The central idea of my concentration started as the progression and evolution of food coloring as it moved through water. After looking through the images of the coloring, I started to develop an overall idea. This idea evolved throughout this process into a “jellyfish” themed series of works as a design.
My work started as simply observing the way drops of food coloring moved and changed through water. There were around forty images that I took throughout this experiment with color. After I finished and looked through the photos I noticed a common resemblance to an abstract jellyfish.
This resemblance was very vague at first, but as I turned image two into image four, the result resembled a Rorschach test portraying two jellyfish. Without alteration, image five looked like a school of jellyfish. Images six through eight resulted in image nine, and after adding the word “jellyfish,” I began to appreciate the word by itself. I continued with this jellyfish thought process with pieces ten and eleven. After creating those pieces I finished with the simple design of just the word on piece twelve.
