The Life Of Young Walt…Walt was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 5, 1901, one of 5 children.Young Walt had a very early interest in drawing and art.

Besides his other interests, Walt attended Mckinley high School in Chicago.

Also interested in Acting and performing.

Walt Disney tried to join the army but he was too young. So, he lied to the Red Cross about his age and they sent him overseas where e he drove an ambulance, which he had covered in cartoon characters.

Beginning Of A Legacy……. He wanted to pursue a career in commercial art, which soon lead to his experiments in animation.

Disney- A risk taker.

His talents were used in a silent cartoon entitled Plane crazy.

Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in Steamboat Willie, the world’s first synchronized sound cartoon , which premiered at the Colony Theatre in New York.

Disney was an Innovator- i.e., his drive to perfect art of animation was endless.

Walt got his first academy awards in 1932 for the production entitled Flowers and Trees.

In 1937.Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the 1st full-length animated musical feature was premiered. The film produced at the cost of $499,000 during the depths of the depression!

During the next 5 years , Disney Studios completed full-length animated classics such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo & Bambi.

Walt wanted Diversification. In the late 1940s, Disney began sketching ideas for a theme park.Walt Disney’s dream of clean, and organized amusement park came true, as Disneyland park opened in 1955.

Walt Disney failures……..Hoping to find work outside the Chicago

O-Zell factory, in 1919 Walt moved back to Kansas City to begin his artistic career

He met a fellow artist by the name of Ubbe Iwerks

This was in 1920 and the company was known as Iwerks-Disney

Unfortunately the business got off to a rough start and soon had to be closed.

His next job led him into the field of animation

Soon Walt Disney was ready for his next attempt at building his own studio.

The one would be known as the Laugh O Gram Studio. The name came from a series of cartoons that Walt Disney was producing for a local Kansas City theatre operator. And it was nearly a success too.

Walt Disney's inability to handle money would be his downfall this time around. And so after the company went bankrupt.

But Walt Disney wasn’t finished there… Walt Disney packed up his bags and

moved to Hollywood, California. This time around Walt would team up with his brother Roy O. Disney.

And so the Disney Brother's Studio was born. And it started off with a hit. Known as the Alice Comedies the studio began to turn out a number of short films based around the story Alice in Wonderland.

Walt had made the mistake of selling the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to its distributor. …….

They would turn out to be very successful and would lead to another character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Walt Disney though had one final bump in the road before becoming ultimately successful.

After what had happened to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Walt Disney found his studio in need of a replacement character. And so Mickey Mouse was born And millions of children can get a hug each year from a big furry mouse

Cal Arts•Disney devoted substantial time to funding The California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts). Formed in 1961 through a merger of the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and the Chou nard Art Institute, which had helped in the training of the animation staff during the 1930s.• He donated 38 acres (0.154 km2) of the Golden Oaks ranch in Valencia for construction of the school. Cal Arts moved onto the Valencia campus in 1972.•when Disney died, one-fourth of his estate went to Cal Arts, which helped in building its campus. In his will, Disney paved the way for the creation of several charitable trusts which included one for the California Institute of the Arts and other for the Disney Foundation

Walt Disney Family MuseumIn 2009, the Walt Disney Family Museum opened in the Presidio of San Francisco. Thousands of artifacts from Disney's life and career are on display, including 248 awards that he received.
