aafter graduating from high school in 1981, grace Johnson of seattle was looking for adventure. That summer she joined a three-month guided adventure cycling tour along the Transamerica Trail where she met fellow rider paul Jeurissen of the netherlands. after marrying 10 years later, they took a six-month honeymoon ride through india, Thailand, and across the american West, where they passed through missoula, montana, and had
their portaits taken by adventure cycling’s greg siple (below). in the almost 20 years since, their velo-adventures have continued while paul has turned his attention to the study of photography. Of his work he says, “i try to visualize the feeling of traveling by bicycle — the unexpected adventures, contact with other cultures, and cycling through monumental scenery.” He also, apparently, almost always visualizes his favorite subject in the color red. To see more of paul’s striking and elegant imagery, including galleries and stories from his fateful 1981 Transam tour, visit www.projection3.com.
