time Shipping Carl Beldonhas rebutted reports that the

Vanuatu Immigration Depart-ment has re used to renew his

visa over discrepancies in own-ership and usage o the vesselsthat he brought in rom theSolomon Islands.

Daily Post can also confrmthat the Minister o Public Util-ities, Harry Iauko, has author-ised both o his vessels- MV Kaona and Christie Leigh tooperate in Vanuatu or a peri-od o fve years and that thereare no discrepancies over own-ership o the two ships re erredto.

Mr Beldon made headlinesin the Indy last weekend andin ormed Daily Post that on

April 1, 2011 Acting Ministero Internal A airs, MarcellinoPipite, reviewed the Principalimmigration O fcer’s decisionnot to renew his visa. Usingpowers con erred under chap-ter 7 Section 58 (5) (b) o Act,minister Pipite as acting minis-ter responsible or Immigration

granted Mr Beldon an interim visa or our months commenc-ing on April 1 which was lastFriday.

The minister’s decision wasbased on the act that thePrincipal Immigration O fcer(PIO) did not elaborate on thegrounds or his decision as pur-suant to the Act on his letter o cancellation o his extended

visa.In a letter dated March

28, 2011 to Mr Beldon which was cop ied to the Min is-ter, DG and 1st PA o Inter-nal A airs, Commissioner o Police,Commissioner o Labour,

Attorney General, VIPA CEO,Ports and Harbours PrincipalLicensing O fcer and customsDirector, the Principal Immi-gration O fcer, Francois Batick,stated that Mr Beldon came to

Vanuatu on 28 December 2010under an extended visitor visa.

This visa was subjected tothe Immigration Act (Cap 66)section 29 (1), that states thatan extended visitor’s visa canbe granted or a period o lessthan 12 months , but more

than 30 days.The PIO advised Mr Beldon

that he is in Vanuatu under anextended visitor’s visa and isdeemed to be illegally engaged

with illegal activities, addingthat the Australian Investor’scompany “Dream Time” is ille-gal.

PIO Batick stated that in

accordance with the Immi-gration Act section 47 (1)( )as visitor Beldon breachedthe conditions o his extend-ed visitor’s visa and cancelledit with e ect as o March 28and advised him to make every possible way to leave Vanuatuimmediately.

visa granted to Beldon remains valid on the grounds that hisdecision was baseless and with-out proo .
