Heli-Coil® Reference Guide #5
Why use Heli-Coil in Aerospace?
Heli-Coil Inserts Are Utilized In a Wide Varietyof Original Equipment and Repair Applications.
Here are some examples:
Design Flexibility• All Heli-Coil Wire Inserts are
available in 5 standard lengths• Inserts may be altered to fit
specialized applications by cutting or trimming coils
Minimize Space & Weight• Heli-Coil Wire Inserts allow the use
of smaller bosses• Allow repairs in areas where no
provision has been made for an insert
Eliminate Stress Increase Strength • Standard tapped holes carry most of the load on the first
2 or 3 threads• Heli-Coil Insert Assembly provides a dynamic load.
Each coil of the insert carries a portion of the load resulting in a stronger assembly

Inserts are available ...• In thread sizes up to 1-1/2 Inch and
M39 Metric• In a variety of pitch combinations• To accommodate the needs of today’s
Military, Aerospace, Automotive and Commercial Markets

Why use Heli-Coil in Aerospace?
Why use Heli-Coil PRIMER FREE® Inserts?
• Yellow/Green Stains on work surfaces
• Clogged Installation tools with hardened primer on them
• Containers of yellow/green paint like liquid
• Primer accrued on flats of inserts
Choose the Heli-Coil PRIMER FREE Solution and eliminate the need for costly primers and epoxies.
Primer can accrue in the space adjacent to the flats on the locking chords and adversely effect prevailing torque.
Typical Liquid Primer application process
PRIMER FREE• Contains no Hexavalent Chromium• Eliminates need for chromate primers• Provides added lubricity for easier installation• No additional hole preparation necessary• Ideal for aluminum & magnesium applications• Meets Aerospace Standards• RoHS Compliant
• Installation time is reduced significantly and total in-place cost is decreased dramatically• Increases installation productivity by effectively doubling installation rates• Increases installation tool life• Provides a more reliable final assembly

Liquid Primer
Primer-Free ll inserts have undergone extensive salt fog testing per ASTM B-117. After exposure, the samples were sectioned to expose the threaded insert for examination. When protecting against galvanic corrosion, Primer Free ll inserts did consistently meet or exceed the performance of insert assemblies containing liquid chromate primer.
Save money and time with PRIMER FREE in high production environments when quality installation matters.
PRIMER FREE is approved by many Aerospace OEMs
PRIMER FREE Coated Inserts
PRIMER FREE for Superior Corrosion Resistance
Tell Tale Signs of Liquid Primer User
Liquid Primer is Costly and Can Impact Quality Installation
Liquid Primer is ToxicToxicity: Recent studies have shown that not only is zinc chromate highly toxic, it is also a carcinogen.
PRIMER FREE for Installation Savings
