OUR BOXER – THE TECHNICALLY SUPERI-OR SYSTEM
THE SMALL PARTS STACKER CRANE
BOXER IS A SPECIAL STÖCKLIN SERIES
FOR AUTOMATED CONTAINER, TRAY OR
CARDBOARD BOXES STORAGE SYSTEMS.
Innovative and consistent implementation of light-
weight design has set new standards for energy
consumption. By comparison with other systems, the
BOXer is the lightest and therefore most energy-efficient
automated storage and retrieval unit for small parts on
the market. Stöcklin also offers the BOXer series as a
complete, ready-to-use system consisting of small parts
unit, container-conveying equipment, shelf storage/ret-
rieval unit, loading aids (containers, pallets), control and
warehouse management.
FLEXIBILITY
EVEN DIFFERENT CONTAINERS ARE NO
PROBLEM FOR THE BOXER.
The BOXer is suitable for standard containers and pal-
lets, as well as for boxes of different sizes and types.
Various load-carrying attachments are available for
single station as well as multiple station storage. In
addition to the classic combination telescopic units,
Stöcklin also offers box grippers as well as gripper-type
load carrying attachments.
RANGES OFAPPLICATIONS
THE BOXER IS THE ALL-ROUND TALENT IN
WAREHOUSES OF MULTIPLE SECTORS
• Pharmaceuticals / Cosmetics
• Spare parts
• Automotive
• Electronics
• Clock and watch industry
• Toys industry
• etc
DESIGN FEATURES AND HIGHLIGHTS
16 REASONS WHY THERE IS NO WAY
GETTING ROUND THE BOXER IN YOUR
SMALL PARTS WAREHOUSE
The BOXer standard range of products comprises
variable modules which can be easily adapted to
the costumer‘s requirements regarding functionality and
building structure.
For your existing containers such as plastic boxes or
trays the matching load carrying attachment
(LCA) can be defined for single-, double- or even four-
fold-depth use. The control system can parameterize the
LAC for different constitution and uneven load distribu-
tion of the load units.
The Omega travel drive with double toothed belt pro-
vides highest dynamics with minimum wear and
lowest energy demand. For all crane types an
additional anti-pendulum drive may be implemented.
This drive allows a higher performance especially
for very high cranes (E1/D1 up to 18 m; E2/D2 up to
22 m).
Due to the ergonomic and easy-to-maintain
design, the mechanical and control components can be
replaced within the shortest time possible. The reduced
downtimes guarantee a high availability as well as
low maintenance costs.
The mast head integrates a servicing platform,
that is accessible via a ladder incorporated in the mast.
From this platform the few but necessary maintenance
works on the mast head can be carried out fast and
easily. For cranes with anti-pendulum drive a fixed servi-
cing platform on the mast or within the shelf construction
is installed.
Regulated servodrives for the travel and hoist
mechanisms allow for an optimum adaptation of
acceleration, drive and braking curves. With suffici-
ently long aisles travelling speeds of up to 6
m/s are possible. BOXer with additional anti-pendu-
lum drive reach acceleration values of up to 4,0 m/s.
An intermediate circuit connection is provided by
default, and through an optional mains feedback system
the systems efficiency can be additionally increased.
The proven mast framework in aluminum lightweight
construction allows together with the jolt-free travel
curves a highly dynamic and vibration-low operati-
on. Generally no corrective travelling for repositioning
is needed. However, in critical warehouses a precise
positioning system may be optionally implemented.
Normally, a safety catch is not needed, but may be
executed optionally, if it is necessary that operators
are travelling on the lifting platform.
The positioning of the travel and lifting axis is done by
default by independent, high-precision laser mea-
surement systems. Alternatively, a barcode system
may be implemented.
The power supply of the descending and raising
lifting platform incl. LHD is carried out by a busbar
attached to the mast. The transmission of the Profibus
data is ensured via a infrared data light barrier.
On the load handling devices highly dynamic and
precise synchronous servodrives are used.
Due to a pre-commissioning in our factory the cranes
are delivered ready to use. Thus, shortest commissi-
oning times on site are guaranteed.
The modular design allows for a trouble-free instal-
lation even in existing buildings.
An independent load handling of the double-mast
cranes E2/D2 increases the performance up to
30%.
Enhanced safety of operation through standard
rack gap monitoring. This feature monitors the gap
between SCR and the rack. If a container or carrier is
detected within the track, the crane stops immediately
and a collision is avoided.
At our Helpdesk experienced Stöcklin employees
are at your disposal 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
both for problems with mechanical and control compo-
nents.
THE BOXER WITH ANTI-OSCILLATIONUPDATED SMALL PARTS STACKER
CRANE IMPRESSES WITH ITS
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The vehicle frame, which previously had a modular
design, was technically revised in the new develop-
ment. In addition to facilitating the manufacturing,
it was possible to further reduce the weight without
having to accept sacrifices of carrying capacity. The
vehicle frame, which now consists of only one module, can
be machined with one clamping in the tool. That means
lower manufacturing tolerances with reduced machi-
ning times.
It was likewise possible to use a lighter construction
for the masts and therefore make a statement in the
direction of “think green”. Thanks to the use of the most
modern technologies such as a combination of supply
and feedback modules, it was also possible to achieve
tremendous energy savings. The braking energies that
cannot be transferred to other axles are fed back into
the network.
OSCILLATION FREE TO THE UPPER LEVEL
Another innovation is the anti-oscillation drive, so
that a high degree of dynamics can be achieved
even with very tall small parts stacker cranes (15 to
22 m). Usually the drive unit installed on the vehicle
frame is not sufficient on its own to bring the device
into its target position without oscillations. This situati-
on has been remedied by placing an additional anti-
oscillation drive at the top of the mast, which largely
eliminates the oscillation of the mast and supports the
movement of the device in the horizontal direction.

THE BOXER IN FIGURES
The BOXer 1-mast models E1 and D1 are built up to an aisle height of 18 m. The BOXer 2-mast models E2 and D2
or E2V and D2V even up to aisle heights of 22 m.
THE TECHNICAL DATA SPEAKS FOR
ITSELF. THIS IS THE RESULT OF A WELL-
THOUGHT-THROUGH CONCEPT AND
USE OF HIGH QIALITY MATERIAL.
Stöcklin offers its modular BOXer series in four basic
versions; E1, E2, D1 and D2. This allows us to cover
the majority of market requirements. One of our many
strengths is, however, flexibility; this means that we can
adapt the BOXer or load-carrying attachment to your
specific requirements and circumstances. For example,
do you have containers or boxes which are excessively
long, wide or heavy? Or do you want to store load-car-
rying attachments three or even four deep on the shelf?
Together with us, you can find the optimum solution.
System performance is always one of the major fac-
tors. High speeds and acceleration rates always mean
higher component wear and higher power require-
ments. This is only practical when actually required.
We dimension your system so that sufficient reserves
are present to handle your products while helping you
to avoid unnecessarily high operating costs.

rying attachment for you among our standard varieties
we would be glad to talk to you about a special const-
ruction. We, from Stöcklin, are able to offer you exactly
the device you really need due to our in-house enginee-
ring and construction divisions. There is nearly no end to
the diversity of BOXer varieties.

designed for double depth storage of boxes with diffe-
rent dimensions as well as containers and pallets with
weights of up to 2 x 35 kg. Two telescopic grippers allow
storage and retrieval of entire shelf boards. The double-
belt conveyor installed on this load-carrying attach-
ment serves for separating and preliminary positioning
as well as rapid transfer to the conveying equipment.
RAIL AND BUSBAR
DUE TO OUR ULTRAMODERN RAIL
SYSTEMS OUR BOXER CRANES ARE
RUNNING VERY SILENTLY.
In order to achieve a silent and regular travel moti-
on, the BOXer uses polyamide wheels on a solid steel
rail. This rail is supported on sleepers fixed by threaded
anchorages inserted in the foundation. Optionally the
sleepers may also be underpoured, or for two-storey
applications fixed additionally for low vibration and
silence. The sleepers also serve as a support for the drive
belts attached to the left and the right of the drive rail.
At both aisle ends there are stable steel end plates,
where the hydraulic end buffers and the belt tensioning
devices are mounted. The power supply necessary
for the onboard components is realized via a busbar
directly attached to the shelf uprights. The busbars used
by us offer a great number of fixing possibilities, both for
single racks and shelving.
PICKING
YOU WANT YOUR PERSONNEL TO STAY
HEALTHY. WE ARE CONSCIOUS OF THIS
RESPONSIBILITY AND THEREFORE PLACE
GREAT VALUE ON THE ERGONOMIC
DESIGN OF PICKING STATIONS.
Human Engineering
During the picking operation, the items are
retrieved from storage, booked out and added to an
order. This requires concentration and physical sta-
mina on the part of the personnel. If the workstation
in question is not designed according to ergonomic
(human engineering) aspects, this not only affects
the health of the personnel, it also leads to errors.
An ergonomically designed workstation considers
the well-being and performance capability of the
personnel. In addition to posture, this also takes into
consideration noise emissions which we reduce to a
minimum. Moreover, we avoid sharp edges as well as
pinching and crushing points which could cause inju-
ries.
Picking station for automatic small parts
warehouse, „goods to person“
The work of providing goods to a picking sta-
tion in a small parts warehouse is accomplished
by the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
The goods are moved to the picking station in contai-
ners on the conveying equipment. As soon as a contai-
ner has arrived, the quantity to be picked appears on
the WMS picking display. Depending on the container,
the subdivisions are also shown on the monitor to show
the picker the compartment from which to take the items.
Naturally, we also offer connections to all types of
picking stations such as:
Picking station in front of the small parts warehouse
Picking via paper record
Picking via paper record
The goods to be picked are posted in the warehouse
management system via a barcode scanner.
Pick by light
This process is outstanding for warehouses which
have to cope with a high cargo handling.
The flashing shelf positions make a rapid reco-
gnition of the the required goods easy. The ack-
nowledging of the goods which is done direct-
ly via the control at the shelf, makes sure that the
picker has its hands free to take out the goods.
Pick by voice
As well as in the Pick-by-Light procedure, the great
advantage here is that the picker has got both hands
free.
The picker receives all retrieval orders via a wirel-
ess headset connected to the WMS. This guides the
picker to the target shelves, informs him of the number of
articles to remove and makes him acknowledge by
voice input via headset.
Control possibilities
• Barcode scan (single scanning of the article)
• Weighing the contents
Picking containers
• Directly into shipping boxes
• Via intermediate containers, which can be repa-
cked if necessary
Nowadays it is frequent to pick directly into the
shipping boxes. Our modern systems may provide you
automatically with cardboard boxes of the matching
size and close them after the picking is finished.
Together with you we will define the most suitable picking
sequence for your daily routine. Our professional
consultants are always available with help and advice.

MATERIAL FLOW
THE BRAIN AND NERVES OF YOUR
WAREHOUSE SYSTEM
The BOXer is to be considered as a operative subsys-
tem which consists of a mechanical system with automa-
tion components (control, sensors, drive, operation). In
order for the subsystem to bring to bear its efficiency, it
has to be integrated into the global system, which con-
sists of a warehouse management system (WMS) and a
material flow computer (MFC).
The warehouse management system administers
the articles and stocks of a warehouse, whereas the
material flow component executes the transport orders
proceeding from the WMS by priority. It calculates the
best possible routes considering the current plant status
and the traffic situation on the conveying paths of the
entire system. The material flow directs the containers in
the best manner from the starting point to the desired
target. In addition to activating the BOXer, the material
flow is also in charge of controlling the container con-
veyor system, i.e. the supplying and retrieval of goods
from the BOXer. The material flow speaks the language
of the subsystem and sends its commands to the BOXer
via the computer network of the warehouse operator,
receives the corresponding feedbacks and comes to
further decisions.
USER-FRIENDLY, GRAPHICAL DISPLAY
Our material flow computers have a modern user
interface, which not only allows to detect the operati-
on states of the subsystems, but also to execute manual
storage or retrieval movements. The high-bay warehou-
ses are represented graphically. The user may retrieve
detailed information about individual storage positions.
The animated two and three dimensional displays
improve the overall comprehension of the plant and the
current operating situation.
