Ballets de Paris

At Winter Garden Roland Petit 's Les Ballets de

Paris, a company of 20 youthful dancers who have been successful in. London and Paris this past Summer, are flying direct from Paris this weekend, to make their first appearance in the U. S. next week. Under the auspices of Lee & J. J. Shubert, by arrangement with Arthur Lesser, the French ballet troupe will open an engagement at the Winter Garden, at Broadway and 50th St. It will open next Thursday evening.

Les Ballets de Paris will feature a dance version of "Carmen," which captivated American visitors abroad during the company's four-month capacity run at the Marigny Theater, Paris, just ended. Choreographed in five scenes by Roland Petit, the 25-year-old direc tor-choreographer - p r i n c i p a l dancer of the* company, "Carmen" is based on the Prosper Merimee story, uses the opera score by Georges Bizet, and has decor and costumes by the Spanish painter Antoine Clave.

. "Carmen" will introduce to American audiences R e n e e Jeanmaire, a young French ballerina. Petit will have the role of Don Jose and the Toreador is danced by Serge Perrault.

the same tactics later. But s o m e h o w , Dartmouth this time had what it took to stop the Red and HlueJ on the half-yard line on fourth j down. they did unfurl the pass attack that had worked so well last year just about every time a pass was completed, the officials would find illegal use of hands in defending the passer.

Atop that, Dartmouth fumbled eight times, losing the ball five times. Penn also dribbled. The Red and Blue let die bail go free four times. In fact, one part of the second period was fumble, fumble. Fitkin fumbled, then Doone.z fumbled, 'hen Howard fumbled for Dartmouth—and R h o a d e s

fumbled for Penn. Almost one right after the other.

But then Agocs, who made good on Penn's three conversion attempts, blocked Chapman's punt and there were no more fumbles 'til after Graham crossed the goal line with the game's first score.

It's-almost impossible to overestimate the mid-section defensive strength of the victors. It was this that crowded Dart-! mouth's middle, giving the Red] and Blue enils the best oppor-j tunity to strut their stuff.

Penn ran up a "net of 2! ll yards, rushing against .'I^art-j mouth's JIG. It hadn't much of J

la pass attack, gaining only ..'ilj yards on 18 tries. Dartmouth's'; air game, being hobbled, gained only 70 yards on 21 tries.
