Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental
Education Center (MCEEC) will host the 36th Annual Public
Maple Sugaring Day on Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
at the Meesing Sugarbush near Marshalls Creek.
See how sweet syrup is made during this exciting annual
event! The day includes a 90-minute tour of the Sugarbush with
stops for demonstrations and fun activities.
Learn about Native American and early pioneer methods of
making maple syrup, fi nd out how to identify and tap maple trees,
and watch as MCEEC educators explain the evaporator process!
After the tour, enjoy a sample of the pure maple syrup on some
freshly-made pancakes!
Admission costs $5 for adults and $3 for children under
12. Maple tree sponsors and EE Center members attend free of
charge. The Meesing Sugarbush is located in the Delaware State
Forest north of Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania. For details and

will host the 16th Annual Winter Carnival Day on Sunday, February 24.

Lake Region Cook-OffHeats Up the Poconos The Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce will host
the 11th Annual Chili/Wing Cook-Off on Sunday, March 3 at
Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort on Lake Wallenpaupack.
All are welcome to sample a variety of chicken wings and
chili selections from area chefs, cooks and restaurants. The event
begins at noon, and doors will remain open with food available until 3 p.m.
The Wallenpaupack Area School District administrators will serve as the event’s offi cial judges, with
guests selecting the top recipes in the “People’s Choice” category. First prize winners for chili and wing
recipes will receive $100 cash and a commemorative
trophy.
Admission costs $20 for the public. Tickets may

Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), a project of the National
Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology,

Monday, February 18.
Birdwatchers of all ages and experience levels are
welcome to serve in this global citizen science project.
Counts can take place anywhere! Simply count wild
birds for at least 15 minutes on any day of the event,
