This fall season is shaping up to be an active one
with activities to suit just about any member. In
October we have the Jackie Cooper 4 in 1
spectacular at their new Mercedes Benz and
Porsche showrooms. Also, on tap is a driving tour
to the Marlon Mansion in Ponca City and to the
Woolaroc museum.
November kicks off with a fall leaf tour along the
Talimena Trail in southeast Oklahoma. Our
monthly gathering is at Siegi’s Sausage factory and
is always well attended. Make sure you come for the fine food, fellowship, and
our 2019 year in review video.
In December we keep on driving along with the Cimarron chapter of the Porsche
Club of America in the Marine Corp Toys for Tots fun drive. Please bring an
unwrapped toy(s) to the run. We end the drive at noon at the Jackie Cooper
Mercedes showroom with a catered Chili luncheon.
Our Christmas party is scheduled for Thursday December 12 at Freddie’s
Steakhouse Banquet center. This is always a fun evening with the ever popular
“white elephant” gift exchange and food drive for the Broken Arrow Neighbors
food pantry.
Your officers and board will be planning our 2020 activities calendar at their Q4
meeting in early November. I’m sure they have lots of ideas for activities
centered around your Mercedes Benz driving and social experience.
Recently, I learned that our section finished 3’rd in the 2018 Section of the Year
award. With only 80 members in Eastern Oklahoma, we are one of the smallest
sections in the nation. However, we hold our own and our participation
percentage is very high compared to other sections in the region and the entire
country. We are a great section and I personally want to make sure you get the
most from your MBCA membership.
Here’s to a strong finish in 2019 and an even better 2020. Feel free to contact me
with thoughts or suggestions.

Sixteen
members
displayed nine
cars at the
annual South Tulsa Baptist Car Show and Food
Drive on Sunday September 15, 2019. The section was well prepared for the hot
afternoon with ice water and a Mercedes Benz Club of America 10x10 pop up
shelter. Almost 500 cars participated and
hundreds of pounds of food was donated
by the enthusiastic car owners. A lunch
was prepared for all the drivers consisting
of jumbo hot dogs and hamburgers with
all the fixings, bagged snacks, cold
drinks, and desserts baked by members of
the church congregation.
New membership chairman John
Ferrante was able to secure two new
members at our display of coupes,
convertibles, and sedans. In addition,
new member Susan Hoog drove up from
Muskogee Ok to display her award
winning 1981 380SL.

4 in 1 a spectacular evening
Twenty-six Eastern Oklahoma members and
guests attended the Jackie Cooper 4 in 1
spectacular event on Thursday evening October
17, 2019. This night was special to all in
Eastern Oklahoma as Greg Kach and the Jackie
Cooper imports family dedicated the new
Porsche showroom, the new Porsche 911
(model 992), dedicated the new Mercedes Benz
showroom, and the launch of the 2020
Mercedes Benz GLS SUV. Father Gary Kastl
blessed each showroom and the employees
with a dedication prayer.
The well attended celebration included many
specialty beverages, delicious hot and cold hors
d’oeuvres, live music by the Full Flava Kings,
Andy Warhol inspired portrait artists and
complimentary valet parking for all invited
guests. Porsche and Mercedes Benz owners
mingled in the luxuriously appointed new
showrooms complete with the latest in
technology and customer service experience
lounges. Each showroom took seven months
to complete in which there were several
shuffles of offices and brand spaces.
Dealer Principal Greg Kach received a beautiful
limited-edition Mercedes Benz McLaren Stirling
Moss sculpture from Mercedes Benz North
America Sales Operations Manager Gerald
Lemmon.
Jackie Cooper Mercedes Benz has been serving
the eastern Oklahoma community for 28 years.
MBCA wishes the Jackie Cooper Mercedes
family continued success as the franchise
continues to establish sales and service records.

On Saturday October 12, twenty-one members of the Eastern Oklahoma section drove to Ponca City to
see the home of E.W. Marland. The Marland story is fascinating and his home is an architectural
wonder. It was designed and constructed as a showplace for pieces of fine art and in the process, it
became a masterpiece.
E.W. Marland was born May 8, 1874 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He studied to be an attorney, graduating from University of Michigan Law School at the age of nineteen. Marland’s years in a law firm led him to an interest in geology and a career in the oil industry. He prospered in the oil business, making his first fortune in the oil fields of West Virginia, only to lose it all in the panic of 1907. In 1908, Marland came to Oklahoma with not much more than belief in himself and a letter of credit. Mr. and Mrs. Marland made their home at the Arcade Hotel, and E.W. set out to explore for oil.
The first gusher of Oklahoma oil came in for Marland in 1911, on land he had leased from a Ponca Indian. Soon after, he discovered two more wells and then it seemed he found oil everywhere he looked. By 1922, E.W. Marland controlled one tenth of the world’s oil reserves, and more than a third of the city’s population were employed by Marland Oil Company.
The exploration and production activities of Marland Oil extended into Texas, Colorado, California, Mexico, Central America and South America. The sign of the red triangle became familiar in America and became known abroad. In October 1928, E.W. resigned as president and chairman of the board of Marland Oil Company and began a career in politics. Marland Oil then merged with the Continental Oil Company, became known as .

Next stop on the tour was to drive to the Woolaroc
Museum and Wildlife Preserve. Hidden away in the
rugged Osage Hills, Woolaroc was the ranch retreat of
oilman Frank Phillips. It is now a 3,700-acre wildlife
preserve and world-class art museum. Will Rogers called
it “the most unique place in this country”.
One of our tour stops also included lunch at Danny’s BBQ
formerly the home of Head Country BBQ sauce. The
lunch really filled the spot with delicious pork ribs, beef
brisket, chicken, catfish and chili.
Special thanks to Ron and Jean Hardage served as our
tour directors and to our guide Shirley who served as a
great and informative guide at the Marlon Mansion.
