PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGIES
1. Reconstruction: Most intrusive, most expensive, most time-
consuming Improves alignment issues, width, curves, humps,
cross section, etc. Usually requires total storm drainage system Replaces entire road structure, base and pavement
2. Reclamation: Grinds existing pavement into existing base Improves minor alignment issues Often involves minor drainage improvements Replaces entire pavement structure
PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGIES
3. Mill & Pave: Grinds off top pavement surface Maintains existing alignment Replaces tops on existing catch basins Replaces top course of pavement
4. Chip Seal Maintains entire pavement structure Adds asphalt seal coat embedded with stone
chips5. Crack Seal:
Maintains entire pavement structure Seals individual cracks with asphalt material
GRAVEL ROAD MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGIES
1. Re-grade Gravel: Most time-consuming, highest maintenance Highly susceptible to wash outs Dust issues Difficult to maintain in winter
2. Bituminous Base Course & Chip Seal Provides many benefits of paving while
retaining feel and appearance of gravel Support of Planning Commission & Land Use
