The 2017 Bishop’s Appeal is underway! Through this important Appeal, we follow the example of Christ to serve our brothers and sisters here in the Diocese of Albany. By joining together in stewardship, we proclaim our unity to all; thereby letting those who need us the most know that they are an important part of our Catholic family. Please be as generous as you possibly can in responding to the Bishop’s Appeal.

ST. MARY’S BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP will meet on Wednesday, July 19, at 6:00 p.m. in the school sitting area outside of the auditorium. Please use the Thompson St. entrance as this is the door that will be open for our meeting. Our meetings are open to anyone who is struggling with their grief after the loss of a loved one. of these informal meetings. For more information about our group, please contact Josephine Perniciaro at 5185966886.

Our Tax DollarsWhen government funds selfish desires (unnatural parenting, sexual activities, and dependency), we should react. The public theatrics by Planned Parenthood supporters is raw and demeaning. That organization does 34% of all US abortions, profits from governmentsubsidized contraceptives, and links arms with people who treat sex as a sport. The natural appetite is intended for healthy growth, while PP encourages a poor substitute. PP does not own the market on contraceptives. Most common means are on sale at most drug stores. Why should tax dollars fund that appetite? The Church catechizes that nothing should interfere with the natural act, but about 80% of Catholics accept contraception. Who will replace the one million unborn aborted humans who die each year?

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Feast Day Celebration,

July 14, 15, & 16♦ A celebration of the feast

day of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha will be held at the National Shrine of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha in Fonda, NY, on July 14, 15, and 16. Kateri is the patroness saint of Native American peoples and ecology.

Faith Formation

While browsing through the Cardinal Newman Society website, I came across a section labeledCatholic Identity in Educationmeant as a guide for Catholic schools. I found it interesting personally because as a homeschooling mom, I am my son's school and it's my responsibility to do everything I can to foster his growth. I found that the questions below are useful for all of us, whether we have homeschooled children, traditionally schooled children or no children at all. Substitute the wordhomefor the wordschoolin the question and the wordfamilyforstudents.

How does the school ensure opportunities for students to encounter Christ in:

• Personal prayer?

• Community prayer?

• Essential traditional Catholic prayers?

• Eucharistic adoration, benediction, and procession?

• Marian devotions?

• Days of reflection?

• Prayers for particular devotions or charisms of the school?

• Prayer in the classroom?

• Prayer during extracurricular activities and programs?

• Prayers of the liturgical season and feast days?

• Prayers for spiritual direction?

• Prayers for vocational discernment?

• How does the school ensure that prayer is meaningful, respectful, and assists students indeepening their relationship with God?

Health Ministry: Stretching

‘What is more, it is precisely the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest which are

the indispensable ones…. If one part is hurt, all parts are in pain” ~1 Corinthians

12:222

♦ Over the years, we develop habitual ways of using our muscles to move and position ourselves. Poor posture and a lack of flexibility is often the result of limited stretching and improper body alignment. You have to lube your chassis to ensure a smooth ride. Regular stretching activates fluids in the joints, thereby reducing wear and tear caused by friction.

♦ Increased water intake is also believed to contribute to increased mobility for tissues and joints that have become less supple, and research has shown that we can counterbalance the effects of aging so that your physiology is a bit younger that your chronology.

♦ The best time to stretch is when your muscles are warm. You can do it after you work out or after a warm shower.

♦ Stretch every third day for 510 minutes to keep your muscles supple. If your muscles are especially tight, you might want to perform gentle stretching more often.

♦ Static stretching gradually lengthens a resting muscle. Do not bounce or reach once you have stretched your muscle to an elongated position. Hold the stretch for 1530 seconds.

♦ Check with your physician if you feel you might have some motion restrictions. Following are a few examples of effective stretching.
