NEW DELHI, Apr 27:

Chris Morris' brilliant unbeat-en knock of 82 went in vain asGujarat Lions held their nerves topull off a thrilling one-run winover Delhi Daredevils in anIndian Premier League matchhere today.

Coming out to bat at a diffi-cult time when the Daredevilswere tottering at 57 for four in10.4 overs while chasing a chal-lenging 173, Morris played a sen-sational knock and struck sixes atwill to notch up his fifty in just 17balls, the fastest half century ofthe season.

Morris (82 not out off 32balls) shared 87 runs for the fifthwicket with country-mate JPDuminy (48 off 43 balls) to takeDaredevils on the brink of a winbefore experienced PraveenKumar and Dwayne Bravo pro-

duced brilliant final two overs torestrict Daredevils to 171 for five.

With Daredevils needing 18runs off the last two overs,Praveen gave away four runs inthe penultimate over beforeBravo held on to his nerves witha fine final over to seal the winfor Gujarat Lions and propel the

debutants to the top of the stand-ings with 10 points from sixgames.

Earlier, openers BrendonMcCullum and Dwayne Smithstruck explosive fifties beforeDaredevils bowlers pulled thingsback to some extent to restrictGujarat Lions to 172 for six.

McCullum (60 off 36 balls) andSmith (53 off 30) gave Gujarat ablazing start as the duo put on 112runs off just 64 balls for the openingstand after being invited to bat.

The way McCullum and Smithwere going at one stage, Gujaratwere well and truly on course to

post a 200 plus total but Delhibowlers, especially Imran Tahir(3/24) and Chris Morris (2/35),bowled brilliantly in the middleovers to keep the total under theirarms length.

Chasing a challenging 173 forwin, the Daredevils were off to ahorrible start, with right-arm

pacer Dhawal Kulkarni pickingup the first three wickets, two ofwhich came in one over, to reducethe hosts to 16 for three in fourovers.

While Sanju Samson got aleading edge and was caught by abackward running James Faulknerin the second over, Kulkarnireturned to dismiss Quinton deKock (5) and Karun Nair (9).Duminy and Risabh Pant (20) thentried to resurrect the Delhi inningswith a 40-run stand before the lat-ter was brilliantly caught byPraveen Kumar at deep offFaulkner's bowling.(PTI)
