Meanwhile, The Advance alsolearned, the retraction of the useof Masury Point land for spoilarea was a key factor in thelack of spoil area acreage avail-able for the Forge River dredg-ing project. This land, which hadreceived spoils from the dredg-ing of Senix Creek several yearsago , was first offered , but theoffe r was withdrawn because ofthe mud content of the ForgeRiver spoils.

However, the future appearsbrighter this week that the ForgeRiver project will soon be putout to bids, and additional spoilarea made available

on the community, one of thepublishers said last week: "Wefeel we have accomplished some-thing. We talked about the streetlights in our third issue, andthey are now up."

Michael authored the GossipSheet feature of the Bulletin. The Gossip Sheet discussed thehappenings in the area , as thisexpert will show: "The testi-monial dinner that was given toJohn Ragamatta , "Man of theTown," was a great success. The President of the MasticTaxpayers Association, Mr.Tho-mas Dooley, did an Aria froman opera , with an opera singer,to the tune o f ' BillBalley won'tyou please come home.' It wasquite funny."

Dennis also handled the fea-ture, Laugh Along with Dennis.A sample follows: "Why don'tyou like girls , Joe? Joe-Becausethey re too biased. J im-Biased?What do yem mean by that? J oe-It's bias this and bias that untilI'm broke."

The Editorial Page of the Bul-letin was the combined effort ofall three publishers. Concerningpolitics, just prior to the elec-tion , they commented: * Sincethe publishers of this Newspaperare all under age to vote for thecandidate we think should get intooffice , we here at the paper hopethe best men win ,' Followingthe election the . applauded theirtownspeople with the followingcomment: "We here at the paperwould like to congratulate theciti/ens of our town and manyothers for the way they all gotout and voted ,"

The Bulletin staff containedone other member, whose trueidentity iS a closely guardedsecret. This member was Simonwho authored an advice to thelovelorn feature entitled ' Tellit to Simon." Simon answeredmany questions coming from the

heart , but perhaps the most mas-terful response to a query wasthe following : "Question - Agirl on the bus want s to kiss me.What should I do' signed Hand-some." To which Simon A nswer-ed: "I thin k you should tell herto la . off or tell your mother."

Tht real test of any publica-tion l . .t _. response to any em-ergence The Bulletin was facedsuch an emergency and met withthe true .nark of the dedicatedprc _ .--an "Lxtra."

The emergency was an ac-cident which took place in theirneighborhood. Feeling that theyowed their faithful readers theaccount of news as it happened, the> published the extra with thefollowing discription of the mis-hap.

"An accident took place on theintersection of Hawthorne andMoriches Avenue, Our star re-porters Michael and Dennis Blutewere walking along MorichesAvenue when all of a sudden theyheard a loud noise. They ran inthe direction of the noise , andwhen we got there there was 2cars on the side of the roadsmashed up. After inquiring theyfound out all the facts" The storythen gave some pertinent facts asto the reason for the accident. The Story added: One of our starreporters interviewed the lady

in the house next to the crash ,and when we asked what shethought when she heardthecra shshe said she thought her kitchenstove blew up."

The star reporters of the pub-lication took steps to preventany problems w ith the hbel law s.Whenever they interviewed thosethey interviewed, they made ita point to have the person signtheir notes 'to make sure theycouldn 't back out of the state-ments later."

The Bulletin , which had a nor-mal circulation of about 40 read-ers who paid five cents an issuefor the weekly publication, show-ed a profit from its advertisingdepartment during its short spa nof existence. The profit , a nickelcame from the following classi-fied ad: "There is a car for saleon Patchogue Avenue , Ma stic.If you would like to inquire tele-phone. -" Wedo not pub-lish the telephone number herefeeling sure that the powerfulpublication has already reapedresults for the advertiser.

While the Mastic [Bulletin hasceased to exist , all hope is notlost. Evidently smitten by the"printers ink " of the publish-ing field , the youngsters havevowed to resume their effortssoon. Perhaps the Bulletin willserve the community basis on amonthly basis, they report , atleast until school is out again ,so that they may again serve thecommunity.
