Grow your BUSINESSWhy Merchandising Matters To Build Brand and Attract CustomersShoppers have easy access to product information, online options, and an increasing choice of competitors. They are
selective and only decide to purchase when they get a unique, well-planned, engaging retail experience. If merchandising
execution is messy or inconsistent, if information doesn’t match what they found online, or if their shopping trip leaves
them with a bad taste in their mouth, they won’t come back!
Merchandising consists of product display, pricing, store layout, signage, promotional events and all manner of other
sales-driving techniques aimed at raising the profile and the profits of your small retail business. Bright signage and a
well-kept retail structure are all factors that help shoppers to determine whether or not they are going to stay or leave.
What happens once you get them inside your store is up to your interior merchandising, product line and pricing.
Here are 4 benefits of investing in your retail merchandising:
Pricing, displays, product
packaging and arrangement, sale
signs and promotional marketing
can all drive sales upward while
improving the shopping experience
for your customers.
1. Increased SalesOnce the bar has been set, allowing
it to fall would negatively
affect your sales and
shrink your customer base.
Always have your customers
shopping experience in mind and
get creative!.
3. Once is Not Enough
Interior spaces should flow more
easily while directing the consumer
to important sale items and
significant displays. Create an
environment that can handle more
people, more efficiently and makes
the overall shopping experience
less of a chore.
2. Changing Spaces
By providing high value and pairing
products with the appropriate
assortments, you entice your
customers to return. Part of
merchandising is the awareness of
when demand for one product ends
and demand for another begins.
4. Customer Loyalty

Australia’s best young locksmith award 2016Second finalistNathan Marks QLDToowoomba Locksmiths
10 years as a locksmith
I first started my work in the locksmith trade at age 17
in 2006. I took on a locksmith apprenticeship under
Rod Lothian at Toowoomba Locksmiths. I completed
my apprenticeship after 3.5yrs in 2010.
After completing my apprenticeship I competed in the
apprentice of the year competition, which doubled as
the MLA test. I completed this test, proving proficiency
in master keying and practical locksmithing to a master
locksmith level and achieved the highest points scored
for QLD. I purchased Toowoomba Locksmiths from my
former employer in November 2011 and now have 2
tradesmen and 1 apprentice, and look to expand my
business wherever possible.
What do you most enjoy about your work as a locksmith?
Coming to work each day and working hard to grow my
business as much as possible is quite a satisfying
feeling; working towards my goals. Getting challenging
work like safe manipulation/ drilling and working with
different customers everyday makes for an
interesting job.
The jobs where there are no manuals or set instructions
are what I enjoy the most. However the day to day
routine jobs are always different so there is never much
boredom and challenging myself is always rewarding.
What key issues do you think will affect the Locksmith industry in the coming decade and how do you think these should be approached?
I feel all domestic, commercial, and automotive locking
systems are all going electronic. I think the best thing
we can do as locksmiths is keep up with the times and
train in the necessary fields to familiarise ourselves with
any and all new locking systems as they come up, and
to equip ourselves with the technology needed to get
the job done. This is where a great network between
locksmiths can be used (e.g. LGA or MLA) to give
opinions and inform our fellow locksmiths on any new
techniques or products.
How do you keep current with professional developments in the field?
Keeping up to date with changes and development in
the industry is essential for giving your customers the
best service and product possible. I attend as many
LGA and MLA meetings, and information nights as
possible. Although when that isn't possible, the forums
on their websites and friends within the trade are always
there for a bit of help.
Tell us why you should be Australia’s best young locksmith.
I have always aspired to achieve my dreams, and
owning and operation my own business has always
been one of them. I am proud to have taken over an
established business at such a young age of 23. I feel
there is still plenty left to learn, however am proud to
have come as far as I have. Becoming a MLA master
locksmith, some of my safe gain entries and access
control jobs are among achievements of mine.

SEPTEMBER SAVERSAVE ON FUTURA
silca trp software100% freeOwners of Silca RW4 / RW4+ devices receive a free
transponder image generation program which allows
users to convert blank, base transponders into the
correct identification to suit most immobiliser
specifications. With a proven 100% success rate, this
Silca solution saves you time and money by allowing
a stock level of only four or five transponders which
may be converted into THIRTY ONE different
transponder identifications.
Recent updates include support for VW, Audi and
Skoda ID48 CAN configurations and the flexibility to
use either an original or reliable GTI transponder for
many of the functions. GTI support has become
significantly important regarding Ford/Mazda ID63
generation, because it’s impossible to convert an
original transponder and the world supply of this
configuration has become relatively scarce.
The TRP software is a component of the Silca
WinTransfer software which is available for free from
the LSC website.

MEMORY LANETHE HISTORY OF KEVRON
EDITION 6, 1926 - 2016
A true Australian brand.
memory lane
Kevron warehouse, early 1970’s
RRRRR
Kevron is a true Australian brand, and you’d be surprised to know how well known it is overseas these days, with exports to over 40 countries, and with a sales office in Europe to support their expansion.
It all started in 1952 in the inner Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds. In those days, Moonee Ponds was a gritty suburb, full of small manufacturing operations covering all kinds of industry. It certainly wasn’t seen as a good place to live.
Ernie Chambers was an aircraft engineer, and he named the company after his sons Kevin (who joined the company in 1966) and Ron (who joined in 1975). By the middle 1970’s Kevron was very successful locally, and was supplying tags to the RACV, and to Qantas and Ansett, and to lots of travel agents including Jetset Tours and Harvey World Travel. Even South African Airways were a customer for a while. Most Victorians, and many Australians would remember the ID tag that the automotive clubs would supply every year.
Today Kevron is still located in Melbourne, but has moved to bigger premises at Campbellfield. Production capacity is around 65,000 tags per day – that’s a lot of tags!
LSC is proud to support a true “Made in Australia” iconic brand like Kevron, and we encourage you to support it too – the quality and range cannot be beaten.

access control solutionsICT Adds Class 5 Compliance to the ListICT has added compliance to AS/NZS2201.1 Class 5 to the list of standards on an already impressive portfolio.
AS/NZS2201 is a series of standards that include
a number of mandatory, optional and
recommended specifications for the design and
installation of intruder alarm and alarm
transmission systems. These standards allow
alarm systems to be classified and tested to
ensure they meet the requirements, with Class 1
considered the lowest reliable alarm system and
Class 5 the highest.
Class 5 allows more scope under the Australian
governments risk assessment process, Protective
Security Policy Framework, (PSPF) and New
Zealand’s Protective Security Requirements,
(PSR).
How it works:A Protege Single Input Expander (PRT-ZX1 module) is
wired to each of the external devices onsite including
motion sensors, smoke detectors and door contacts,
and attached to the Protege module network. If any of
the devices are activated, the ZX1 transfers that
information to the Protege Controller using ICT’s
proprietary RS-485 AES encrypted module
communications technology.
The Controller transmits alarms offsite using ICT’s
ArmorIP protocol, one of only a few reporting protocols
to have NIST certified encryption and side channel
intrusion detection for communications.
With fully encrypted communication all the way from
external sensor right to the offsite monitoring station,
organisations and government agencies that previously
had to install a more costly SCEC Type 1/1A system to
meet their stringent security requirements, now have an
alternative solution to consider, and one that’s a lot
more appealing to the budget!

Once logged onto the LSC website, registered users

“Over the years we’ve used many suppliers for our
transponder keys and remotes. Getting accurate and reliable information, and quality technical support has
often been a headache, so recently we’ve made a
decision to exclusively source transponder keys, chips
and remotes from LSC. If it’s not on CarLab, we no
longer touch it, we were just wasting too much time
with poor quality product and inaccurate information.
CarLab has made it easier, less time consuming, and
much less stressful for us.”
