Honesty Activity
Story & Discussion
Year 1 Alpacas have been learning about the value of honesty. We read the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. We used specific vocabulary (honesty, truth, lies, lying) to discuss the themes and express our ideas. They talked about how people find it hard to trust people who have lied in the past and struggle to know when they are telling the truth and when to believe them or not.
Hot-seating
They wrote a wide range of questions to ask the boy from the story and four pupils took turns in the ‘hot-seat’, role-playing the boy and responding to the questions using our knowledge of the story and our imagination.
Perseverance in Physical Education
Discussed meaning of perseverance and agreed that it meant, not giving up.
The pupils took part in the activity of shooting basketball hoops and encouraged each other to persevere. They used the mantra ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again’.
They played the pop group Rudimental – Not giving in song for motivation during activity!
Cooperation, Perseverance & Respect
The pupils took part in a maths ‘scavenger hunt’. They had to work cooperatively in teams to gather as many target items and answer as many questions as they could in the time.
Parents and carers also were invited to come to school and participate in the morning’s activities.
The teams which persevered were the most successful in their mission!

There was once a king who was just and kind and honest. He ruled his land fairly. The kingdom was peaceful, prosperous and happy.
Listen carefully so that you understand what people are saying. Share your things with others.
Take turns when more than one person wants to do the same thing. Compromise when you have a serious conflict. Do your best. Encourage people to do their best.
Make people feel that what they are doing is important. Working together is a lot more fun that way. Thank people for the part they are playing.
