Media Co. at no cost to the Township or its residents. We hope you find the newsletter informative.

Crete Township continues to provide many valuable services to our residents. Our Highway Department provides maintenance and snow removal to over 80 miles of roads. The Crete Township Assessor’s Office provides locally-based property value assessments and processes exemptions for partial property tax relief. The Township Clerk’s Office provides

many services including voter registration, maintenance of the Precinct 9 Polling Place (the Crete Town Hall) as well as marriage and civil union licenses/certificates. In

addition, Crete Township provides general assistance, mosquito abatement, Dial-A-Ride services for senior and disabled residents and special senior events. The

Town Hall building is utilized by a wide variety of local charitable and civic organizations including the Crete Food Pantry, Crete Township Homeowners’ Associations, the Crete Bulldogs, Crete Baseball, Angels on Assignment, the Crete Womans Club and is also used as the adjudication court by the Village of Crete.

If you have a community event that you would like to have considered to be included in the newsletter, please email a brief article, along with your email address and telephone number to [email protected].

This marks the first issue of the comeback of The Crete Township Messenger. This

newsletter is meant to communicate to all Crete Township residents and keep them informed of current issues as well as services provided by the Township.

The people who serve in Crete Township Government are men

and women who embody the practice of citizen government. Crete Township’s motto, we are the people next store.

Our monthly Township meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month. All, are welcome to attend, it is a public meeting. Here, you will have the opportunity to voice any concerns

or comments directed at the Township.

In Crete Township, we have been fortunate, for those in need are few. I would like to make Township residents aware that a General Assistance program is available for those facing hard times. Assistance is distributed in the form of rental aid, electric and gas bill help. I am at the center of this service, and would be glad to answer any questions you may have. The General

Assistance fund is our way to help those in need.

If you have any questions regarding Crete Township or General Assistance, please feel free to contact my office at (708) 672-8279.

SUMMER 2014 // Crete Township News 3

We are excited to be able to reach our township residents again via this

newsletter. It is a great opportunity to tell you what our office has been doing and to remind you about the exemptions that are available to homeowners.

As this article is being written, our 2014 assessment changes have been entered, our township multiplier has been determined for all of our residential and farm parcels, and assessment change notices are scheduled to be published in the Record-Monitor on August 7. If you do not receive a notice you can visit willcountysoa.com to review your assessment or you can call or stop by our office.

You can always view your property record card to see how you are assessed. We strive for accuracy but if an error is found, we can certainly correct it.

There are several exemptions that are available to our residents. Please contact us for requirements.

Also, please note that the amounts are off of the assessed value – not actual tax dollar savings.

There is also the Senior Assessment Freeze which freezes the assessed value of the home, NOT the tax amount. To qualify, the property owner must receive the

Senior Exemption and have a total household income under $55,000. Proof of income must be supplied every spring when reapplying.

As always, if there is anything the assessor’s office can assist you with please do not hesitate to contact us at (708) 672-8291 or via email at [email protected]. Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Sincerely,Sandy Drolet, Assessor

The main focus of Crete’s mosquito program is to keep the viruses that

mosquitoes are capable of carrying out of Crete. We spray 2 to 3 days

a week weather permitting, with a pesticide that is safe for the environment and is pet friendly. Any questions you may call the Town Hall at (708) 672-8279.

We provide meeting facilities for groups such as the Crete Food

Pantry, Will County Senior Services, American Legion, Angels on Assignment and other service organizations.

The Township Hall has been given a much needed face lift including new audio and video

systems, new ceiling fans and a fresh coat paint on the walls. As for the exterior, dead trees have been removed, new landscaping installed, and new benches placed by the entrance doors.

We hope everyone will have the opportunity to view the refreshed appearance of the Township Hall.

Crete Township’s annual Senior Picnic was held on Saturday, July 12. Despite

inclement weather we had a great turn out. It was held at Town Hall and approximately 80 seniors attended the festivities.

Frank Elton, Crete Township Trustee, who is also in charge of activities for our seniors, did the barbequing. Hot dogs, hamburgers and brats were enjoyed by all.

This year’s entertainment included, a band, along with bingo and prizes. Many left with smiles on their face.

Although the holidays are several months away, mark your calendars for our Crete Township Senior Christmas Dinner. It will be held at Town Hall on Saturday, December 13.

Check our website and marquee for sign up and time information in the upcoming months.

6 Crete Township News \\ SUMMER 2014

ANTHONY “TONY” RECUPITOCrete Township Highway Commissioner

Welcome to our new Township newsletter. I hope you find the

information useful and informative. The first half of 2014 has been very challenging for all our crew members due to the record breaking snowfall and the spring and early summer storms that have hit our Township. These events have put a strain on all our resources, but all of us at The Highway Department are “up for the challenge.”

As this newsletter goes to press, our department is currently involved in replacing or rehabbing four of our Township bridges. Most notably, the Richton Road Bridge replacement over Plum Creek is in full swing with a projected completion date of October 1, 2014. I would like to thank all the residents that have been inconvenienced by this project for their continued patience.

I am pleased to inform everyone that I was successful in securing partial funding for all these bridge projects from sources other than the Crete Township Road District Fund. As an example, the Richton Road Bridge, which is the most expensive single public works project in Crete Township Road

District history ($1,500,000.00), will be funded through the Federal Highway Bridge Replacement Program (80%), Will County Division of Highways (10%), and Crete Township Road District (10%).

Other bridge projects are scheduled to be completed in 2015 and 2016. We are also completing our 2014 Pavement Maintenance Projects as well as our routine tree trimming, culvert replacements, roadside mowing and branch pick up.

For more Highway Department information, please visit our website at www.cretetownship.com and click on the Highway Department news and information page. As always, your questions and comments are very important to me.

If you need assistance please call my office at (708) 672-7732 or email me at [email protected].

TRUSTEE MICHAEL J. LICCAR

Crete Township has been continuing its partnership with Washington Township to

provide transportation for eligible Crete Township residents to and from grocery stores, local shopping centers, nursing homes, restaurants, hair appointments, medical appointments, friends or relatives homes.

The service is available to eligible Crete Township residents who are at least 60 years of age or older or who are disabled. All buses are equipped with lifts.

Crete Township provides approximately 3,300 rides to its residents per year. Though there is no actual cost for the service, there is a suggested donation of $4 per ride to help offset the actual

expenses of the program. A portion of the operating costs are offset

by a grant provided by the federal agency Area on Aging with the

remainder being absorbed by the Crete Township.

Due to restrictions in the grants, increases in operating costs and limited financial participation by certain adjacent townships, the actual net costs per ride has increased from about $12 per ride last year to about $16 per ride this year.

The service operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Please call (708) 946-2026 or email [email protected] to schedule appointments at least 48 hours in advance. Scheduling requests are accepted between the hours of 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last return pick-up each day is at 2:30 p.m. at (708) 946-2026
