Australian Nurse Registration:
If you have already gained your nurseregistration by passing the PRCBoard Examinations or other over-
seas nursing registrations, you are al-ready in a good position to embark onone of the adaptation pathways to ob-taining registration as a nurse in Austral-ia and starting work.
Australia is made up of six States andtwo territories:-
States:Queensland (Brisbane)New South Wales (Sydney)Victoria (Melbourne)South Australia (Adelaide)Western Australia (Perth)Tasmania (Hobart)
Territories:Australian Capital Territory(Canberra – the Capital )Northern Territory (Darwin)
Each of these states and territories hasa respective Nursing and MidwiferyCouncil (NMC) and all are under the
“umbrella” of the Australian Nursing andMidwifery Council (ANMC).
Each state and territory have their ownrespective pathway to gaining registra-tion as a nurse in Australia and eachpathway has particular advantages anddisadvantages.
We have done the hard work and re-search for you and have selected threeof the best adaptation courses availablein Australia.
Australia has been experiencing a critical nurse shortagefor many years and needs qualified nurses fromoverseas.
The nurse shortage has become more drastic by Australia’sageing population. On one side, there are more aged peoplerequiring hospital treatment and retiring to aged care
homes than ever - and on the other side, Australia’s existingnursing workforce are also retiring. It is estimated that betweennow and 2011, there will be 90,000 less nurses in Australia dueto retirements.
What does this mean for overseas nurses considering a newcareer in Australia?
For the Australian nursing profession, there is now more thanever, an unprecedented number of nursing vacancies to be filledby overseas nurses and several pathways to Permanentresidency as an actively working nurse.
Overseas nurses can apply directly from their home country forPermanent residency and their visas can be processed by theAustralian government typically within 9 months.
Nine months is still a relatively long time when a nurse is eagerto start their career in Australia. The alternative is to becomesponsored by an Australian employer for a long-term (4-year)work visa, which means an Australia-registered nurse can startwork here within about 6 weeks after finding a job. Once thenurse starts an Australian job, they can then start theirpermanent residency application while they work.
Before all this begins, though, an overseas nurse first needs toprove their nursing competency by Australian testing methods.Vostek works closely with the bodies that define and run thesecompetency and training programs and we guide nurses throughthe right process for them individually.

Registered Nurses are highly valued andrespected in Australia and the demand isincreasing. But why go to Australia instead ofAmerica or the United Kingdom?
Nurses are highly valued and respected thereforeVisa processing times are quick:
The processing time for an Australian work visa canbe really quick – 6 weeks. This is much faster thanthe process of obtaining a similar work visa forAmerica or the United Kingdom. Nurses receivepriority processing for all visa types in Australia.
Obtaining permanent residency as a nurse is alsomuch quicker than most countries. This is becauseas of January 2009 The minister for Immigration inhis “Order of Consideration” added Nurses to theCritical Shortage List (CSL) therefore permanentresidency can be achieved generally in less than 12months. Furthermore, those nurses on temporarywork visas in Australia who decide to getpermanent residency through the employer areprioritised even more; We managed to getpermanent residency for one nurse in less that 8weeks!
Age is less of an issue:
For more experienced nurses over the age of 45 -yes, there are pathways to gaining paidemployment and permanent residency as aregistered nurse and include immediatedependant family members and spouse.
Once permanent residency is achieved, there arealso pathways to help other family members, suchas Aunts, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters, nephews andnieces achieve permanent residency in Australia. There are even pathways to assist aged parentsachieve a new life in Australia.
