What is STaR?
The STaR chart is a teacher self-assessment of the integration of technology in the
curriculum.
Why is STaR important?
•We have to be in the game with advancing technology in our classrooms!
•As part of NCLB all teachers must be literate in the use of technology, as well as, integrating technology into the curriculum.
•The StaR Chart is aligned to the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology and allows teachers to assess their own knowledge technology use for planning and instruction.
What does the STaR chart do for our campus?
•Helps determine what campus and/or individual professional development may be needed
•Provides data to determine state progress towards technology goals
•Provides data to determine needed resources and/or grants
•Helps determine needed funding to fulfill the needs of teachers and students
•Conceptualizes campus and district technology vision
What is the rating system?
• There are four levels:– Early tech
– Developing tech
– Advanced tech
– Target Tech =
What is the rating system?
• There are four key areas with six subcategories for each area– Teaching and Learning– Educational Preparation and Development– Leadership, Administration and
Instructional Support– Infrastructure for Technology
How are we scored?
• Through a survey addressing all four areas (six subcategories per area) teachers will assess themselves as
1=early tech2=developing tech3=advanced tech4=target tech
• The total points will be added to determine the key area STaR classification.
Where do we currently fall? (2009/2010 data) Key Area Average Rating
across subcategories
Key Area Total Classification
Teaching and Learning
2.3 14 Developing Tech
Educator Preparation and Development
1.8 11 Developing Tech
Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support
2.1 13 Developing Tech
Infrastructure for Techonolgy
2.8 17 Developing Tech
What does this mean? • While our campus is moving toward Advanced
and Target Tech, we need to… – Know and consistently use Technology TEKS – Have 26-50% of students mastering technology
TEKS – move to more student-centered learning using
technology– increase use of technology and web based lessons– incorporate Technology TEKS into subject areas

In conclusion ….• Knowledge of individual technology use is
important for reaching our goal– The Teacher STaR Chart provides this!
• Knowledge of campus technology use is critical for evaluating our progress– Our Campus STaR data provides this!
• We are in a technological age where we can use the advantages of technology to benefit our students learning– Every teacher should be fulfilling this!
With continued support from our teachers, students and administration we can reach the
Target goal!
