The PAGB ‘GB Cup – Nature’ competition was held on Saturday. This is a National competition where the
standard would be very high. We finished 43rd out of the 96 clubs entered with a score of 119 – tying with
Cheltenham Camera Club in the same position. It was very close in the middle region as only 2 points
separated the 20th and 43rd positions – I feel this was a pretty good result.
Well done to everyone whose images were entered - especially to Duncan Locke who had our highest score
of the day with 14 for his wonderful ‘White tailed Eagle’ and Bob Tunstall who had 2 images scoring 13.
21 images were submitted and scored, but only the 10 highest scores counted towards our final score of 119.
Worcestershire Camera Club – PAGB Nature Cup – Individual Scores
NB: The Open section of the GB Cup was run on Sunday so these results will be in next week’s WCC News.
Advance notice:-On the subject of External competitions – the Midland Counties Photographic Federation will be holding
their ‘Print & Projected Image club championship’ on April 16th at Braunstone. This club will be entering
both sections - so we will again be asking you to help us get together the best entry possible.
It is possible to get tickets to attend this MCPF meeting. This kind of competition is vastly different to a club
competition so for anyone whose work is being entered and has not attended one of these sessions it might
be of interest to you.
Anyone interested – please let me know.

Your Club Needs You!
Our club has an enviable reputation for producing excellent nature images and the Annual Nature competi-
tion is one of the season’s highlights. Last year, there were 57 PDIs and 40 prints entered into the competition
that was held on a very enjoyable evening. Today, we are half way
through the hand-in period for this season’s Nature competition
and with just 10 days to go, we have rather fewer!
This is to remind you that there are
just 2 more opportunities remaining
to submit prints, on Tuesday 16 and
Tuesday 23 February at the regular
club meetings.
Competitions are an important part of club life and it would be very disappoint-
ing if the number of entries for this prestigious competition did not increase
substantially.
Should you have a query about entering this competition please contact Eric
at [email protected] or contact Clive at any time.
Here’s a reminder from the Rules - why not browse your archives and see what you have to enter?
Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and thewide diversity of natural phenomena. Photographs of animals, which are domesticated, and photographs of
cultivated or hybrid plants are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as
barn owls or storks adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal
waves, reclaiming it. Any manipulation or modification must be limited to minor retouching and must not alter the
truth of the original scene.

Members’ NewsSunday was the last day of Max’s exhibition at the Hive. Unforeseen circumstances meant a slightly early
take-down of the exhibition at midday, so if you didn’t manage to get along before then you can still make a
donation here.

Beginners’ Online Photography Course Digital photography: creating and sharing better images
Registration for the next (March 2016) OU/RPS 10-week online course closes 19th February. It will re-run in October this year and March 2017 - registration is already open for those courses.
Successful completion of the course will lead to the award of the RPS Certificate in Photography. The
certificate is free to members of The Society who have completed the course and for a small fee to
non-members. Members will also be entitled to attend a free Distinctions Advisory Day. There are also
membership reductions/benefits.
Stewart and I took a previous incarnation of the course in 2009 (when it was just an OU course, T189)
and found it to be extremely interesting, very helpful as a pre-LRPS discipline and a good balance
between the art and science of photography.
The assignment & assessment are very manageable and not too scary! We really enjoyed it and would
recommend it. It also gave us both the confidence to put in for our LRPS. Sadly the price has gone up in
the meantime but it is a high-quality course - I still go back to re-read some of the materials. Do ask us
if you are interested in finding out more about our experience of the online course.
For full course details and prospectus, see the OU site.
The T189 module in week 3 on exposure & low light photography made
me learn quite a bit about night shots. We were on holiday at the time but
the homework was fun despite the wet weather!
This was about my first ever half-way decent night shot not taken on auto
settings and where the outcome was pretty much exactly as I envisaged. I
was very proud of myself, even though lying in the gutter!
