G7 World Kite Festival 2016 On Sunday May 22nd,
RESULTS Japan held our kite
festival at the “Tokyo Rinkai Disaster
Prevention Park”.
This event was held for the
hope and peace of those afflicted by
the Kumamoto earthquake in April
2016. The disaster killed 49 people
and injured about 3,000 people others
in total. More than 44,000 people
have been evacuated from their
homes due to the disaster .
Kumamoto prefecture’s symbol,
“Kumamon”, were printed onto the
kites, and were flown into the sky.
Embassy officials from seven
countries, including the Ambassador
extraordinary and plenipotentiary of
the Federal Democratic Republic of
Nepal, participated. Children enjoyed
flying kites as well.
On the other hand, in Mashiki, the
Kumamoto town that was near the
epicenter of the 2016 Kumamoto
earthquake, we held another Kite
festival.
In this event, International NGO
“ONE” , a campaigning and
advocacy organization of more than
seven million people around the
world taking action to end extreme
poverty and preventable disease,
particularly in Africa, partnered
with RESULTS Japan to co-
organize the kite-flying event in G7
countries. In the G7 Summit, our
mission for poverty eradication,
empowerment of women was
discussed.

The hugely popular “Kumamon” Kites
Japanese government officials, friends of RESULTS Japan, NGOs officials, parents and children and families organized
a BBQ in the park. Everyone enjoyed flying kites,while looking up at the sky, and wishing for the reconstruction of
Kumamoto, Children enjoyed making their “Kumamon” kites, as they drew their dreams and hopes for Kumamoto.

With 680 children, Kite-flying
in Nepal
In Saturday May 28th, RESULTS Japan staff
took off to Nepal to visit the Shree
Bhotenamlang Secondary School in
Bhotenamlang village of the Sindhupalchowk
district, located two to three mountains away
from Kathmandu. In the school, 650 child
study hard to fulfill their dreams and hopes.
The village was marked with many traces of
Nepal earthquake of last April.
The globally expanding Kite-flying
movement made their smiles so priceless.
Like the children in Tokyo and in Kumamoto,
children in Nepal liked “kumamon” kites.
They said,“we pray for those those afflicted by
the Kumamoto earthquake”

In 2011, Great East Japan Earthquake happened, Junior high school students live in Gaza fried kites in order to show solidarity to Japan. It was very impressed. I have heard that fried kites at the same time in Gaza and Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture. And relay on the Internet, in March this year. It is pleased to you visited Kamaishi and fried kites, that is great support for the disaster-stricken area Connecting througth the frying kites is big hope for people in disaster-strichen area. we appreciate the efforts to solve our refugee problem of UNRWA. We would like to continue to strengthen the relationship future as partners of human security and active pacifism. Thank you.
