STATE TIMES NEWS HIRANAGAR: Employ-ment- Information-cum-Advisory Bureau,Department of LifelongLearning, University ofJammu today organised anawareness programme in'Careers in Sciences' at Govt.Degree College, Hiranagar.

The programme was organ-ised under the supervision ofDr. Kavita Suri, Director,DLL. The objective of theprogramme was to help thestudents at their crucial stageto plan their careers and takeappropriate decision.

It was inaugurated by Dr.Subhash Chander Sharma,

S Pura.On the occasion, DrVikasTandon, Chief Scientistand Head KVK Jammu elabo-rated that parthenium is popu-larly known as Gajar grass andit is harmful for livestock as wellas human beings. Dr. B.RBazaya, Senior Scientist andIncharge AICRP-WeedManagement highlighted toxiceffect to animals while grazingfrom parthenium infested

areas. Dr. Rakesh Sharma,Senior Scientist (AgriculturalExtension) KVK Jammuinformed the participants thatpartheniumcan only be man-aged by mobilising the societyfor group action. Dr. PunitChoudhary Sr ScientistAgroforestry emphasised oncultural practices to mange thisweed.

STATE TIMES NEWS POONCH/RAJOURI: Army conducted 'BasicMountaineering Course' for ten boys belonging toremote areas of Poonch and Rajouri Districtfrom 25 Jul to 21 Aug 18. The course was con-ducted under the aegis of Jawahar Institute of

Mountaineering and Winter Sports,Sonamarg (J&K). Apart from basic moun-taineering skills the specials training wasimparted to enhance their skills in rockclimbing, rappelling, abseiling, rope craftand snow craft.

The course was attended by 80 partici-pants hailing from other parts of the coun-try which gave these boys an exposure toadventure tourism industry. The interac-tion with the participants from other partsof the country also enhanced their confi-dence and increased their awareness. Thisbeing a recognised course, the youth wereprovided a certificate of specialization ontermination of the course.

On being flagged in at Keri all partici-pants were exuberant while sharing theirexperiences of past four weeks with their

relatives and friends. They thanked the army for organising such a

unique event which apart from giving them anexposure of mountaineering skills providedopportunity to visit beautiful and scenic placesaround Pahalgam.

STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: DistrictDevelopment Commissioner,Sushma Chauhan chaired ameeting of District LevelReview Committee (DLRC)for the quarter ended June2018 to review the perform-ance of banks in respect ofachievements under AnnualCredit Plan 2018-19 besidestaking stock of position ofDeposits, Advances and CDRatio.

The DDC entrusted uponthe concerned functionaries toincrease the CD ratio bydeveloping better coordina-tion and cooperation betweenmajor banks and governmentdepartments.

She further asked the ChiefAgriculture officer for ensur-ing 100 per cent coverage ofKCC in co-ordinations withbankers.

The DDC stressed on theneed of holding FinancialLiteracy camps in collabora-tion with Banks and govern-ment departments under inti-mation to chairperson on reg-ular basis and further askedthe banks to utilize these

camps for creating awarenessamong the people about thefinancial literacy, PMEGP,housing for all, PradhanMantri Mudra Yojna, 100 percent coverage under KCCs,Prime Minister's New SocialSecurity Schemes, PardhanMantri Fasal Bima Yojanaand other such schemes.

The DDC asked the officialsto draft an inclusive strategyto support and motivate thenew entrepreneurs and guidethem towards a financialviable business opportunities.

"Efforts need to be made toboost the small scale indus-tries in the district", sheadded.

The DDC further askedLead Bank to prepare a cal-

endar for organising productspecific camps like FinancialInclusion, Housing LoanMelas, Education fairs,MSME seminars and manhalike to spread awarenessamong specific target groups.

The meeting also had adetailed review of all the gov-ernment sponsored schemeswith special focus on PMEGPSchemes.

The DDC further stressedon evaluation of banks onscoring model.

She advised the sponsoringagencies to educate educated,motivated and facilitatedmore people to undertake selfemployment activities.

The other officers whoattended the meeting wereCPO, LDO RBI, DDMNABARD,Cluster head,District Coordinators of JKBank, PNB, JKGB, EDB,and representatives otherBanks and concerned officersfrom various governmentdepartments.

STATE TIMES NEWS KATRA: The School ofPhysics at Shri Mata VaishnoDevi University (SMVDU)Katra, organised an expertlecture by Prof. P. K Sen onthe topic titled, 'Lasers andS e m i c o n d u c t o rNanaphotonics'. Prof. Sen,HoD, Applied Physics atSGSITS, Indore is an emi-nent academician who hasmore than 150 publishedresearch papers in his credit.

Furthermore, the professorhas guided twenty two PhDcandidates in various fields ofPhysics. During the talk,Prof. Sen discussed the

aspects of the fabrication andapplication of nanostructuresand devices that help tounderstand or harness andutilise the behaviour of light.The wise physicist has deliv-ered more than 50 invitedtalks across and outside Indiaon topics, such as LaserPhysics, Nonlinear Optics,

Semiconductor Nano-Technology, and alike. Theinteractive talk was attendedby the faculty members andresearch students. Prof. A. K.Sharma, HoD, Physics atSMVDU presented a vote ofthanks to Prof. Sen for spar-ing the valuable time and forthe words of wisdom.

POONCH : Army celebrated'World Senior Citizen Day' atDaraba, Youth Centre,Jeran Wali Gali (JWG),Mendhar, Jhullas,Thanamandi, Keri and GovtMiddle School, Relan inPoonch and RajouriDistricts.

The aim of the event was toprovide an opportunity torecognise and appreciate thecontribution of senior citi-zens towards nation build-ing, upliftment of the societyand spread awareness of ini-tiatives by the central andstate Govt for the welfare ofsenior citizens.

A large number of peopleattended the event. Seniorcitizens shared their views onthe subject. The localswhole-heartedly thankedarmy for this event.

STATE TIMES NEWSPOONCH: DistrictDevelopment Commissi-oner,Rahul Yadav on Tuesday visit-ed Tehsil Mandi to inspect thedevelopmental works andarrangements made for theupcoming festivals of Eid-ul-Azha and Charri Mubarakh.

Tehsildar Zaheer Raina, NaibTehsildar Abid Hussain, DSPHQ Nawaz and others blockofficers of concerned depart-ments. While inspecting thearrangements of Shri BudhaAmarnath Yatra, the DDCasked the concerned officers toput in place all arrangementsto ensure smooth pilgrimage.

He also visited the stalls putup by the Horticulture andHandloom Department.

During his visit, the DDCinspected various ongoingdevelopmental works anddirected for their time boundcompletion while ensuringquality. The DDC also inter-acted with the locals and gavea patient hearing to theissues and demands put forthby them pertaining to con-struction of toilet nearEidgah, power and watersupply, traffic congestion in

market area and other devel-opmental needs. The DDCassured them that all theirgenuine issues will be lookedinto.Rahul Yadav also directedthe concerned BDOs to iden-tify a village in their respec-tive blocks that can be devel-oped as 'Cashless Village'.The DDC was speaking at ameeting held here. The meet-ing was attended by ACDMukhtyar Ahmed Sheikh,Lead District Manager J&KBank Poonch, DPOs, BDOsand other concerned offi-cials.

The DDC asked the con-cerned officers that theprocess of developing cash-less village shall be carriedforward as per the directionsof Principal SecretaryFinance.

KISHTWAR:As per schedule issued by the Chief ElectoralOfficer J&K, the First level checking of M1 Electronic VotingMachine, which would be used in the forthcoming MunicipalElection 2018,has been conducted by the BEL (BharatElectronics Limited) engineer under the supervision ofTehsildar( Election) Shoket Hayat Matoo, designated officerand representatives of District Election Office Kishtwar inthe premises of ITI Kishtwar. Representatives of all recog-nized political parties participated in the programme and themock poll and other related formalities have also been con-ducted as per guidelines of Election Commission India.
