Certification: Myths
Myth #1: Companies do business with women and minority businesses to get a tax break.
Fact: Companies want their supplier base to mirror their customer base and set spend goals accordingly. Spend is only dictated if a government contract is involved.
Myth #2: My certification means I will get picked over other non‐minority businesses.
Fact: Certification is a marketing tool not a guaranteeFact: Certification is a marketing tool, not a guarantee.
Myth #3: Since I am a certified WBE and listed in WBENCLink buyers will call me automatically.
Fact: You still need to market your business. You tend to get out of certification what you put into it.
