BULLETIN DEADLINE
Fri. 12:00 noon, 1 week prior March 20, 2016 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
3
Palm Sunday
The palm tree is a symbol of victory. Victorious Roman soldiers would carry palm branches when parading in Rome.
It was also a victory emblem at public games. All four gospels speak of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. But
only the gospel of John tells about palm branches. This procession was reenacted by Christians in Jerusalem for sev-
eral centuries after Jesus’ death. We continue the tradition by taking blessed palms to our homes as a symbol of
Christ’s presence in the place where we live.
We are preparing to enter the holiest, the most beautiful and solemn time of the Church year – Holy Week and the
Easter Triduum. More than any other time during the year, our focus this week should be on the God who loves us so
much that he was willing to allow his only Son to suffer and die to free us from the bonds of death. The TV stations
will still run their regular programs, most people will continue to work their regular hours. What will you do to make
this a “holy week” in your life?
READ THE BIBLE: Consider taking extra time to read the scriptures this week. You will find the scripture passages
for each day in this bulletin.
PRAY: Come and spend some time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. Spend some extra time at home praying
with the family or on your own. Make an effort to attend the beautiful liturgical celebrations which the church offers
this week.
FAST: Remember, Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence (no meat). Catholic faithful are strongly encouraged
to continue the Good Friday fast until after the Easter Vigil. If you can, please make an effort to fast on Good Friday
and on Holy Saturday. The time you would ordinarily spend eating could be spent reading the Bible or in prayerful
meditation.
May you have a blessed and holy celebration of the Lord’s passion, death, and resurrection. May it be for you a re-
newal of your pledge to become more like Christ by imitating him in all you do and say.
God bless you! Fr. Bob
Why is “Good Friday” called “good”? That’s a question many children have asked me. Actually, in Spain and Italy
it is called “Holy Friday.” In Germany, “Sorrowful Friday.” In the Eastern Churches, “The Holy and Great Friday.”
In Denmark, “Long Friday.” The origins of the English “Good Friday” are uncertain. Some say that on this day one
sees the greatest manifestation of God’s “goodness.” Others say that “Good” Friday mistakenly evolved from the
original phrase “God’s” Friday. Along with Easter, it is the oldest feast in the Church’s calendar.
SOUTHWEST WAUSAU
CIRCLE OF JOY FOOD PANTRY
It’s time to start planning for our Easter food baskets. We hope to
provide at least 15 families with an Easter meal this year. Do you
think you could help? We will need, of course, at least 15 hams.
We have freezer space available. If you can help with a ham donation, please call the
number below and we’ll make arrangements for you to drop it off, or for someone to pick
it up.
Cash donations are also needed to purchase items that we might not have on our shelves.
Checks should be made payable to “Circle of Joy” and can be put in an envelope marked
“Circle of Joy” and dropped in any collection basket at church, or can be mailed directly
to: Circle of Joy, P.O. Box 5024, Wausau WI 54402-5024.
If your family would benefit from an Easter food basket, please
contact Dee at 715-573-4858. We will make every effort to help.
As in the past, we are asking any-one attending Mass on Holy Thurs-day to consider bringing a non-perishable food item to Mass for the food pantry. The groceries will NOT be carried up to the altar (as we did at Thanksgiving) – they can be brought to the main entrance of church, or can be left at any exit when you come into church. These contributions help replenish our shelves after giving out the food baskets for Easter. The Offertory Collection that day will also benefit the Circle of Joy. 2

to come and pray. It is located on the main floor

~Marathon, WI. Weaving Our Stories Basket Weaving Retreat,
April 15-17 Basket weaving is one of the oldest crafts known – but it is so much more than a craft! It is a wonderful way to connect the ordinary with the sacred as you notice the parallels with weaving and our life’s journey. You will create a beautiful basket, woven by you, to remind you of this step on your faith journey. No weaving experience is needed, just willing hands and heart. Begins with 7 p.m. Friday supper and ends with the noon meal on Sunday. Cost of $185 includes overnight accommoda-tions, delicious buffet meals, and program fees. Presented by Kaila Russell. LIVING ROSARY & CROWNING OF MARY
on April 27th from 6:15-7:30pm Religious Education will be presenting a Living Rosary along with the Crowning of Mary.
In presenting the Living Rosary all students, from kindergarten through 10th grade, will hold a knot on the rosary rope to say the
prayer together. The rosary goes up and down each aisle, throughout the entire church. It is a beautiful celebration.
With May being the month of Mary, we take the opportunity to emphasize the importance of Mary in our faith by crowning her in a small celebration.
The Parish Center will be closed
Friday, March 25th and Monday March 28th.
Fr. Bob, Fr. Dan, Deacon Bob, and the Staff,
would like to wish you all a blessed Easter Season!

The Casa Mission Team will be hosting a Casa Hogar Drive for clothing and

When: April 9th Time: 8am to 1pm Where: Holy Name School Gym
What can do the children need? Clothing for boys and girls ages 5-17. Clothing should be new or very lightly used. All clothing must be modest in nature; no tank tops for girls,
hemlines/shorts cannot be too short and shirts should have appropriate printing. Shoes are always needed, especially dress shoes for both boys and girls.
First aid supplies in all types, especially Neosporin. Items must be sealed and medicine cannot have expired. Personal items such as toothpaste and deodorant are also nice with this
donation. As a special treat, we are hoping to take soccer balls, footballs and other outdoor activity equipment for the kids to enjoy. One thing they often run low on are presents (toys, stuffed animals, games) for birthday gifts. Please be
mindful that complex game directions and books should be in Spanish. In order to take the donations to the children, used suitcases
are needed. Along with monetary donations to help with the charges to check the luggage. In 2012, the Mission Team took (17) 50# suitcases with us. If we are blessed again with
that amount of donations, the luggage charges could be as much as $950. NO part of this monetary donation will be
used towards the cost of the trip for any participant.
If you would like to drop off donations at a time other
than the drive, have
questions about this drive or would like to make a donation, please contact Noel Furger at 715-842-4543 or at
