Tekkie Tax
2018 Campaign Summary
Introduction
Some of our biggest National Welfare Organisations in SA have
joined forces to conduct one BIG national fundraising campaign
called National Tekkie Tax Day. Together we represent more than
1 000 NGOs all over the country.
History
The first Tekkie Tax campaign took place in 2013 and R2.4 million was raised. Since its inception, the
campaign raised and astounding R30.5million. After the annual audit in October, all proceeds are
distributed to us by the end of November every year.
The project is supported by thousands of people, companies, NGOs & schools and we are thankful to each
one for joining in the fun. Thanks to them, this is quickly becoming the most significant national fundraising
campaign in SA.
How does it work?
1. Members of the public are asked to choose a Tekkie Tax sticker. There are five different stickers
available, each representing a beneficiary sector. Depending on where your heart lies, you can
choose which of the five sectors you would like to support and YES, you may choose more than one!
Animals Bring Hope Children Disability Education
2. Next step is to buy a pair of our funky Tekkie Tag shoelaces. On 25th
of May, you can dress up or
down (it really does not matter) but remember to wear your sticker and your tekkies funked-up in
their special new laces.
When is International Tekkie Tax Day?
The next International Tekkie Tax Day is on Friday, 25 May 2018.
WHERE can you get a sticker, Tekkie Tag shoelaces or publicity material?
2 | P a g e
• From any of us! There are nearly 300 participating non-profit organisations.
• ToysRUs / BabiesRUs
• Order from the Tekkie Tax website www.tekkietax.co.za
• Tekkie Tax will, for the first time, make digital vouchers for material available. On payment, you will
receive a voucher that can be redeemed at your closest participating NGO.
What does it cost?
A sticker alone is R10 and the Tekkie Tag shoelaces are R35 a packet (including your sticker and VAT)
What are the five SECTORS from which I can choose my sticker?
Animals
If you have never loved an animal, part of your soul remains un-awakened. We look out
for the homeless, helpless and voiceless furry friends, wild and domesticated.
Bring Hope
Being poor is extremely challenging - a daily struggle to survive that you cannot even
imagine. We care for older persons, HIV/AIDS patients, families and feed thousands of
people every day.
Children
Safeguarding children is our highest priority. We care for the needs of the little ones,
whether they are sick, hungry or simply needs love. Children might forget what you taught
them but they will always remember how you made them feel.
Disability
Persons with disabilities are no different from others. We work to ensure the dignity
and inclusion of persons with disabilities in mainstream society – the world of work,
sport, recreation, politics and all the things that make life worthwhile!
Education
Education is not only preparing for life; it is life itself. We have different target markets
in this sector: formal school education, adult education, information sharing &
awareness, and even education via sport. The NGOs in this sector also focus on creating
awareness, taking care of and supporting people with cancer via their extensive
education programs.

Who are the BENEFICIARIES in each sector?
The fact that so many welfare organisations across a variety of service delivery fields are working together
saves a lot of money and creates a fundraising platform for organisations that do not have the
infrastructure to organise a campaign of this magnitude.

What do you DO on National Tekkie Tax Day?
Wear your sticker/s as well as your tekkies with our funky Tekkie Tag shoelaces on Friday, 25 May 2018. If
possible, make your tekkies WORK that day and do some community service:
• Take the dogs at a shelter for a walk.
• Bring a special treat to the children that we take care of.
• Spoil the people in one of our old age homes to tea and cake.
• Take a bunch of carrots to the horses and donkeys we look after.
• Clean up your local park.
• Take the stairs instead of the lift, save electricity, celebrate your health and be thankful for the fact
that you CAN walk up the stairs.
WHY should you wear the Tekkie Tax sticker?
• Show that you have paid your “tax” and earned the right to wear your tekkies for the day!
• Support the cause close to your heart visibly.
• Join in the fun!
