What do Fifth Century B.C. Pythagoreans have in common
with modern state-of-the art cosmologists & physicists? In
a word: strings! For the ancient Greek Pythagoreans it
was the lyre string; modern scientists postulate infinitesi-
mally small strings as the ultimate building blocks of the
universe.
The Greeks found that the tone of a plucked lyre string
corresponded to its length. Changing the length of the
vibrating string changed the tone in a precise way; double
the length and the tone goes down by a full octave; re-
duce the length by two-thirds, the note changes by a fifth.
The laws of music and harmonics are discovered and re-
duced to mathematics. The Pythagoreans believe every-
thing is based on music and math.
The Pythagoreans extended this thinking in attempt to
explain the entire universe. They partially succeeded but
ultimately failed in their attempts.
Modern scientists now feel that they have the theory-of-
everything , based on incredibly small strings. These vi-
brating strings are the fundamental unit of all matter and
energy. When a string vibrates in a certain way, an elec-
tron results; change the vibration of this same string and
another particle appears - the electron changes into a
neutrino. As with the plucked lyre, it is the string that is
fundamental; the tone (in the musical example) or the
subatomic particle, arise from the way that the string is
vibrating.
Modern string theory also had its roots in mathematics.
The proposed strings are far too small to ever view direct-
ly. Their existence was slowly recognized as the theory of
strings solved formerly impossible problems in physics.
The beauty of the theory is that we eliminate the numer-
ous "fundamental" particles that exist today and unite the
formerly conflicting theories of Einstein & the Quantum
theory. We potentially have a real theory-of-everything.
Same as the Pythagoreans sought thousands of years ago.
There is another group, growing in popularity today, that
The Universe as a
Symphony of Strings

share an important link with the ancients & scientists of
today, Vibratory Healers. The string is the primary ele-
ment with our first two groups, but it is the vibration,
more precisely vibrational energy, that modern Alterna-
tive Healers utilize to produce wondrous results.
Vibrational energy has been found to be extremely versa-
tile and effective, in its benefits to living things; why is
this? The form of the energy - vibrations - seems to be
easily absorbed; frequencies are available for almost any
need - in the exact amount of energy required. The spec-
trum of vibratory frequencies is immense, offering precise
and selective remedies to tune all elements of the Holistic
Being... Body, Mind & Soul.
Vibratory Energy of the right frequencies has shown the
ability to greatly accelerate the growth and resistance to
disease and pests of many plants. "Melodies" of frequen-
cies derived from plant DNA was studied by French physi-
cist, Joel Sternheimer, and found to consistently produce
accelerated plant growth.
Certain Sound Healing practioners have achieved impres-
sive results "tuning" individuals with the use of unique
tuning forks (Hulse). For example, a tuning fork that emits
a single frequency would be placed on the spine, or on
key meridians to help loosen subtle energy, or alleviate
back pain. Tones, rhythms and harmonics have been asso-
ciated with chakra clearing, allowing vital subtle energy to
enter our systems, producing health and vitality.
Modern Masters, many of them Indian Swamijs and Sufi
masters are descendants of a long tradition that use
sound to build moral and spiritual development. The mas-
ter, Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji, does healing
concerts where modern day miracles are reportedly per-
formed. Many ancient spiritual masters held sound as the
most powerful means of achieving & influencing the di-
vine (similar to the Pythagorean tradition above).
Sharry Edwards has spent a lifetime demonstrating that
the voiceprint of a human voice is a window on the under-
lying physical and emotional wellbeing of its owner. Ed-
wards has learned to read and correct imbalances in the
human voice - all with vibratory energy - restoring health
in the process. In Edwards BioAcoustics, frequencies can
be used in place of physical substances, such as vitamins,
muscles and so on. These frequency equivalents are non-
invasive packets of energy that can selectively restore
missing balance to the unharmonious soul. The circle is
complete when the restored frequencies are once more
present in a new voiceprint recording.
The author has studied the vibratory modalities of the
Bach Soul Flower remedies and of facial skin and muscle
rejuvenation potentials. These seemingly very different
aspects of nature are linked and made available or tuned
and revitalized by the use of the appropriate sound ener-
gies.
Cousto learned to interpret the motions of the planets
and stars into Star Tones, powerful forces for using and
understanding Astrological Energies. He played the music
of the Stars - literally!
Fibonacci tones mirror patterns found throughout nature
and the cosmic realm. This set of frequencies is revealed
in every aspect of creation, including the human body.
The ancients believed that tuning to this pattern not only
harmonized their souls and bodies, but connected them
July/August 2014—Page 5
to the divine. The Solfeggio tones are mysteriously encod-
ed in the Bible. In history and modern times each tone is
reported to have its own healing benefit, such as one fre-
quency used to repair DNA in scientific settings.
Different scales with related note-pitches also have been
touted to produce a variety of healing impacts. Scales
such as the Pythagorean and Just intonation are created
with different methods than those used in our current
musical scale. Different vibratory patterns are associated
with different impacts on the body.
Through the ages the idea of a vibrating string has been
used again-and-again to help thinkers better understand
the universe around us - and to gain insight into unseen
mysteries - be that super-submicroscopic strings or the
workings of the human body and the chakras... Einstein
had it right, matter IS energy, all is vibration, everything is
One, all can be shown to be the same - and we will evolve
out of matter - and one day, all is united in the divine.

East meets West Wellness is about balance in all things. Just as the Tai Chi symbol of yin and yang illustrates the delicate balance of energy: light and dark, male and female, hot and cold. It shows us that there is a constant relationship between extremes. This is where perspective is born.
Eastern and Western perspective is very different. As an individual who has been on a personal journey toward wellness since my teens I have found that the two comple-ment one another amidst the extremes.
Western perspective is more dogmatic and linear; A hap-pens… you have choices… B or C.
Eastern perspective is more receptive; A happens… you have choices … D, E, F, G, & H.
When you blend the two as you approach your path to wellness, something amazing happens… the possibilities and combinations available now have multiplied one an-other and you have choices. A thru Z.
You are complex. Your life is complex. Your journey is sim-ple…. Breathe and listen… possibilities surround you that you had no idea would work because you weren’t listening to them.
Let me share an example. In the past, fairly recent past I might add, if you were sad and depressed (A) you had two options (B) suffer in silence so that you did not rock the boat. Or (C) get on some serious meds to blot out your emotional pain. There is nothing wrong with medications, if you need them. But now you see we have A to Z: Mas-sage, movement, breath, talk therapy, guided imagery, energy work, aromatherapy, shamanic work… You get the idea. The solution for you may be more complex and sometimes a synergy of several modalities is in order.
You are unique and the modalities that will bring you back into balance are unique and limitless. We will explore those possibilities here. So Lets begin with A. Aromathera-py.
In the west we have a limited understanding of Aroma-therapy. We think: ok, Aroma, smell. So what? In Europe, Asia and Canada it is actually a modality offered by physi-cians. It is not that way here in the US. We have certifica-tions galore but no governing body. That can be both good and bad.
First of all, there is no regulation. Bad: lots of people use essential oils without knowing the first thing about them. They purchase them, and when a miracle doesn’t happen they are disappointed. Reactions happen because of im-proper use. This has a lot to do with the quality of the oil and lack of understanding of proper usage and contraindi-cations. You can be allergic to anything you know! So take some classes with someone you trust. Learn a few things and then play.
Secondly, Good: because of the lack of regulation you are free to choose which oils work best in your specific situa-tion. This is where the fun begins. Experimentation. There are quite a few guides out there, Wormwood, Tisserand, Davis. But there are others based in Eastern medicine and the meridians also, Willmont, and of course, the materia medica of essential oils both of which explore them in eastern practice, movement of chi thru the meridians and such. Very interesting stuff. So, in my next article we will really get into the nitty gritty of essential oils and how to use them properly. After that, the possibilities are endless.

W ith everything we do in life, there is a cost of doing it or not doing it. Too often that cost is accompanied with a dollar sign $$$. Too often
it is the money that stops us from moving forward with a dream, even if that dream is one from our childhood, even if that dream could really change our lives!
It is like we are grasping at windmills and never realizing our potential because of the financial uncertainty that we imagine out there waiting for us if we were to be brave and move in the direction of being amazing. The question “What is stopping you?” is often asked, and our answer many times is “I can’t afford it.”
It is very sad. So, why be sad when you can begin to erase your limits.
So, let’s get moving in the direction of your dream.
Your first step is to go into your bathroom and look your-self straight in the eye in the bathroom mirror. Depend-ing who you are and where you are with your self-esteem, this could take a few tries to be successful with it. Look at yourself.
The second step is to accept yourself for who you see in the mirror. Stop comparing yourself to others.
OK, now talk to yourself, talk to the image in the mirror, begin to share your dream out loud with you. Talk to yourself about your dream; talk about Why You Cannot Create Your Dream. Accept that conversation as Your Lim-iting Beliefs and then Move Beyond Your Limited Beliefs to admit what you would gain if your dream came true.
If you are stuck with what the gain would be, consider the following:
A shift in your relationship with abundance and
prosperity!
Happiness!
Passion!
Energy!
Attitude!
Life!
It is time for you and your partner in the mirror to create your life the way you dream it could be.
Ok, now you can think about the money part. You can do this…
Claim your dream, Claim Your Passion, Your Calling (whatever you want to call it!). Begin to translate it into your life today.
How can you do this?
Create the plan to Create the Cash Flow to be Personally Sustainable!
It takes time to carve a spot in your current life —mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially — to al-low your dream into your reality and to become personal-ly joyful and financially stable!
Oh yes, the MONEY factor. You cannot forget the money, but you can make the plan that will allow you to begin working toward giving yourself one of the most important things you will ever give yourself, hope.
Your dream is hope! Hold onto the dream, share the dream with the image in the mirror, begin to create the financial plan, one penny or one dollar at a time, to give yourself your dream.
And, yes, you will have your moments of doubt. That is when you must “take your flying leap of faith” to believe in your dream, to believe in yourself, to believe that you

More good news…. no, make that GREAT NEWS
about Hemp.
Welcome to part 2 of my series on the positive attributes
of hemp or cannabis. To continue last issue’s good news
discussion about hemp’s enormous ecological contribu-
tions to the earth, reference (http://
universallivingezine.com/ULEdownload.html) we will fo-
cus on hemp’s numerous health benefits. Many of you
out there are chuckling to yourselves and thinking, “Yeah,
yeah, I know the health benefits -- it makes you FEEL
GOOD.” Yesss, it does, but you may be surprised to learn
that the genesis plant, hemp, works in many more pro-
found ways than just getting you high.
What you are associating with cannabis is the THC,
(tetrahydrocannibindiol) constituent which although the
most notorious, is not the whole story. THC is just one of
the 60 plus cannabinoids found in the cannabis family of
which marijuana and hemp both belong. THC is the com-
pound that brings the euphoric effects that we associate
with recreational marijuana. It is believed to have some
health benefits as well, but they are mostly overshad-
owed by the more obvious and well known psychoactive
properties as portrayed by those lovable 60’s icons,
Cheech and Chong.
If you are consuming CBD rich hemp oil, you will not get
high because there is negligible THC, but you may get
healthy.
CBD is an acronym for Cannabidiol, a plentiful naturally
occurring cannabinoid also found in the plant genus Can-
nabis Sativa L. Cannabinoids are a class of diverse chemi-
cal compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors located
on the cells in our body. Along with a nervous, circulatory
and digestive system, our bodies include an endocanna-
binoid system and use CBD’s to maintain and regulate
healthy cell function. Actually, I was surprised to learn
that CBD’s are found in mother’s milk and we continue to
produce CBD in our systems to feed our receptors, but as
we age, the production slows down. It turns out that we,
as humans are hardwired for CBD, and indeed, the FDA
and most government health organizations around the
world recognize CBD as a nutritional substance. There-
fore, unlike medical marijuana, CBD oil from the industrial
hemp plant, is legally available in all 50 states.
Since the 1970’s there exist at least 1100 documented
clinical studies of CBD with absolutely amazing results.
Don Abrams M.D. at UCSF says the studies point to "a
remarkable ability of CBD to arrest cancer cell division,
cell migration, metastasis, and invasiveness." The vast
impact of the endocannabinoid system on human health
explains and validates anecdotal reports of cannabis used
effectively for a wide range of health conditions. The list
of impacted diseases and pathologies is growing and im-
pressive as hemp is becoming more available to study.
So, what does this mean for us? Researchers have been

able to show in clinical studies that CBD or cannabidiol:
Helps relieve seizures
Has strong antioxidant properties
Reduces inflammation
Stops or reverses cell damage
Eases anxiety and lowers blood pressure
Induces cell death in certain cancers
Do you know anyone who has had cancer or anxiety?
These disorders are devastating families every day and to
think that there is a simple treatment that respects the
body is absolutely breathtaking. Why isn’t it on the 6
o’clock news? If you are one who believes in natural and
holistic treatment of the human body, you will understand
the importance of supplying the body with optimum
sources of vital nutrients. You will want to choose reme-
dies based on building up the body and supplying what it
needs as opposed to ingesting toxic and dangerous chemi-
cals made in a lab to manipulate certain physical systems
and leaving a trail of unwanted and disastrous side effects.
The evidence is growing that CBD rich hemp oil is one of
nature’s most potent and versatile contributors to homeo-
stasis or balance in the body. A state of homeostasis is
necessary to facilitate the body’s healing mechanisms.
Safe and natural cannabis has been used for thousands of
years as a medicine and was listed in the US pharmacope-
ia until the 1930’s when it became victim to the reigning
corporate cabal. Although, some medical marijuana advo-
cates believe in the benefits of THC, more and more re-
search is pointing to CBD as the real superstar of health
benefits. It is a crime that when Congress outlawed recre-
ational marijuana that it closed the door on all hemp pro-
duction for medicinal as well as industrial uses. Thankful-
ly, the key is turning to unlock the door of this unneces-
sary prohibition against such a useful and lifesaving plant
as more and more states move to once again welcome
CBD rich, industrial hemp back into good standing.
If you would like to engage in some fascinating learning,
check out the many videos on YouTube about CBD. There
is nothing like the personal testimony of parents whose
epileptic child has been rescued from seizures with the
use of CBD rich hemp oil. Perhaps one of the most power-
ful is of Dr. Sanja Gupta of CNN fame who produced a 2
part series investigating the benefits of medical marijuana
and his change of heart concerning this controversial
plant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrVXRZY1_x0.
It seems that we still have much to learn about how our
bodies function in the modern world. Time honored, nat-
ural and life sustaining remedies from nature are still
some of the most successful and efficient methods for
attaining and maintaining abundant health. Check this PDF

Summer is upon us after a long harsh winter and chances
are that your dog is just as eager to get outside and enjoy
the sunshine as you are! If you have pets who venture
outdoors on hikes through the Metroparks or even short
strolls through the neighborhood, it is time to start think-
ing about flea and tick prevention. For some of you, this
means purchasing a chemical flea/tick preventative from
your veterinarian or from a local store. But, just as the
over-use of antibiotics has led to strains of bacteria that
are resistant to many of the antibiotics in the medical ar-
senal, the persistent use of pesticides has created fleas
that are immune to the effects of nearly every chemical
(spot on treatment) on the market. So, what can you do?
Fortunately, there is good news! In the past few years,
many new, safer, natural alternatives have hit the market
and you now have many options to keep your pets safe
from pesky fleas and ticks this year.
Here are some steps that you can take to
keep your pet and your home flea-free all
Summer long.
Add a garlic based supplement to change the odor and
taste of your pet’s blood chemistry from sweet to bitter.
You could take it a step further and add herbal drops to
their food every day as well. This makes your pet’s skin
less appealing to flying pests but the odor is mild enough
to go undetected by people. One example is Earth Ani-
mal’s Natural Flea and Tick Prevention Program, which
you can find at small, independent stores and online at
www.earthanimal.com.
July/August Issue—Page 12
Keeping Fleas &
Ticks at Bay
The Natural Pet
There are many organic,
herbal bug sprays on the
market now. Just spritz
your pet before heading
out the door to repel
bugs. It doesn’t get
much easier than that!
An example brand would be Mercola’s Natural Flea and
Tick Defense, which you can purchase online.
Natural flea collars made with essential oils such as citron-
ella and cedarwood deter bugs and are a safe alternative
to old fashioned chemical collars. There are many brands
such as Only Natural Pet among others. These are a safe
alternative to the old fashioned collars made of chemicals
that can cause neurological damage in a pet and pose a
dangerous risk to children or those with weakened im-
mune systems.
Topical flea control drops made of essential oils are a saf-
er alternative to the chemical treatments that contain
toxins, which are becoming less effective than in the past.
One brand is Sentry Natural Defense, which you squeeze
between the shoulder blades of your dog. It repels fleas,
ticks, and mosquitos for up to four weeks and is safe to
use around children.
Flea and Tick tags such as Shoo!Tag Flea and Tick Barrier
are chemical free, safe and a good alternative for pets
who are super-sensitive, even to natural essential oils.
Simply attach them to your pet’s collar. This product uses
electromagnetic frequencies to keep pests at bay and are
odor free and last up to four months.
Beneficial Nematodes are microscopic organisms that can
be sprayed onto your lawn using a garden hose. They de-
stroy flea larvae and other pests that live beneath the soil
without posing a threat to plants, animals or humans. An
example of a brand you can purchase online is Fleabusters
Nematodes.
To head off a potential infestation before it starts, the dai-
ly use of a flea comb is essential. If you do find fleas on
your pet, there are natural alternatives to eliminate them
such as food grade diatomaceous earth and natural flea
shampoos.
You can find most of the products mentioned above at
your local holistic pet store. There are several in the area
and they offer helpful advice on the use of their products.
When using natural alternatives to chemical products, it
may be most effective to combine several of the options
listed above for maximum protection.
Flea bite dermatitis is the most common allergy in dogs
and cats. It can be very painful for your pet and difficult
for you to determine the cause of your pet’s itchiness and
other symptoms. If your pet is exhibiting signs of aller-
gies, it is imperative to determine the cause. Otherwise,
you will continue to treat the symptoms indefinitely and
they will very likely intensify.
Don’t let bugs keep you indoors
this summer. With a little bit of
preparation, you can keep
yourself and your pet safe
whether you are hiking through
the woods or strolling down
the sidewalk. Summer is short in Cleveland and sunny
days are precious!

WHAT ARE FLOWER ESSENCES?
Flower essences are dilute extracts of various types of flow-
ers and plants that are used to treat animals and people.
They are similar to homeopathic remedies and herbal reme-
dies and like homeopathic remedies they are diluted and
potentized to make them more effective than just using the
original flower as a herbal extract. The person who first de-
veloped the original flower remedies was Dr. Edward Bach, a
famous English physician. He developed the Bach Flower
Remedies when he was working as a homeopathic practi-
tioner and devoted the last years of his life to researching
and developing his remedies, from 1930 onwards. He want-
ed to find a simpler form of treatment that would not re-
quire anything to be destroyed or altered.
Dr. Bach believed that diseases of the body come about as a
result of imbalances or negativity at the level of the soul,
and by correcting the problem here healing would result and
the body would heal on all levels. The flower remedies act to
balance inharmonies in the emotional and spiritual body,
and bring about a gentle healing by bringing the body back
in balance with itself. They act almost a catalysts to cause
healing. There were originally thirty eight Bach Flower Rem-
edies that at that time Dr. Bach felt would correct all imbal-
ances that were possible. There are remedies such as Holly
which he found would heal the state of anger, and open the
heart, and remedies that deal with a variety of other emo-
tions from lack of confidence to over enthusiasm and impa-
tience.
Animals respond just as well to Bach Flower remedies as
people, and seem to have similar emotional imbalances that
can be corrected with the appropriate remedy. The flowers
are gathered from nature when they are just at the point of
perfection and it is important that the flowers are free from
any toxins and preservatives. The remedies are made by
leaving the flower out in the sun and the extracted essence
is then diluted in water and preserved with alcohol to make

a mother tincture. The resulting remedy is then diluted in
spring water to make a solution that can be taken by an ani-
mal or a person.
Subsequent to Bach’s work other Flower Essence Societies
have been formed and remedies have been developed that
are appropriate to that particular area, or the times we are
living in. The most important of these are the California
Flower Essences that are developed from native American
plants in the Sierra Nevada foothills in California. The Flower
Essence Society has developed an extensive research pro-
gram and been very important in helping people understand
and use Flower Remedies as a healing tool.
BACH FLOWER REMEDIES
As mentioned above the first flower remedies were the Bach
Flower Remedies and there are thirty eight of these, which
are used to treat a lot of different problems in both people
and animals. These are a great place to start and to study to
get familiar with the Flower essences and you can really
treat almost every condition with these alone. Each essence
treats a particular imbalance and they can be used alone or
in combination depending what the problem is. It is often
more effective to use a single essence, as this is more fo-
cused. It is possible to use more, but the maximum recom-
mended number of remedies to combine is seven, and it is
best to use as few as possible for maximum results.
One well chosen flower remedy will be more powerful in its
action. In practice three or four related remedies seem to
work well together for example, a combination might be
made up for treating fear composed of the following three
Bach Flower Remedies. Mimulus may be used for fear of
known causes, Aspen for groundless fears, Rock Rose for
acute fear or panic. Together these three remedies will cov-
er most aspects of fear, and will act as a good general fear
remedy. If the fear was due to some trauma that had hap-
pened in the past then another remedy called Star of Bethle-
hem may be considered, as this helps release any shock and
trauma from the body, however long ago it took place.
The most useful Bach Flower Remedy of all is actually a com-
bination of five other remedies that act synergistically to
calm stress and fear. This is wonderful any time there is
shock, stress or trauma. It is an invaluable addition to the
first aid kit that any pet owner would find useful. It can be
safely used before visiting the vet office or after any kind of
injury. It will often revive animals that are in shock and help
in their journey to the vet and subsequent recovery, though
it is obviously not a replacement for immediate veterinary
care. It has definitely saved many animals and is totally safe.
The five remedies are Star of Bethlehem for trauma and
numbness, Clematis for being grounded and to prevent pass-
ing out, Rock Rose for panic, Impatiens for tension and irrita-
bility and Cherry Plum to prevent losing control. Basically
four drops of the stock bottle are added to a one ounce glass
dropper bottle of spring water and shaken up. It is best to
make this up immediately before use as the mixture will not
keep too long. Three or four drops of the mixture can be
given into the mouth or onto the gums every five minutes
until a response is seen. Rescue Remedy can also be given in
the water during any time of stress and in this case it is best
to use ten drops every time the water is changed.
Rescue Remedy and the other thirty eight remedies are
available in most good health food stores. They are very val-
uable healing essences and well worth using. The other rem-
edies can be prepared by adding two drops of each remedy
that is indicated into a one ounce dropper bottle, and adding
spring water, and a
dropper or two of a
preservative such
as brandy or apple
cider vinegar. For
people alcohol is
used as a preserva-
tive but I find in
small animals like
rabbits it is best to
use plain spring
water. Four drops
can be given on the
gums four times daily, for about six to eight weeks to
achieve the desired effect.
CALIFORNIA ESSENCES
The California Flower Essences, known as quintessentials,
are made by the Flower Essence Society in the Sierra Nevada
foothills in California. The non-profit organization was
formed by Patricia Kaminski and Richard Katz and is very
scientifically based. They have an extensive practitioner re-
search program and are continually researching new flower
essences. The Society has three purposes which are the re-
search into therapeutic uses of the flower essences, training
and certification programs and communication and referrals

between people and practitioners interested in flower reme-
dies.
FES makes a large number of different essences and several
are worth mentioning individually. There is a Special Yarrow
Formula that is effective in protecting both people and ani-
mals against harmful environmental influences, such as radi-
ation, pollution, electromagnetic radiation, for example
from computers. This also protects against negative emo-
tions that can affect health and well-being. Animals and chil-
dren are particularly sensitive to picking up the emotions
and moods of the people around them and this formula
helps to prevent this. Emotional stress in animals, picked up
from the family, can manifest as psychological stress such as
inappropriate urination, feather plucking or chewing on
themselves, and this formula can often help in these situa-
tions.
Bleeding heart is another very useful flower reme-
dy that as it suggests helps heal the heart. It is in-
valuable after any kind of grief, such as the loss of
a family member or other pet, for both the people
and animals suffering the loss. It can be used for a
female animal after her puppies or kittens leave to
other homes, or after a divorce or separation,
where animals are affected just as much as people to the
stresses and painful emotions. Chamomile is useful, as is the
herb (which is often made as a tea) for calming the emotions
and soothing irritable and fractious animals, and is especially
useful for younger pets and children, when they are teething
and tend to be restless and cranky.
There are numerous other California Essences which are
useful too, for specific emotional problems and they can be
combined most successfully with Bach Flower Remedies or
other essences. One essence that works well on the physical
body is Garlic, and this helps to repel fleas, and does not
have any of the other effects of garlic, including the odor,
some animals are sensitive to garlic as a herb, and it should
not be used in too large dosages, and the flower essence
garlic offers a safe and effective alternative, which can be
used on a daily basis, and helps to enhance the function of
the immune system.
OTHER FLOWER REMEDIES
There are several other excellent sources of Flower Reme-
dies. The first of these are made by Perelandra Flower Es-
sences. Perelandra is a wonderful place of nature, founded
by Machaelle Small Wright. They grow their own flowers
and make essences. The Perelandra essences work deeply
and at a more spiritual level and are useful for deep seated
emotional problems. Some essences help with the physical
body such as Celery which restores balance to the immune
system when it is stressed or overworked, and during long-
term viral or bacterial infections, tomato also helps the body
in throwing off infection or disease.
Green Hope Farm are another extensive source of Flower
Remedies, in the USA. In addition to many single essences
they also have various special formulations including some
developed specifically for animals, including ones for flea
relief, called Flee Free, and one for emergency animal care.
These are very useful general essences for the pet owner to
keep at hand, and they seem to have the most extensive
range of animal essences, so are well worth looking into fur-
ther.
Australian Bush Essences is an excellent company
based, as the name suggests, in Australia, They have
a range of essences from that country, which has
very different flora and fauna to the United States.
Some people believe that the essences made near
to where you live are more effective, for people and
animals living there, and it certainly makes sense to use the
flowers that are growing locally, and take the gifts which
they offer. The Bush Flower Essences have fifty well re-
searched flower essences that were developed by a naturo-
path from Australia, named Ian White, from plants growing
wild and free in the beautiful Australian bush, which is still a
relatively unadulterated wilderness.
Spirit-In-Nature Essences are the oldest essences outside UK.
They are a wonderful range of 20 essences that address a lot
of modern issues, such as success and achievement. They
can be extrapolated for animals, for example the remedy for
assuredness and success would suit an animal that was used
in the show ring, or a horse that was required to race or
achieve certain goals. Often is is useful for an animal and a
person to take flower remedies at the same time, and some-
times the same remedy is indicated, as animals tend to take
on the emotions and stresses of their human companions.
There are many essences available to choose from and the
only way to find out which is best is by reading and research-
ing or even better by consulting a qualified flower essence
practitioner.

USES OF FLOWER REMEDIES
As described above, flower remedies and essences have
many and varied uses, but act mainly on the higher emotion-
al levels. The body is affected very much by the emotions
and the mind, and by healing at a deeper level flower reme-
dies can shift illnesses, either alone, or more often in combi-
nation with other forms of treatment. For example, skin
problems may manifest in animals during times of anxiety
and stress, such as when a new pet or a human baby, enters
the household. The physical symptoms may be due to jeal-
ousy, anger, resentment, loneliness or other emotions, but
by careful questioning an idea of what may be going on can
be determined and a remedy mixture made up to address
the root cause of the problem. In the meantime the skin
may also need to be treated, but the end results with ad-
dressing the issue at both these levels are much better than
merely treating the skin alone.
Flower remedies can help a lot with behavioral problems,
such as biting and aggression. It is important to combine the
remedy with training and behavior modification, and both
these approaches are enhanced by the use of flower reme-
dies. Fear, which is a common problem in animals, also can
be helped by suitable remedies, and a combination of Res-
cue Remedy and the fear remedies mentioned above will
often help in situations such as fear of thunderstorms, or
general lack of confidence. Animals that have been rescued
or abused in the past often benefit wonderfully from the use
of appropriate flower essences, and they can help to restore
their confidence and build trust.
Rescue Remedy, combined with the homeopathic reme-
dy Aconite makes a wonderful calming essence that can be
used on wild animals, and for rehabilitation, as mentioned
above it works well on any kind of stress or fear situation
and definitely helps with survival rate in these situations. A
few drops of the combined essence on the gums or even
onto the ear of the rescued animal will calm them down and
make them easier to handle. It can even be sprayed onto the
skin or ears with a spray bottle and will still have a beneficial
effect. A dropper of the combination can be put in the daily
water for rescued animals to help them withstand the stress
of captivity, and make them more manageable.
Other problem pets such as animals that tend to wander
away from home, cats that urinate and defecate all over the
house, animals that suffer from separation anxiety can all
benefit from flower remedies, and their problems can be
improved. It depends on the situation, often if the change
will be permanent, some problems are related to other ani-
mals in the household, such as territorial behavior, and this
may persist as long as another cat is present. Nevertheless
appropriate flower essences can help alleviate and resolve
many of these situations, again combined most effectively
with behavior modification and possible changes to the liv-
ing environment.

What was I thinking?
I f you are reading this ezine, you have probably
heard along the way that we choose our lives.
We choose mom, dad, siblings, friends and soul
mates who will help us learn the lessons we most
want to accomplish in this lifetime. So this is not a
need…It is something that looks important to each of
us from the “other side” and certainly would not be
the same for any two of us.
Some of us choose to accept physical challenges.
Others choose to be wealthy and experience the joy
of sharing without the ego of power and … vice ver-
sa. Some choose homelessness to discover the pow-
er within or lack of it to take care of the physical
needs.
It is all good; no matter the choice. It is all good.
So, I ask myself in this writing, “What in the world
was I thinking when I chose this segment of my life?”
Somehow, I always knew, that my challenges on
earth would not be physical, they would be emotion-
al. (Maybe I am intuitive…)
These past two years have been an emotional hell to
test the all of my being. Earlier in my life, I was mar-
ried and divorced. I had three children and remar-
ried a man with three children.
Raising 6 teenagers was a daily trauma. One child
brought us face to face with a judge and a $250,000
lawsuit. One was raped at the age of 10 and terrified
to share the story until she was 18. So for 8 years we
would angst over this child and her pain and emo-
tional problems. Then there were the variety of nor-
mal stresses associated with growing up, dating,
driving, etc. etc.
For me, moving up in the corporate world and then
being fired also showed its ugly face on the emotion-
al “let’s live this lesson scale”. Making lots of money
and learning to live on far less became a new world
of choices.
But, none of these things prepared my emotional be-
ing for the experiences of the last 24 months.
The last two years have been filled with watching
death. First the devastating blow of watching my son
die of brain cancer has my heart still grieving.
Now, watching and waiting for my ailing, 97 year old
mother to let go and move into her transition is for-
mulating a new world of wonder around death. This
is taking emotional challenge to a new high on my

Taking care of an elder with dementia increasing
daily presents dimensions of challenge I could have
never considered. I know I am and will not be a
nurse in this lifetime. God bless them all for their
service. It is not in my DNA; yet, I planned this.
Each day is a struggle for my husband and daughter
and I. Sometimes there are things so funny, we can-
not help but laugh and play along. Other time it is so
frustrating I become angry with my God for allowing
it. Then there are the times is just plain sad.
So, I ask myself after 5 months of this new challenge,
“What was I thinking”? What did I want to learn? Or,
is it just a lesson I must live? Am I wrong to feel sor-
ry for myself, my husband and daughter and my
mom too? I have so many questions and no real an-
swers.
And the angels say….Just be who you are.
We are here to live life. When we make our way to
the other side; we will see if we progressed to our
own satisfaction. Maybe it is enough to have the
questions. Maybe we choose these challenges just to
FEEL all the emotions that go with them; to feel all
the good and bad of each challenge.
Maybe this is the clear truth of the quest. What do
you think?

The Power
to Heal In the age of holistic practice and holistic medicine, the
key idea is to help heal patients’ diseases and injuries, the
whole person must be treated and not just a concentra-
tion of the treatment of the immediate sickness symp-
toms or obvious injury. Patients’ lifestyles, states of mind,
emotional conditions, stress levels, and other health en-
hancing or health reducing aspects of their lives are now,
more than ever, taken into consideration in a healing regi-
men.
One of the most effective and widely used of the new
healing modalities is Quantum-Touch. Quantum-Touch is
a natural, energy healing technique; some nurses use it
within patient care, many massage therapists use it with
their clients. Quantum-Touch works the life force energy
(or as referred to in China, “chi,” as referred to in India,
“prana,” and in Japan it is called “Ki”). This energy is un-
derstood to sustain all living creatures and is shared in a
divine matrix of life. The study of and utilization of Quan-
tum-Touch teaches how to focus, amplify, and direct this
life force energy. It is based upon the practitioner raising
his or hers own energy vibrations, and allowing the re-
ceiver‘s energy level to rise to meet that same level. This
is known as entrainment.
Standard medical practice in mainstream medicine con-
centrates on the practitioner’s ability to diagnose an ill-
ness, and then to treat it by various standard methods.
These methods typically include medication, therapy or
surgery. The emphasis in traditional mainstream medicine
is that the relationship between the practitioner (the
medical doctor or the nurse practitioner) and the patient
consists of the practitioner’s direct action upon the condi-
tion for which the patient has sought treatment; it treats
the specific symptoms. The difference with Quantum-
Touch is that the practitioner is not healing the client; the
practitioner’s use of Quantum-Touch is providing a path-
way for the client’s body to heal itself. The practice and
use of Quantum-Touch is completely based upon the prin-
ciple that the body wants to be healed and can heal itself.
Richard Gordon is the founder of Quantum-Touch and
continues to share his knowledge. He is always spreading
the word around the globe and making inroads to edu-
cate the “standard” medical community.
Through Quantum-Touch, the practitioner is taught the
concept of “body intelligence”: the body knows how to
bring itself back to 100 percent wholeness given the prop-
er conditions. Quantum-Touch does not claim to treat or
heal specific conditions; the effectiveness of Quantum-
Touch is based on an individual’s ability to heal and re-
sults will vary. Ultimately if the body can, it will heal itself
and Quantum-Touch is said to accelerate that process.

Health and Spirituality by Judith Orloff, MD
We are the keepers of our own healing. We are keepers of
an intuitive intelligence so powerful it can tell us how to
heal. The time has come for each of us to claim it again. Nev-
er forget: It is your right to heal. It is your right to look inside
yourself for the answers. We are on the vanguard of a health
care revolution as profound as civil rights or feminism. All
over, I see an uprising fueled by courageous people, de-
manding that their spiritual and intuitive voices be honored
in the healing process. Attitudes are shifting. I meet medical
practitioners and patients everywhere who rail against the
icy sterility of technological advances alone-no matter how
miraculous-when simple kindness, love, and awe for our in-
ner vision is sacrificed.
As a psychiatrist and practicing intuitive, my passion has
been to bring spirituality and intuition into mainstream med-
icine. Then we can choose from the best of both worlds. A
palpable connection with a compassionate higher power
(whether or not connected with traditional religious beliefs)
can help us heal. Intuition is the spiritual language that links
us with our hearts, and thus to wellness. My book, Dr. Judith
Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing, (Times Books), provides
concrete tools for everyone to access their inner voice and
truest sense of the spiritual. There is a conscious strategy we
can take to be joyous and well. It is essential that we devel-
op positive beliefs about healing in addition to a love for the
body, an appreciation of the body's subtle energy system
(Chinese medical practitioners call it "chi"), and also learn to
access inner guidance and listen to dreams. With these
tools, we can maintain optimal health or better face
any health challenges that arise.
Science and spirituality mix. Over two hundred scien-
tific studies have shown that spirituality is good for
your health. In 1995 the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical
Center found that a major predictor of survival for
heart surgery patients was religious faith. A National
Institute on Aging study found that geriatric patients
were physically healthier and less depressed when
they attended regular spiritual services. Research un-
derscores the necessity of not waiting until illness or
pain comes to draw on spirituality as a resource for health
and healing.
Is there a center in our brain for spiritual experience? Scien-
tists currently associate our spiritual center with a part of
the brain called the limbic system. When this area is electri-
cally stimulated, some patients report visions of angels or
devils. And brain tumors, which overexcite the limbic sys-
tem, can trigger enhanced spiritual awareness. What scien-
tists are willing to conclude is that the brain and spirituality
are interrelated; if you develop a belief in something greater
than yourself, you'll have a better chance of staying healthy
longer and healing faster if you become ill.
As a physician, I have a continual sense of awe for the rela-
tionship between body and spirit. As your heart opens, so
does your intuition. Your intuition will teach you how to see
and how to love. It will instill in you a renewed faith to face
anything.
