Why target Gulmohar Society only?
During the police bandobast at JN2 Gulmohar Society on 21 June, electricity and water lines were cut off. As a mark of protest the residents of that society staged an agitationat Vashi’s Shivaji Chowk and opposed the incident. In Navi Mumbai there are 443 dangerous buildings and no action is being taken against them but only Gulmohar Society atSector 9 is being targeted and action being taken against them, complain the residents of that society. The curtainsfinally came down ona month and a halflong World CupCricket hysteria. Thediehard fans, formany of whom cricketis a religion have towait another 4 yearsuntil they witness thesame fervor the WorldCup brings. The next4 years each team willsweat it out in prepa-ration to take homethe favourite cup in2023 and ICC need tohave a re-look. Theyactually have a lotat hand. Tree Plantation and
Anti-Plastic DriveUnder the guidance of municipal commissioner of Navi Mum-
bai Dr Ramaswami N, a campaign against plastic was carried outin the city. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Maharash-tra Pollution Board jointly carried out the campaign at Nerul’sReliance Mart, Shivaji Nagar and other parts by confiscating 400kg of plactic and imposing fine of Rs 10000. At Bikaner, Nerul,11 kgm of plastic bags were confiscated and Rs 5000 fine amountwas imposed. The campaign was carried out under the control ofNerul’s ward officer Sanjay Tayade and in the presence of inspec-tor Jayashri Adal, deputy cleanliness inspector Ajit Tandel, Viren-dar Pawar, Bhushan Sutar, and Maharashtra Pollution ControlBoard’s officers and workers.
Another interesting happening in Navi Mumbai was the cele-bration of Guru Pournima by carrying out a tree plantation cam-paign again under the guidance of municipal commissioner of NaviMumbai Dr Ramaswami N. The plantation was carried out at Jew-el of Navi Mumbai.
The event was organized by NMMC’s garden department andthose who participated included municipal commissioner Dr Ra-maswami N, additional commissioner Ravindra Patil and MahavirPendari, administration department deputy commissioner KiranrajYadav, chief accounts and finance officer Dhanraj Garad, chiefaccounts examiner Dayanand Nimkar, city engineer Surendra Pa-til, assistant director townplanning Ovesh Momin, garden de-partment’s deputy commissioner Nitin Kale, zone 1’s DC Da-dasaheb Chabukswar, zone 2’s DC Dr Amrish Patnigire, wastemanagement department’s DC Tushar Pawar, etc centre’s direc-tor Varsha Bhagat, transport manager Shirish Aradwad, execu-tive engineer Ajay Sankhye and others.
So both anti-plastic campaign and tree plantation campaignare important events considering the fact that the harm causedby use of plastic bags and cutting of trees are tremendous. Theenvironment is being badly affected owing to these two practicesthat many anti-social elements are indulging in. NMMC undermunicipal commissioner Dr Ramaswamy N is doing yeomen ser-vice to the society by trying to protect the environment by carry-ing out campaigns related to anti-plastic and tree plantation. Thismove on the part of NMMC is bound to prove to be of greatbenefit to the city residents in the long run.

Fashion shows are not for front benches aloneThe influence of so-
cial media has changedthe way fashion is per-ceived around theworld. This has trick-led down to the city asone can see more standalone stores and malls. Moreover, one does nothave to rely on thesestores any more asthere is e-commerce.The increased visibilitydue to Instagram andFacebook has forcedpeople to maintain big-ger wardrobes. Fashionhas taken the countryby storm and both menand women participatein the events organisedall over India.
Not only for young-sters, the events areorganised for over sizedwomen and male seniorcitizens. Recently one ofmy male senior frienddid the ramp walk toperfection with pyjamaand kurta and the la-dies would have feltproud of him. Again, ourCo-op Housing societyin Navi Mumbai ar-ranged a fashion paradeand the house wivestook an active part andthe mixture of nationalintegration came toview in a well organisedfashion parade. Manypeople do not see it asan art any more. Theyjust look at it as a mon-ey minting businessand that is what both-ers me much.
People are ready toexperiment. It is nolonger just the reds andblues that denote festiv-ities. This season it ismostly metallic coloursfor fusion wear andearthy colours for the
Indian wear which arepreferred and look gor-geous. Crop tops couldbe worn over ethnicmaxi skirts and teamedwith a pair of Kolhapu-ri chappals or designerKurtis. And if you don’tmind experimenting, you could even teamyour crop top with apair of dhoti pants.
Owing to the sum-mer heat of 2019, I
would recommendsteering clear of jacketsand heavy ghagras andto avoid most colourfuloutfit. A Kanjeevaramsari could be convertedinto a skirt and pairedwith a bold-colouredcrop top. Also, a blouseconverted into a niceanarkali, with a flowychiffon base, that wouldlook lovely for the sum-mery festivities andenjoy wearing. One canalso prefer kurti that isso versatile and thesari that speaks of cul-ture and heritage in itsown way.
Fitness play a pivot-al role in fashionshows. The prepara-tion before the big mo-ment and withstand thetension and the heat
after wearing the pre-ferred attire for the bigday. The art of fashionhas come to stay. Fash-ion means much morethan what we thinkjust about clothing. Itis that feeling of confi-dence and happinessthe client feels on wear-ing it which makes thewhole journey, from fab-ric to the dress, worthit for the event. The
fashion industry haschanged over the yearsand we feel the real heaton in fashion industry. From a reluctance inexperimenting withcuts and designs, wesee today anti-fits, bodycons, drapes and one-shoulders disappearquickly from her racks. It is a welcome changeand attributes it to aninflux of people herefrom all over the coun-try. Anyway, the art offashion has largely
changed to the businessof fashion.
We are going to seethese colours promi-nently this summer. So, there are anarkali-style long dresses inorange and yellow Man-galagiri cotton silkswith animal motifsembroidered in silkthread at the cuffs andBenaras saris convert-ed into skirts with
multi-hued side panelsand teamed up withfuss-free crop tops.Sheer capes with em-broidery or jackets areadd-ons in place of du-pattas. Fashion farish-ta has taken us to agreat level and experi-menting plays a signif-icant role in style.Hand-woven cottons,cotton-silks and rawsilks are the mainstayin the cupboard of col-lection, but there’s alsothe occasional chiffon
with pitta work to ca-ter to those yet to warmup to hand looms.
India beach fashionweek assumes greaterimportance duringsummer months andwe can see the partici-pants look exuberant toparticipate and make ita show of a life time. The Como Collectivetook the stage with thelatest in swimwear, re-
sort wear, cocktail andluxury pret collections, showcasing work of thedesigners in a typicalway. Women power iscoming to fore in thesefashion events and thetime frame and the ex-quisite way of dressingrevealing the beauty alladd to the colour andcapture the lens fromacute angle. Evencricketers make theirpresence felt in fashionshows to make theevent more colourful.
An exclusive showof expensive gold, dia-mond and platinumjewellery was also therein show business.South-based jewelleryhouse that has set footin and exhibited arange of high-end mod-ern jewellery collec-tions. Models struttedalong the ramp, wear-ing chunky necklacesand headpieces, mak-ing heads turn. All thatglitters are not gold butthe art work and mak-ing of ornaments all addto the fashion. A showof style and clamour isexhibited in these fash-ion shows of high qual-ity. It is worth watch-ing from close proximi-ty.
Fashion showsthrows light on the lat-est fashion and it is amatter of survival of thefittest. The women fromtheatre, media and oth-er professions partici-pated in the event thathad displayed ethnicand Western wear andit is not simply showbusiness. These eventscarry more value in pro-moting products of classand the judges and ju-ries sit very close to finda fit and fashionableperson. It is not just forfront benches alone butcarry a weight to over-shadow the real worthin the fashion world.

unbearable pain. While cause of a lotof wrist sprains is afall mine surely is ,you can also getthem by: Being hitin the wrist, exertingextreme pressure onthe wrist or twistingit
Symptoms of awrist sprain include-Pain, Swelling,Tenderness andwarmth around theinjury, Feeling apopping or tearing inthe wrist, Bruising,Loss of motion,Weakness and youshould try to getproper diagnosis .Todiagnose a wristsprain, your doctorwill give you athorough physicalexam, Or willsuggest an: X-ray,MRI (magneticresonance imaging),Arthrogram, aspecial type of X-rayor MRI done after adye is injected intothe wrist, Arthrosco-py, a minimallyinvasive surgery inwhich a tiny camerais inserted into thewrist depending onyour need.
Sprains areusually divided intothree grades depend-ing on the pain.Grade I: Pain withminor damage to the
ligament, Grade II:Pain, more severeligament damage, afeeling of loosenessto the joint, andsome loss of func-tion, Grade III:Pain, a completelytorn ligament, severe looseness ofthe joint, and loss offunction and furthertreatment is decidedby the grades of thepain. While minor-to-moderate wristsprains should healon their own as theyjust need a littletime severe injuryshould be treatedproperly; you haveto follow a few steps:
• You should restyour wrist for atleast 48 hours.
• You have to Iceyour wrist to reducepain and swelling, for 20-30 minutesevery three to fourhours for two tothree days, or untilthe pain is gone youkeep doing it.
• You shouldcompress the wristwith a bandage.
• Elevate yourwrist above yourheart, or on a pillowor the back of achair as often as youcan.
• Take anti-inflammatorypainkillers but theyshould be non-steroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs), like Advil,Aleve, or Motrin, willhelp with pain andswelling. However, these drugs can haveside effects, like anincreased risk ofbleeding and ulcers. They should be usedif the doctor pre-scribes.
• Use a cast orsplint to keep yourwrist immobile butfor a short time onlyuntil you see thedoctor. Then youshould follow thedoctor’s advice aboutwhether or not tocontinue using asplint. Using a splintfor too long can resultin more stiffness andmuscle weakness insome cases.
• You shouldpractice stretchingand strengtheningexercises if yourdoctor recommendsthem. It is better ifyou see a physical oroccupational thera-pist to guide a pro-gram specific to yourcondition.
Sometimes insevere Grade III wristsprains, in which theligament is snapped, may require surgeryto repair. So take careof felling down andsave yourelf fromwrist injury and if ithappens take care totake medical help.

LabyrinthitisAbout labyrinthitis
Labyrinthitis is an inner ear infection. It causesa delicate structure deep inside your ear calledthe labyrinth to become inflamed, affecting yourhearing and balance.
The most common symptoms are dizziness, hearing loss (from mild to total loss of hearing)and vertigo – the sensation that you, or the envi-ronment around you, is moving.
These symptoms can range from mild to se-vere, with some people feeling that they are un-able to remain upright. Other symptoms include:
a feeling of pressure inside your ear(s)ringing or humming in your ear(s) (tinnitus)fluid or pus leaking out of your ear(s)ear painfeeling sick (nausea) or being sicka high temperature (fever) of 38C (100.4F) or
abovechanges in vision, such as blurred vision or
double visionmild headachesCertain things can make the dizziness worse,
including:colds or illnessthe darkbeing in crowded areas or small roomstirednessa women’s periodwalkingSee your GP if you have these symptoms. You should also avoid driving, using tools and
machinery, or working at heights if you’re feelingdizzy.
Treating labyrinthitis
In most cases, the symptoms pass within afew weeks. Treatment involves a combination ofbed rest and medication to help you cope betterwith the symptoms. You may need additional med-ication to fight the underlying infection, althoughantibiotics are not often required as the cause ismost commonly due to a virus.
Contact your GP if you do not notice any im-
provement after three weeks. You may need to bereferred to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist.
A small number of people have persistentsymptoms that last for several months, or possi-bly years. This requires a more intensive type oftreatment called vestibular rehabilitation thera-py (VRT).
The labyrinth
The labyrinth is the innermost part of theear. It contains two important parts:
the cochlea – this relays sounds to the brainand is responsible for hearing
the vestibular system – a complex set of flu-id-filled channels that contributes to your senseof balance
Inflammation of the labyrinth can disruptyour hearing and sense of balance, triggering thesymptoms of labyrinthitis. The labyrinth usual-ly becomes inflamed either because of:
a viral infection, such as a cold or flua bacterial infection, which is much less com-
monWho gets labyrinthitis?
Most cases of viral labyrinthitis occur inadults aged 30 to 60 years old. Viral labyrinthi-tis is relatively common in adults. Other typesof ear infections are usually more widespread inchildren. Bacterial labyrinthitis is much lesscommon. Younger children under two years oldare more vulnerable to developing bacterial lab-yrinthitis.Complications of labyrinthitis
Bacterial labyrinthitis carries a higher riskof causing permanent hearing loss, particularlyin children who have developed it as a complica-tion of meningitis.
Because of this high risk, a hearing test isrecommended following bacterial labyrinthitis.
Severe hearing loss following bacterial laby-rinthitis can sometimes be treated with a cochlearimplant. This is not a conventional hearing aid,but a small electronic device fitted under the skinbehind the ear during surgery.

ISRO CautiousIt was a moment the country waited with
bated breath but it came into cropper asISRO postpones second moon mission at theeleventh hour. India’s second mission to theMoon, Chandrayaan 2 on board GSLV Mk -III dubbed as Bahubali scheduled for takeoff was aborted as there was a technicalsnag. It was a wise decision by ISRO whichprevented a huge loss and total disappoint-ment. Bullied as the most complex andprestigious mission ever undertaken by theISRO since its inception. The failed missionmay cause disappointment but the measuretaken as caution came at the right time. The crestfallen spectators left the scene intotal disappointment after the postpone-ment.

Nullah drowningDrowning cases crippled city ever since
monsoon rains began and it has become anew in one or the other corner of metro. Inthe third such instance in less than a week,a seven year old boy died after falling intonulla in Dharavi. There is no value forhuman life and children in the growing agefall into the trap after careless handling ofnulla and ponds in residential areas. Evenparents are also irresponsible in allowingtheir siblings go scot free and pay heavyprice. This is an alarming situation andbetter council should prevail in dealing withopen pond and nulla and unless safetymeasures are not followed such waterstorage places needs to be pulled up andclosed once for all to avoid danger of drown-ing.- Lakshmi Raghu, Kalina, Mumbai
Cup Of Hope GoneWith The Wind
As an ardent fan of game of cricket I wassupporting and writing with a caption“World Cup To Our Doorsteps” with a hopeof bringing the trophy to India for the thirdtime. And this time it took place in Englandand I wanted to prove that the 2011 victoryat home against Sri Lanka is not just athing of the past and we are capable of doingso with regular frequency. But my hopeswere dashed to dust with the dismissal ofRohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahuland we were staring in defeat from the wordgo. Century maker fell in the trap, captainwas conspicuously absent by his innovativeshuffling and Rahul left the team in thelurch. The recovery through both RishabPant and Hardik Pandya came to end whenit was flourishing. And last but not the least
the rearguard action took us to a greaterheights and a vision for victory. But as thetarget was stiff enough for a chase due to earlyloss of wickets and snail like approach by asenior batsman put us into unwanted difficul-ties and the going became tough and in theend it became aimless when the tail endbatsmen came and gone. However, despite apoor show in vain by Team India our mediashower praise on our players and considerthem immortals. Even an ordinary show isconsidered extraordinary and that too in alosing cause.
The Indian team sailed smoothly league
stages of the mega event but had a Titanicmoment in the first knockout game. By theby, the Men in Blue delivered a repeat 2015semi-final show and bowed out of the tourna-ment. We were having number of recordbreakers but very few match winners. Theweakness on the off stump by the top order, the breakdown of the middle order and theweakness of the tail all add to our miseries. Ofcourse, we are having World Champion tag butour outcricket did not reveal such a name incrunch games and we fail at the altar. We lookfor weak link for winning rather go all out andplay competitive cricket. To add to that we arecomplacent and paid heavy price on this count. Both ratings and rankings have become farceas we lost to weaker opposition when it reallymattered. Our losses to Zimbabwe, Sri Lankaand Bangladesh in the past proved our inher-ent weakness. The latest defeat at the hands ofNew Zealand is one more case of failure on thefinishing line. So by virtue of league wins I amnot going to shower praise to our players butlook at their performance game by game.
Ravi Shastri as a coach failed miserably inthe hunt for the World Cup. He showed likesand dislikes on certain players and deserve3.5/10 for dubious role.
Virat Kohli showed his arrogance and
never saw a Kane Williamson in him. Hefailed often for both pace and spin and theshuffle and the referrals that followed hisundoing 5/10
Rohit Sharma- a record maker and if heplays pace well he fail against spin and viceversa. In all a total disappointment in thefield and in the semi-final match and it waspoor. 5.5/10
Ravindra Jadeja, the bits and piecesplayer was not considered fit to play in theplaying XI and later on considered only toshow a flash in the pan and perish 4.5/10
Shikhar Dhawan- Out early with aninjury he was part of the Injured Indian XIin the past also and this time he was madeto sit and warm up benches. 4/10
KL Rahul- Neither an opener nor amiddle order batsman. He hit 350 plus runsbut when it really mattered he was a novicein his usual way 5/10
Rishab Pant - A poor man’s Dhoni. He isnot suitable for top order but fitted in thattop spot under compulsion. 3.5/10
Vijay Shankar- Neither a batsman nor abowler and there is no three dimensionalattraction in his game. He became a passen-ger in the end. 2.5/10.
Hardik Pandya - Poor man’s Ian Botham. He was playing more aerial shots and hispresence was short lived like an air bubble. He perished and India lost. 4/10
Mohd. Shami- The real tormentor athome and abroad he got into the side at acrucial time and made way also in a crunchgame. He is a rabbit with the bat. 5/10
Japrit Bumrah We banked on him toomuch but could not do great death bowlinglike Starc. He made his presence felt and theend was in sight when he came to batting- 6/10
Kedar Jadhav- Never considered as aspinner or as a top order but an also playedas a player. He is not fit for one day andAshwin could have been an automatic choice1/10
MS Dhoni - An asset as well as a liabilityin the side. BCCI has given him notice tovacate his place behind the stumps. He wasa team man earlier and not now. 4.25/10
Dinesh Karthik - A loving DK- a goodcatcher in front of the stumps and repeatedfailures and no confidence on him by thecaptain made him a push over 2.5/10
Kuldeep Yadav- Neither a mystery bowlernor a freak bowler an ordinary bowler- bowlbest at times 3.75/10
Y. Chahal - Lacking in length and direc-tion can be hit to the park. Poor fielder andso deserve sacking despite limited success 4/10
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar - Off colour mostof the time in the World Cup matches. He isneeded only on Indian wickets 3.75/10
