Greetings Brothers and
Sisters, it is a pleasure and honor
to serve our Order as your 2019-
2020 Grand Master. Thank you
for your trust and confidence in
me. I originally heard about the
Odd Fellows from my father-in-
law Duane Fox, he was a very
active Odd Fellow who was the
first to pitch in when help was needed. As noted at
Grand Lodge, I am a firm believer in teamwork. Every
Odd Fellow is an integral part of the team, your input
and new ideas are always welcome to help the team
grow and succeed. During this year's sessions we
tackled many issues resulting in productive ideas. I am
confident the major issue at the Holgate Center is being
addressed well by the team of Executive Director Dane
Jensen, our Chief Financial Officer and the Holgate
board of directors. The Holgate staff has been
outstanding working together to set us on a positive path
during this transition. As we start the new orbit around
the sun, it is important that all our lodges and members
be unified teams to make the best even better. In closing
I encourage all of us to focus on my theme, “tradition
with energy”. Let's have our good works come out of
the shadows and let the sun shine on all that we do.

Wow! It is time for me to
write my first article as
President. I wish to start off by
thanking my Rebekah Sisters
and Brothers for their vote of
confidence in electing me to this
position. I also want to take this
opportunity to give a BIG Thank
you to my Officers, District
Deputy Presidents and new Committee members for
accepting their positions. I look forward to working with
all of you this year.
The first item on my agenda this year is the All
Committee meeting being held on June 15th at 9:00 am at
the Grand Lodge Office. It is very important that
committee members attend this meeting, especially if you
are new to a committee. Please RSVP your attendance to
Grand Lodge so there is an accurate count for lunch.
I also want to remind everyone of the opportunity to
meet the new officers at Jesse T. Jones Park in Florence
the weekend after the 4th of July. We will be serving a
pancake breakfast to raise funds for the park. Prior to the
Parade on Saturday there will be a flag ceremony
performed by Canton No.1 of Portland and Canton No.14
of Hillsboro. This is just one of the many activities
planned for the weekend. I hope to see many of you
there!
Once again. thank you for giving me the honor and
opportunity to serve as your President. I will strive to do
my very best and look forward to working with all of
you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact
me.

Brothers and Sisters,
We had very productive
Grand Lodge sessions in Seaside
a few weeks ago. I had a
wonderful time with Sovereign
Grand Master Doug Pittman and
his lovely wife Mira. Thank you
for visiting our sessions Brother
Doug.
We passed several Bills at the sessions as follows:
Bill No. 1. This Bill aligns the Pilgrimage for Youth
Committee Guidelines to coincide with Sovereign Grand
Lodge Code.
Bill No. 2. This Bill increases the Grand Lodge sessions
registration fees to $25.00 for pre-registration and
$35.00 for late registration. The late registration cut-off
date is to be established by the Statewide Meeting
Committee and will be posted on the registration form in
advance. Please note that there are some exceptions to
the late fees as provided in the Grand Lodge By-Laws.
The Co-Chairmen of the Statewide Meeting Committee
have the right to waive the late fees for replacement
Representatives or Delegates and out of state visitors
only. All Odd Fellows and Rebekahs registered to attend
the sessions of the other units of the Order shall be
required to pay the Grand Lodge late registration fee.
Bill No. 3. This Bill was to amend the JJYC’s guidelines
defining how expenses are to be submitted to the Grand
Secretary for reimbursement. Costs for travel or
activities not set in the criteria must be requested in
writing to JJYC 60 days in advance.
Bill No. 4. This Bill was a complete rewrite for the
Oregon Eye Committee Guidelines. It structures how the
process starts and finishes.
Congratulations Gordon Corda on your election as
our new Grand Master. Congratulations Lloyd Fries on
your election as our new Deputy Grand Master. Please
welcome our new Grand Warden Stephen Craig. Brother
Stephen is from Farmers Lodge No. 49. Congratulations
Stephen on your election as our new Grand Warden.
Please send all new By-Law changes to Brother
Stephen. Rich Smith was elected back onto the 5 year
position as our Grand Lodge Board of Trustees.
Congratulations Brother Rich.

Hello to all of my Sisters and
Brothers,
I hope everyone that was able to
attend our session in Seaside had a
wonderful time. It was a busy and
informative session. I also enjoyed
getting to see members I have not
seen for a while. Friendships
renewed and new friendships made, adds special
meaning to our sessions.
For lodges that had secretaries at Assembly, you have
your per capita dues notices and life membership
interest checks in your packet. For lodges that were
unable to have their secretaries at Assembly I have
mailed your per capita notices, life membership checks
and secretary packets. Your per capita dues are due this
month.
June is a time when most lodges get ready to recess
for the summer. Remember to check in with each other
over the summer so that you keep up on how your
members are doing and if they need help.
Remember to get registered for IARA Sessions
which are in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this year.
Also, don’t forget to submit your Living Legacy, Drug
Prevention, Community Service and Scholarship
information to SGL so that you can receive the
certificates you have earned.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve
as your Secretary. I promise to do my very best and look
forward to working with all of you.

Hello everybody,
Theta Rho Assembly is
quickly approaching, and it has
been a lot of fun to be able to
serve the Theta Rho Girls of both
Washington and Oregon in this
way. It has been a little bit
stressful, but I would not take
back a single thing if I could.
This past month has been a little bit crazy. First I
was able to go to Theta Rho Retreat, along with two
other girls from my club. Twelve girls attended, and we
had a lot of fun playing games and doing community
service. We were also able to practice for Theta Rho
Assembly next month. All of the Theta Rho Girls,
myself included, would like to thank the Rebekahs and
Odd Fellows in Olympia for allowing us to use the park
every year in exchange for community service which we
are happy to do. I was also able to go to the Holland
Happenings Parade in Oak Harbor as my official visit to
Acorn No. 79. It was so much fun having a sleep-over
the night before the parade, and then getting to
participate in the parade was something I had never
done before. I would like to thank the Rebekah lodge
that sponsors Acorn for allowing us to use your lodge
hall for our sleep-over.
During May I was also able to go to The Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier to participate in, and watch the laying
of the wreaths. It was something I had waited for all
year, and it was a genuine highlight for me. It was also
an extraordinary experience for me, to see the Changing
of the Guard, something I wrote a paper on for the
Honors Program, but had never had the opportunity to
see. My Gramms made it possible for me to go, and
also made sure I got to see all the museums, memorials,
and monuments we could. I thank all the people who
helped make this event possible and my Gramms for
making it possible for me to go.
I hope that you all have a pleasant end to the school
year, and are able to make it to our Theta Rho Sessions
in June!
In Happiness Through Service,
Bethany Struthers, President,
Theta Rho Assembly of Washington
I thank the Grand
Encampment and members for
electing me as Grand
Patriarch, I hope to work with
all of you to make this a great
year for the Encampment.
Past Grand Patriarch, Lisa
Corda, will be a hard act to follow, she set a great
example and worked hard for all of us.
This year we are going to continue the sock hop and
see by how much we can top the 1,200 pairs of socks that
were donated this year. If you missed the news, Paran
Encampment won the contest with a total of over 600
pairs of socks donated and Ruth Canby won the drawing
which was a $75.00 prize. All Encampments can start
now collecting socks, remember those black Friday sales,
Fred’s sock sale anyone?
On Labor Day weekend we will have a BBQ Chicken
and Ribs cooked by our Grand Secretary Ron Kunze.
Make your Reservation now at Jesse T Jones for this fun
time.
I’m taking this as an opportunity to share my
Program:
Emblem: Razor or Sand Rail
Objective: Increasing membership to build stronger
Encampment because A Strong Encampment
is a Fun Encampment.
Motto: A Grain of Sand is insignificant but in your
eye it feels like a boulder.
Goal: Make everyone you meet a friend and invite
them into the Order.
Flower: Red Rose in Honor of my wife Liz.
Colors: Purple and Gold, Encampment Colors.
Songs: Live Like You Were Dying by Tim McGraw
This Land is Your Land
Patriotic: God Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood
Scripture: The Lords Prayer
Projects: Jesse T Jones Maintenance Fund
Morand Scholarship Fund & Eta Theta Rho
Again, I thank you all for electing me and to all who
are serving as my Officers.

Good Day everyone, I am repeating the information
that we posted on Facebook and sent in emails to make
sure everyone is notified of the current ruling by the Park
Board. On May 01, 2019 the Jesse T. Jones Park Board
met, and in the interest of, and for the Good of the Order
rescinded their decision of April 27, 2019 to change the
guest rule at Jesse T. Jones Park. The Park is for all Odd
Fellow and Rebekah members in good standing, therefore
the original rule stands that a guest may attend two times
total and then must become a member before returning to
the park. Please remember to call us Before you come,
with any additional guests or extra vehicles so we can
keep check-in a smooth and enjoyable process. We will
keep posting events and information on Facebook to keep
you updated. There will be a barrel here at the office to
collect donations of helmets and goggles for the Salem
Sand Club to use for the rides for Foster care children and
their families. The event is in September so you can bring
them anytime this summer. We need all sizes from kids
through adults.
In FL&T Mary
Salem Sand Club and RZR Pro are putting on an event
for foster children September 21st 9-6 at Jesse T Jones
Park. It’s called Dominate the Dunes NW. We are giving
the foster families a day out in the sand in Side by Sides.
We are looking for volunteers who would be willing
to drive their side by side, take these kids out on the sand
and give them a day of fun. We also need volunteers
who would like to help out at base camp with the kids
who are too young to go out, and we need help with
lunch and dinner. We’re also looking for sponsors. If
you can’t be there that day but would like to help, you
can be a sponsor. If you know someone else who would
like to be a sponsor please let us know. For more
information or a form to sign up please contact Bev
Stubbs Email: bstubbs639@ aol.com or call 503-851-
4833.
Starting Memorial Day weekend there will be a
Barrel in the Pavilion for donations of good used
helmets, goggles and gloves of all sizes, so if you have
any you no longer need please bring them when you
come to the park to camp and put them in the barrel.
Thank you,
Bev Stubbs
We hope to see you over the 4th of July weekend at
the park. On Saturday we will have a parade and our 1st
Annual Flag Raising Ceremony, 12 noon at the pavillion.
Lots of other fun events, and of course our Grand Master
and President will be cooking their fundraiser pancake
breakfast for everyone.

Shamrock members installed our new officers:
Edith Brown- Noble Grand, Joyce Steiner- Vice Grand,
Janie Long -Secretary, and Inez Kennedy-Treasurer
In January we celebrated Thomas Wildey who
nurtured Odd Fellowship. March was the Birthday of
Brother Schuyler Colfax. We celebrated the founder of
our Rebekah Degree.
The charter was draped for PP Mavis Paul and
Delora Compton We shall miss them.
April we attended and were welcomed to Cosmos
Area Annual Meeting held at the Holgate Center with
Chairman Robert Worthington from Rose City. We
enjoyed the meeting and friendships and visiting with
members of other lodges. It is always a joy to hear from
our Rebekah Assembly President.
A couple of shamrock members were in the Teddy
Bear parade held in Oregon City, where donated toys
are given to children in hospitals or to other charitable
groups.
For Lodges that close for the summer, we want to
wish you a great vacation time and we will see you in
September.
Janice
Rose City No. 170 opened the lodge meeting, with
the Portland Canton No. 1 presenting the flag. Rose
City officers surrendered their chairs to the Cosmos
officers.
The address of welcome was given by Chairman
Robert Worthington and the response by Janice Straub.
Janie Long presented a tribute to Past Area Chairmen
with a beautiful reading.
After lunch Charles Cloud gave a wonderful talk
from "Ministries for Homeless". He reported Portland
has the biggest homeless population with 50% women
and children. He told how a donated sleeping bag can
save a life. Everyone can help to make a difference.
Janice Straub and Joyce Steiner offered a memorial
tribute for members lost during the year. With a
reading, white flowers and a song.
Nomination of 2020 Cosmos officers. Chairman Janice
Straub No. 113, Vice Chairman Kim Walter No.
170, Treasurer Inez Kennedy, ( 2 year term ),
Secretary Flo Leis ( last year term)
Several lodges were represented with 26 members
present.
Rebekah Assembly President Denice Meeuwsen's,
question and answer time was interesting with lots of
questions answered and we learned a lot of our ritual
and common sense. This was the President’s last area
meeting. She thanked all lodges for the courtesies
extended to her.
A fun raffle with cards for prizes was a nice break in
the meeting. A skit with 2 dogs and a cat was enjoyed
by all.
The meeting was well organized. Rose City Officers
took their chairs and the Noble Grand closed the
meeting.
Joyce Steiner and Janice Straub
At the May 2018 session of the Grand Lodge in
Seaside there was a by-law amendment passed so that
money can be donated by lodges or individuals to
supplement the amount earned from interest on the
principal of the Morand Investment Fund.
Because of a downturn in investment earnings over
the last several years funds available for scholarships
were greatly reduced. To help remedy this problem a
By-Law amendment was passed in 2018 to create a
new way to donate funds for current year scholarships.
Anyone can now add to the funds available for the
current year by making a check payable to the Grand
Lodge of Oregon with a note in the memo line “2019
scholarship account”. Remember, October - January
request the scholarship packet from the Grand Lodge
Office.
