Unit 51

Research
For the research part of this task I read a
lot of magazines of a similar genre and
target audience of the magazine I was
planning to do. I looked at magazine’s
such as Q and NME to see what type of
content, pictures, colours etc. are used in
these types of magazines. I based my
research on the front cover, contents
page and double page spread.
After reading and doing research on both
magazines I decided to base mine ore like
NME as it is less formal and aimed more to a
target audience that I am part of so I
thought it’d be easier to do work on that
basis as I could just add content that would
interest me personally.
I then had to research the different parts
and components of a magazine. I had to
learn what was on every magazine
cover, contents page and double page
spread to make sure my magazine had all
these components and it looked more
professional.
Pre - Production
For pre – production work I had to write
an article for a double page spread and
take some pictures for my magazine.
I then chose the three final pictures I
wanted for my cover, contents page and
double page spread and edited them
with photoshop
Cover Photo
Contents Page
Double Page Spread
Production
I then had to put all my pages together
using Illustrator and Photoshop
Front cover
What went well – I think that the main
image is good and it looks like a
professional magazine shoot.
What I would change – I would change
the editing so that the background was
all white and no curtain showing. I would
also change the colour of the coverlines
font as they aren’t very visable
Contents Page
What went well – I think it has a good
layout and all the alignments are
consistent therefore it looks more
professional.
What I would change – I would probably
change the subscribe box so it is the same
size as the pictures next to it.
Double Page
Spread
What went well – I think the layout is really
good and looks like a professional article
and the content is also very good.
What I would change – I would retake the
main image so that all the band members
heads are in a straight line.
