metal & woodshelvingQUEST SERIESGENERAL SPECIFICATIONSShelving will be of sectional-type construction usingthe starter and adder design. Adder sections aredesigned to fasten to the uprights of both the startersection and other adders. Heights and depths will be asspecified by catalog numbers and drawings. Allsections will be of standard width to assure shelvinginterchange between separate units.

CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALSAll vertical uprights of shelving will be 1" thickveneer-core plywood "A" grade, plain slicedbookmatched oak. Intermediate panels will be 1" thickveneer core plain sliced red oak. Optional end andintermediate panels are available in solid oak or maple.

The starter section will have two vertical uprights offlush panel design and be 37" in total width. Holeswill be bored on 1-1/4" centers on the inside of the endpanel. These holes will be pproximately 5/16" indiameter and 7/16" in depth.

The adder section shall have one vertical upright andwhen fastened to another section will be 36" in totalwidth. Holes shall be bored on 1-1/4" centers on bothsides of the intermediate panel with the sameconfiguration as end panels. Threaded shelf pins are5/16" in diameter and 1" in length shall fit into theseholes without screwing.

Top and bottom frames shall be 35" wide by thedepth of shelving specified. Canopy cornice tops shallbe constructed of oak or maple plywood with 3/4" x 2-3/8" x 35" northern grown solid oak or maple. The toeboard shall be 3/4" x 4" x 35" and attached to thebottom frame using tongue-and-groove method. Topand bottom frames shall be attached to the end panelswith 5/16"-18 x 2-3/4” bolts. Bottom frames willaccept a metal base shelf.

All Metal Shelving is 12” deep and shall be 18 gaugealuminized steel fabricated with four bend edges at thefront and back edges able to support 50lbs. per linearfoot. Shelves shall be flush with the top surface of thebottom spreader channel. Shelves shall meet LibraryTechnology Report requirements.

The underside of each shelving end will have machinedslots to fit over the shelf pins.

Continuous tops for shelving units will be laminatefaced, wood-edged 13/16" thick, 3-ply construction withhigh density particle board core and a brown backer sheet.These tops will be internally banded using 1/4” thickmatching solid hardwood. Tops will be fabricated in thelongest lengths possible, and all joints will be splined andtight-joint fastened. These tops will be placed on top ofcanopy tops, consisting of 3/4" particle board or veneerwith attached cornice board of 3/4" x 2-1/4" x 35"northern grown solid oak or maple.

All shelving will be without backs unless otherwisespecified. When specified, backs will be matchingplywood panels 1/4" thick. Panels for single-facedshelving will be good one side, and panels of double-faced shelving shall be good two sides. Backs will slideinto a groove machined into the uprights.

FINISHAll wood components of each unit are finishedindividually prior to unit assembly. Thus, each part goesthrough a six-step finishing process, beginning withapplication of color and ending with two (2) applicationsof pre-catalyzed lacquer.

All metal shelving componets of each unit are powercoated finished Four standard colors are available. Specialcolors are available with an additional charge.
