Chapter marks 90 years
Yet much remains
same after nine
decades of Upsilon When the chapter was fi
founded way back in May 1921, thUnited States was only a few year
removed from the First World WarThe Cubs World Series drought wanot yet in triple digits. There was nointerstate highway system, much lesan information superhighway, andman had yet to journey into space.
A lot has changed since then. Ocourse, the chapter has had its upand downs over the years. But, still iendures, ninety years later, today astrong as it ever was. Generation after generation has found somethingof value in the Ritual that binds us.

CHAMPAIGN - The UpsilonChapter of Pi Kappa Phi can traceits roots to an animal hide.
Known as Gamma Kappa Sig-ma, the chapters original charter isnow kept safe in the University Ar-chives. It remains the only knownevidence of Upsilons origins. After
several years, the members decidedthey wanted to be part of a nationalorganization and joined the ranksof Pi Kappa Phi as its 20th chapter.
Since then, Upsilon has calledmany places home. There was ahouse on Green Street, on FirstStreet, and several others beforeending up at Gregory and Euclid.
The chapter has been large andsmall. Its been strong and weak.
At times, it didnt even exist on theUniversity of Illinois campus.
With the refounding in 2005,
the members decided to be Fra-ternity Redefined - a reaffirmationof the fraternitys original mission, but something different that it hadbeen for many years.
Even now, the chapter is chang-ing. With more than 80 activemembers, the chapter is larger thanthose men could have imagined.
Of course, it will continue tochange. Presumably, for decades.
Change is only constant through history

Pi Kapps will return toArlington for third year
The annual event at Arlington Parks Miller Lite party deck has be-come an anticipated event for many alumni.
Each of us can point to a broth-er or event that cemented thatbond in our individual experienc-es, but our love of Pi Kappa Phi
has nothing to do with any oneperson or thing. It runs deeperthan words can explain, the resultof our choice to commit ourselvesto this Fraternity and the sum ofall our time spent as brothers.
And no matter how difficultthings appeared, regardless of
what troubles we faced as a chap-ter or in our individual lives, thisindescribable bond of affection
would continue to spark the prideof brotherhood and offer us thestrength of friendship. It has been
a beacon for young men yearningto be part of something greaterthan themselves, and remained arock we can rely on throughoutour lives.
English writer G.K. Chester-
ton once remarked that men didnot love Rome because she wasgreat. She was great because theyhad loved her.
I think this can be said of mostgreat things, and our chapterslong history is no exception. Solet the affection we share for ourbrotherhood inspire generationsto come, and heres to anotherninety years!
Gene Giannotta, Y1030Alumni Chapter President
Through 90 years on campus atthe University of Illinois, I thinkUpsilon chapter has proven thatnothing is truer than the monikerthat adorns the Pi Kappa Phi coat of
arms. Admittedly, we have had a fewslips through the years, but lookingin the past at a world war, great de-pression, cold war, and more, Upsi-
lon chapter has endured producingmen of CLASS in the University ofIllinois Community.
Upsilon is a mainstay on the Il-linois campus, and the bonds of
brotherhood are very deep at 306 E.Gregory Drive. The issue that facesall Pi Kapps, though, is what hap-pens when we graduate and move on
to the real world.Do not let either years or distance
tear us apart. You have all taken awonderful step by joining togetherto celebrate our 90th Anniversary,
but do not let it end here. Find anold brother and give him a call, jointhe undergraduates for a homecom-ing celebration, or maybe attend a
National Chapter meeting. Brotherhood is such a special relationshipthat all of us share. Though schedules get tight, and work life mighcall, do your part to not let our
brotherhood get torn apart.
