THE GOD WHO IS ABOVE GENDER
When our image of God is limited by masculine
pronouns and images, then we have inadvertently
truncated our understanding of God. God is neither male
nor female, nor is God an androgynous beginning. God is
God. God is above gender. Nevertheless, in our theological
reflections our image of God needs to be challenged and
expanded. One way of expanding our understanding and
perception of God is to be more inclusive in the people of
God we choose to study. If our study of God’s people is
limited to male characters, then our perception of God will
be informed only by the masculine. On the other hand, if
our study of God’s people includes women, then we will be
able to perceive the feminine face of God.
Friday, Saturday and
Sunday: July 22, 23, and 24th are
the dates of our summer
Enrichment Weekend for all ages.
The weekend will focus on Mary
of Nazareth, the Blessed Virgin
Mary; Mary of Bethany, the
sister of Martha and Lazarus;
and Mary of Magdala or Mary
Magdalene, the first to announce
the resurrection. We remember
these three Marys and all the
people of the New Testament because of their relationship
with Jesus. But what was their relationship with Jesus?
How did the contours of their relations with Jesus differ
from their male counterparts? How was it the same?
Back to the God who is above gender. The scandal of
Christianity is the assertion that to know Jesus is to know
God. Jesus is the human face of God. We are finite
creature and God is infinite. However, if we open our
hearts and minds to how Jesus loved and interacted with
all people, we will glimpse the infinite God who is not
bound by gender, but only bound by love.
Faithfully,
Father Pat

On the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit
descended upon the disciples like flames
of fire...
Early in the service on May 8th, the
Trinity congregation was invited to wave red
streamers and join in the chanting of Veni
Sancte Spiritus (Come Holy Spirit).
We greatly appreciate our Liturgy
Committee, led by Juanita Sprague, for mak-
ing our Pentecost so meaningful. Special
thanks to our musicians
and those who waved
streamers from the aisles.

Congratulations to our graduates
Pentecost—Veni Sancte Spirtus
Sunday, May 1st, was a wonderful
Sunday in our Trinity family. Bishop White
visited as was our preacher and celebrant
and took part in the Healing Service. Almost
every spring, we have a visit from our Bishop
for confirmation, but this year, Father Pat
added a new dimension to the Bishop's visit.
Usually, members are confirmed or re-
ceived after a series of classes with Father
Pat. Many attended classes this spring, but
he is also offering a series of on-line classes
especially designed for those who affirmed
their faith on May 1st. (Please note, all
members are invited to participate inTrinity
Cafe Online. Check our website for more in-
formation.)
Along with present-
ing many to be confirmed
and received, Father Pat
invited anyone in the con-
gregation who wished to
be reaffirmed to come for-
ward. The response was
inspirational.
On Sunday, May 29th, Trinity recognized those in our par-
ish who are graduating from high school this spring as Fa-
ther Pat presented them wih a small gift. Those present
were Cora Sprague and Matt Wedding. Also graduating
this spring are Txominia Young, Sierra Brumley, Kayla
Guthrie and Andrew Watson.
Congratulations, Trinity graduates!

Adult Sunday School will return in the fall
Summer Enrichment Weekend
Trinity Café—more menu opportunities
Ralph Barany shares that, beginning in
the fall, he will continue the Adult Sunday School
class at 9:00AM. The class topics will follow the
Eucharist Lectionary, allowing for discussion and
greater understanding of the scripture Father
Pat uses in the service on that particular Sunday.
The Lectionary is a table of appointed
scripture readings for the Eucharist and for the
daily office throughout the year. The Eucharist
lectionary provided in the 1979 Book of Common
Prayer provides for reading a substantial amount
of the Old Testament and almost all of the New
Testament over a three-year cycle.
Offering the Daily Prayer of the community at Northumbria in the UK, it is simple, brief, and easy to
use, with a Celtic feel.

Please tell your friends and join us for our
3rd annual Summer Enrichment Weekend (a
new kind of VBS). Led by our Education Chair,
Cheryl Parker, this year we have chosen to study
three Marys of Scripture. Mary, the mother of
Jesus, will take us to the birth of Christ. Sort of
a “Christmas in July” lesson.
Learning more about the Mary of “Mary
and Martha” will help us go deeper into the min-
istry of Jesus and studying Mary Magdalen will
take us to the heartbreak of crucifixion and the
joy of the resurrection. Yes, we will study
“Easter in July.”
We are fortunate to have multiple teach-
ers. Vicki Meacham is coordinating the Elemen-
tary Classes, with assistance from Romane
Outerbridge. Father Pat will be leading the mid-
dle and high school age classes, ably assisted by
Barb Tipmore.
Our Adult class is so fortunate to be
taught by a guest to Trinity, Sr. Cheryl Clemons
from Brescia. Sr. Cheryl is an expert on this top-
ic and we look forward to learning from her.
Kevin Brown, our Fellowship Guild
Chair, is coordinating the food: a full meal on Fri-
day evening, a light breakfast and snacks on Sat-
urday. Babysitting will be provided.
Contact the church if you have any ques-
tions.

Outreach Ministries
Congratulations, Larry!
“Spring Forward” thank you! (by LeDonna Rae)
Help Office Needs Help!
Mission Statement
St. Benedict Joseph Emergency Homeless
Shelter is a temporary refuge for the homeless
persons in our community. We provide our
guests with a safe, non-judgmental, warm place
to sleep, take a shower, eat, and wash personal
laundry in a Christian atmosphere.
Feeding St. Benedict’s
Our 2016 Spring Forward Campaign officially ended the
end of May with more than $10,200 given or pledged. Thank you
to all who have expressed their love of Christ in this very real and
tangible manner.
Your Outreach Committee does not take your trust for
granted, working hard to make sure your money is spent in areas
that make the greatest impact and change lives. To date in 2016,
funds have been allocated as follows:
Other agencies that will be helped in 2016 include St. Benedict’s Shelter and Habitat for Hu-
manity as well as funding for individuals’ utility relief.
Please feel free to talk to any Outreach Committee member if you have a question or suggestion
about how we can better serve our community. Also, please consider joining us in our mission to take
the love of Christ outside of our Trinity walls.
The Help Office of Owensboro, INC., is
asking for their pantry items. With children out
of school, the summer months are very challeng-
ing for the Help Office. They experience a major
increase in requests from adults and families,
providing the equivalent of 25,000 meals from
mid-May until mid-August.
Particular needs are Canned Fruits,
Baked Beans, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Cereal,
Sugar and personal hygiene items
(Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Razors, Deodor-
ant, Shampoo and Soap).
Trinity’s Outreach Committee will meet
soon to discuss monetary assistance, but ask you
to consider bringing one or more of the mentioned
items to be taken to the Help Office. Simply
place your donated item in the alcove off the Par-
ish Hall (next to the refrigerator).
Thank you in advance for your outpouring
of God’s love in this manner!
Loads of Love $1000
World Vision $840
Matthew 25 $1050
Oasis Shelter $660
Help Office $1000
Trinity has two groups of members and
friends that prepare and serve meals at St. Bene-
dicts Shelter, led by Donna Wilson and Norma
Beck. Their teams provide healthy meals to more
than 60 men each month. This is a big job. If
you are interested in helping, please talk to Don-
na or Nancy.
Also, St. Benedicts needs volunteers to
assist in other ways. If your heart is leading you
to help, talk to George Worley. He will guide you
on how you can serve Christ at St. Benedict’s.
Fourteen Trinity parishioners traveled to
Louisville on June 1st to be a part of Larry
Courtney’s ordination into the Diaconate Minis-
try. Larry was an intern at Trinity during his
training and was instrumental in developing the
Matthew 25 Support group as well as other out-
reach ministries.
Congratulations, Larry, on your ordina-
tion. You have a true heart for service and minis-
try and will do great things to build the Kingdom
of God. No matter where you are assigned, you
will always be in the heart of Trinity.

a music reader (it sure helps though!) but being
able to hold a note and a tune is quite important.
If anyone ever needs help, I’m always glad to as-
sist at your convenience. I will be away for a
week or so in July to attend the Sewanee Music
Conference in Monteagle, Tennessee at the Uni-
versity of the South. Barbara Hanselman will be
filling in for me ‘on the bench’ on Sunday, July
17th. Thanks, Barbara!
Have a great season and be safe everyone! As
always…..I look forward to seeing and hearing
you all each Sunday.

HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE!
The Summer season is officially upon us,
and if I’m reading my thermometer correctly, it
sure feels like it! While you travel and relax, if
you happen to worship at another church, please
bring me a bulletin. It’s always nice to see how
other folks are ‘doing worship’.
Speaking of worship, you will notice dur-
ing July and August that our faithful and dedi-
cated choristers are taking a well-deserved break.
In July we will hear all sorts of gems for the Or-
gan and August will bring us music from some of
our talented folks here at church.
Also, during these weeks ahead we will
once again be highlighting YOUR FAVORITE
HYMN during worship! We may use them any-
where in the service, so use your imagination.
Our official hymnal choices are The Hymnal
1982, Lift Every Voice and Sing and Wonder,
Love and Praise. Each of these sources cover a
wide majority of tunes and texts from many de-
nominations and traditions so there is something
for all to hear and sing. You can page through
your hymnal here at church or go online to see
your choices. You are a great singing people here
at Trinity, so let’s raise the roof! Selections can be
deposited in the box located in the Parish Hall.
Choir will resume on Wednesday, August
31st (time TBA). If you have been in this talented
and faithful group in the past, please consider a
return to the fold! We have great conversation,
convivial comradery and we hit the music hard –
not just note learning but history, technique and
ensemble singing. Of course you don’t have to be

Year-to-date financial information: With
41.67% of the year completed, we have 43.2% of
our operating income in and have spent 41.11% of
our operating expenses. Therefore, we are where
we should be financially at the end of May.
At the May meeting, Doug Webster, II was
elected to the Vestry, to fill the vacancy left at
Ryan Lloyd’s resignation.
Our chapel has a fresh coat of paint and
has been spruced up. Thank you, Sheila and
Doug Webster, for your hard work and faithful-
ness.
Our sextons will be on vacation July
11th—18th. Please make a special effort to keep
our facility clean and tidy. Always, please make
sure cups, plates, etc. are picked up and cleaned
and/or tossed. We all must help deter the ants
and other critters.
Let’s all do our part to keep our church
secure. If you are one of the last to leave, make
sure all doors are locked and the light outside the
office entrance is left on.
The office will be closed on July 4th for the
Independence Day Holiday.
Michael Vollman will preach on July 3rd,
his final Sunday as our Deacon. The Bishop has
chosen to alter his ministry assignment and he
will be serving solely at Trinity, Russellville.
Michael Vollman has been a Deacon in our
parish for the past several years, preaching
monthly. As a professor of
nursing, he has been par-
ticularly effective in guid-
ing and training those pas-
toral care volunteers who
visit our members in the
hospital and our Eucharis-
tic visitors.
Thank you, Michael,
for your service in our par-
