SNOFLAKEby DEBBIE SUTTONThe Perfect Blend
Debbie Sutton is the Toronto-based designer behind snoflake, an emerging contemporary women’s bou-tique line. The snoflake brand provides the perfect blend of quality, great tailoring, feminine detailing, and inspired flourishes. All snoflake garments are designed and manufactured exclusively in Canada.
After graduating from Toronto’s International Acad-emy of Fashion Merchandising and Design, Sut-ton gained extensive work experience in the fash-ion world. Debbie worked as an assistant fashion designer, a fashion merchandiser, a fashion stylist and as a cutter and key team-member with a suc-cessful Canadian bridal designer. While working in bridal fashions, Sutton got the itch for more cre-ative challenges and launched her own line in 2000.
Since then, Sutton has developed a strong clientèle of young, urban professional women and has con-sistently enjoyed an enthusiastic response to her line.

Ekaterina Koroleva
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi, my name is Ekaterina Korol-eva. I am a russian illustrator and graphic designer living and working in Berlin. My family moved to Berlin in 1985 and I grew up in the eastern part of the city and got to know the bright side of life.
How old were you when you cre-ated your first illustration?
I cannot remember the exact mo-ment but I used to draw on my legs, when I was sitting on the chamber pot at the age of 2.One day my mother left me in the living room with a pencil and I start-ed to scribble on our yellow couch.I used to paint a lot and I realized very early that it has to become my profession.
What things have you learned about your craft since then?
I have learned that I have to use paper instead of furniture.
What inspires your style of illustra-tion?I am obsessed with drawing skinny, affected women or faces and creat-ing special moods. The style of photography in the 50´s/60´s has a very inspiring visual appeal, especially fashion photogra-phy and magazines. The aesthetic aspect is an important visual component in my work on the one hand, and on the other I like funny characters and creatures.I am influenced by artists like Klimt and Egon Schiele. I love street art and its funny approach. I like art-ists like McBess, Lars Henkel, The Musa Collective, Rinzen and a lot more...
Formal training?
I have studied graphic design, made my graduation but I decided to concentrate my work on illustration as I got bored with designing business cards etc.I started to take lessons in different art schools at the age of 14 besides school.During this time I got to know a lot of painting techniques but nevertheless I fell in love with pencils and watercolor, as you can still see in my artwork today.
Plans for the future?
Work a lot on different projects with different artists combin-ing illustration with photography, product design and other crafts.

“The Caribbean island of Tobago... it’s almost akin to a swinging sa-rong, flowing lazily in the breeze, without a care in the world except to just hang around enjoying the idyllic scene. If ever you’ve looked for that secluded stretch of sand that you could have all to your-self, this place is it! The bays are perfectly carved alcoves of blue crystalline water and the food as fresh as a fish pulled out of the sea. And lest I forget to mention the cool beach reggae, steel-pan bands and limbo fiestas that will have you and your love ‘limin’ faster than you can say “yeahhh mon...”
