A school with a view…
The Second Chance School of Ioannina is a public school founded in 2003 and managed by the General Secretariat for Lifelong Learning which is the executive authority for Lifelong Learning in Greece. It addresses adults who have not completed their 9-year-old compulsory education and aims at offering them a second chance for the acquisition of a study certificate. It is co-funded by the Greek Ministry of Education and the European Union.
Our objectives are to offer adults the chance to:
- complete their initial 9-year-old compulsory education- be connected with systems of education and training- acquire up-to-date knowledge and skills- strengthen their personality by enhancing their self-esteem and self-confidence- get more easily integrated in the labour market or improve their position at work.
Our philosophy and syllabus
Our school has a flexible and innovative syllabus in order to exploit to the fullest extent all knowledge already available in the classroom. In our school we have adopted an action-oriented philosophy and a cross-curricular approach. Thus, we promote experiential learning and cooperative learning.

Students have the chance to develop their skills in the Greek language, mathematics, physical science, environmental education, social sciences, art, with a special emphasis on the English language as well as Information and Communication Technologies.Furthermore, our school students are supported by a psychologist and a career counselor.
