LibraryThing is a cataloging and social networking site for book lovers.

Connects people on the books they share.

Shelfari.com  allows you to “create a virtual shelf to show off your books, see what your friends are reading .”

Usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks.
