It's really easy to put scratches in your car with the wrong wash

method.

Page 3: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

And that's not good. Because scratches look bad and kill shine.

Page 4: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

And you don't wash a car to make it look worse.

Introducing: The Two-Bucket Wash Method.

Page 6: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

Oddly enough.. You'll need Two- Buckets.

Just like these ones.

The Shampoo Bucket is filled with car wash and water. The Rinse Bucket is just filled with water.

Page 7: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

And you'll need a Wash Mitt

Like this one.

Page 8: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

Microfiber Wash Mitts work best. Most automotive accessory

retailers sell them. Don't use a sponge as it can trap dirt on the

outer layer and become a sanding block.

Once you've assembled your items you can begin. Start with a

high-pressure rinse.

Page 10: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

In all steps work from the top down. The top is usually the cleanest and the bottom and

sides the dirtiest.

Don't be lazy on the rinse. It's the best way to remove stuff sitting

on the paint without applying too much force.

Once rinsed we can start washing. Break the vehicle into

sections and wash one at a time.

Once you've washed a section – say, the roof. Wring out your mitt

in the second (water filled) bucket.

Page 14: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

The idea is that any dirt that the wash mitt has picked up from a

section will fall into the rinse bucket.

Page 15: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

So when you re-load the mitt in the shampoo bucket to do the next section, it should be nice

and free from nasties that could scratch your paint.

Page 16: Wash Your Car - Avoid Scratches. The Two-Bucket Wash Method

Keep washing section by section, wringing out the mitt in the rinse

bucket after each section. Reloading the mitt with shampoo

before you start again.

Rinse the shampoo off the car in the same fashion (top down) as

your initial rinse.

Chamois dry or Microfiber dry – top down. Use either of these damp – or else they too can

scratch.
