IN OUT
Everyday Mathematics is our math program.
It emphasizes problem solving and number sense through practical applications.
The program is based on a “spiral curriculum” design. Therefore, the
program touches upon skills many times in many different ways.
Please read the family letter sent home prior to the beginning of each chapter.
Please save this for reference throughout the chapter.
Lunch
• Please pack nutritious foods
• Students should know their lunch numbers
• Students should keep their money in a wallet or
change purse
• Please put names on lunch boxes
Recess
• Students should be dressed appropriately for
the weather
• During the winter, make sure students have
labeled winter coats, gloves, hats, and scarves
•A child may miss recess due to homework and/or
class work not being completed
*If your child has received free/reduced lunch in the past, or if you are interested in free/reduced lunch for the current school year, please ask the office for a form. New forms need to be submitted each year.
*Visit www.mylunchmoney.com to register your child and manage his/her lunch account online.
DisciplineIf your child continuously breaks school
rules, a “pink slip” will be sent home
to notify you of the inappropriate
behavior.
*ART* Please send smocks in
as soon as possible if you have not already.
*LIBRARY* Please return the library books each
week.
*Physical Education* Please wear sneakers and pants or shorts on gym days. Please do not wear
jewelry on these days.
ScienceThe second grade will begin a new science curriculum this year titled “Plant Growth
and Development.” A second curriculum
titled “Changes” will be used later in the year. The students
will have an opportunity to learn
about science through exploration,
inquiry, and discovery with science kits and
experiments.
Scholastic News provides students
with a way to keep up with current events.
•Child’s Responsibility
•Parent’s Responsibility
PLEASE check homework each night and sign the homework
book after you have looked to see that the homework is completed.
Your child should read every night, even if it is not written in
the homework book. Math home links will be checked every day. Spelling packets will be collected
and checked on Fridays.
Absences• Due to recent state guidelines, a student is permitted
no more than 10 absences in the course of one school year, as mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
• Whenever your child is absent from school, an excuse note is required when he/she returns.
• Families have up to 3 school days to send in a note explaining their child’s absence in order for it to be counted as “excused.” Vacations will not be excused.
• If you are emailing an excuse note to your child’s teacher, please include the attendance clerk in your email. Her email address is [email protected].
FIELD TRIPS
The Parent Faculty Club is generous enough to pay admittance for field trips. Extra money is
occasionally needed to cover the cost of transportation.
We will have several field trips this year. You will receive further information well in
advance of the trip.
Trips in the making:
Dino Dig
Stages of Imagination
Animal Junction
As you leave, take a moment to see your child’s classroom.
Please sign the sign-in sheet in your child’s
classroom before leaving. Also, choose a time for parent-teacher
conferences in November.
