffact-basedinformationeasily

accessibletoourstakeholders.• Participate in the CommunityPartnersprogram,aprogramdedicatedtoremindingworkersaboutrespectfulbehaviours,andincludetheprogram’sguiding

principlesasapartofourinternalsafetypoliciesandprocedures.• ChampiontheCommunityPartnersprogramastheindustry-wideprogramtoourcustomersandoursubcontractors.• Committousinglocalsuppliersandserviceproviderswhenappropriateandavailable.
