Artist of Study: Chuck Close
Chuck Close is known for his gigantically sized
photorealistic portraits. His work is based on using a grid, but he goes even
deeper. His paintings can take years to complete and
are original in form and idea. Chuck is known for being a
leading figure in the contemporary art world.

So....now what?
Two Options:
1. Create a portrait in sharpie with black and white texture.
2. Create a portrait in paint using color and texture.

12”x18” paper. 6”x8” photograph. On paper, grid using 1”squares. On photograph, grid using 1/2” squares.
Decide on levels of textures and value. Doodle out designs, and repeat these designs throughout the image.

Same size dimensions as sharpie, except student can work in a larger size if desired.
Acrylic or tempera paint
Practice creating paint squares with textures and values by using a variety of colors.
Remember that color shows value!
