Dear Parish Family, May is a time of transitions in our society. Many people graduate from school that month and it is also the time when many ordinations to the priesthood occur. If you have never attended an ordination, I invite and encourage you to consider coming to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception this Saturday, May 31st (at 10:00 AM), for the diaconate ordination of Chris Boutin and the priestly ordination of Marcin Dudziak. When witnessing an ordination you can feel the centuries of tradition that are embodied in the ceremony and you get a sense of the Apostolic Tradition of the Church as a bishop, ordained as a successor of the Apostles, passes on the priesthood to a man so that he can act in the Person of Christ in service to the Body of Christ, the Church! It is truly an amazing and grace-filled moment in the life of the Church. As I mentioned, May is also the month of most graduations. As stated in last week’s bulletin Tracy Krauss graduated from Auburn University on Saturday, May 9th. We also have four high school students who have recently graduated: Ava Kurtts, Emily Kaiser, Tyler Chandler and Tommy Worsley. Congratulations to each of them. (If I missed anyone, please let me know so that we can recognize them in next week’s bulletin.) Today we conclude the Easter Season with the feast of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is active in our midst as He has been through out the history of the Church. May He bless and guide all of our youth, those finished with their formal education, those who are preparing to attend college and those preparing to serve the Church through the sacrament of Holy Orders. May the Holy Spirit inspire us to use our gifts and talents to make the Kingdom of God more present in our lives and in our world! In Christ, our Risen Lord, Father James Dean

Men’s health is a family matter.
This is why St Bartholomew Catholic Church is hosting Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. The screenings provided focus on vascular disease, a leading cause of illness, death and disability among men.
Screenings are fast, painless and affordable. Three key tests check for blocked carotid arteries, an irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure, which are the three leading risk factors for stroke. Nearly 800,000 strokes will occur this year, taking a life approximately every four minutes.
Other tests check for abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women. Many events also offer blood tests, including cholesterol, glucose and c-reactive protein screenings, as well as take-home colon cancer early detection tests.
Screening packages start at $139. Single tests cost around $60.
By signing up for this health event, not only will you be able to receive $10 off any package of $149 or more, but St Bartholomew Catholic Church will also receive a $10 donation for every member who signs up and attends this Life Line Screening event. To schedule your appointment and to receive this special offer, please sign up on the sheet provided by St Bartholomew Catholic Church. Join in the fight against vascular disease!

St. Benedict School News….
The pace of learning never slows at Saint Benedict
Catholic School nor does working toward spiritual and
social growth. This last week included finals for middle
schooner's, improving reading and writing skills for
intermediate grades, and benchmark testing for all.
Preschoolers prepared for and presented their
graduation songs and skills, eighth graders celebrated
their last Mass at SBCS and officially became alumni, and
second graders had a commemorative Mass to observe
their year of spiritual growth and First Communion. In
addition to all this, 2015-2016 Peer Helpers learned how
to be strong supportive leaders through a day long
seminar reinforcing good decision making and positive
choices. “Ora et Labora” - we pray and work here at
SBCS!
We would like to wish good luck and farewell to Lilli
Donald, first grade teacher, Shannon Isek, second grade
teacher, Maria Hosmer, Spanish and Art instructor, and
Kim Murphy, PK teacher. All except Kim are moving out
of the area with their families to pursue new endeavors.
Kim will be spending more time with her growing, active
children. These ladies have been a blessing to SBCS. If
you know of anyone seeking a teaching position, please
have them contact the school (251) 986-8143.
The Scrip Program has a limited supply of shopping cards in stock, including Wal-Mart, Winn Dixie, Cracker Barrel and Starbucks. Get them before they are all gone!!!!!!
The parish office will be closed on Monday
May 25th in observance of Memorial Day.
Regular office hours will resume at 8:00 AM
on Tuesday, May 26th.. Remember all our the men And
women who gave heir lives in service of our country.
