Page 1: VersaPOD - Server Swing-Arms

Product Brief:

Server-mounted swing arms are a common solution for cablemanagement in data center enclosures. But they actuallycause more problems than they solve. They have limited ca-pacity and when overfilled, can keep cabinet doors fromclosing. This not only looks awful, but the inability to closeand lock a cabinet can be a serious security issue.

But the biggest swing arm issue is their effect on cooling. They route cable horizontally across the equipment, blockingexhaust fans and spaces critical to proper hot aisle/coldaisle airflow. Proponents may argue that they are neededwhen sliding the servers out, but the majority of server fail-ures require the server to removed from the swing arm any-way.

Swing arms are not needed with the VersaPOD.

By routing cords and cable directly into Zero-U vertical patchpanels or cable management channels instead of throughswing arms mounted right in front the equipment, you dra-matically reduce airflow disruption in the horizontal cabinetspace. As the panels mount vertically (copper and fiber) ca-bles are very easy to dress in server to server. Plus, you getgreater cable capacity, simpler cable management and amuch better looking installation.
