Seattle Has UntaFeb.6 To Raise $$ BERKELEY. Calif. <AP> —

American League owners Wednesday gave Seattle interests nine more days to come up with the financing needed to keep the Pilots baseball club in Seattle.

The League then recessed its meeting until Feb. 6, at which time, said league president Joe Cronin, it hopes to be able to decide the future of the troubled franchise.

At two days of closed sessions in a Berkeley resort hotel, groups from Dallas - Fort Worth and Milwaukee had stood by, hoping to make presentations that would bring old team to their got to appear.

Cronin said, group indicated they were preparing the financial structure for a continuation of baseball in Seattle, and we have notified them we have recessed until a later date when they can inform us of the franchise conditions."

raise the money," and added of the general situation, "I think it has been eased."

Carlson is chairman of the board of Western International Hotels and a prime mover in attempting to keep the troubled franchise in Seattle.

A group headed by Cleveland businessman William Daley now owns the club.

Daley had indicated Tuesday that his organization was willing to sell for $9 million instead of the $10.3 million originally asked.

Carlson confirmed, however, that $5.5 million was needed almost immediately, and this was the stumbling block.

It includes $3.5 million to pay off a bank loan that becomes due as soon as the club is sold, and $2 million to operate during the 1970 season.

That's the money we've got to structure in a satisfactory way for the league and the Seattle Pilots," said Carlson.

• • • He indicated that the bank,

whose refusal to extend the loan has brought the situation to its present crisis proportions, might be willing to reconsider.

"The bank said, 'Bring us a proposal,' " Carlson reported.

He also said that Daley was likely to remain with the club as a partner.

Carlson also said a community ownership plan to run the club as a nonprofit organization, unique in major league baseball, was still under consideration.

This was the plan presented to the owners Tuesday by a group composesd of Carlson and Seattle and Washington state officials.

Cronin had said the proposal had been received without enthusiasm by the owners, but admitted that it is still "part of the package, but it is not the package."

"We feel the community ownership philosophy is a strong one," Carlson countered.
